Bristol: General Airport News, Updates & Discussion

Bah, I thought the airport might've been teasing the return of the Munich route, but looks like it's just their PR people being a bit clueless 🙄

I wonder why Germany is never successful from Bristol ? Can’t seem to keep them even when they appear to do well

German routes seem to be difficult to come by at many UK airports and low cost operators tend to prefer to avoid German routes.

Very interesting plans. Surprised by the runway extension - thought that idea had long past - I remember plans way back when Les Wilson was at the helm - it’s a modest extension nothing too drastic , no use of the common etc .

The previous documents stated no runway extension was nesecary. I wonder what made them change their mind?

I can only think there must be at least one interested airline
Its a lot of expense though for one airline. And its something that could take years to achieve assuming they're allowed to do it at all.

As someone who works in the aviation industry on the operational side let me assure you a runway extension is good for all airlines as it gives them better performance options so less wear and tear on the engines is more fuel efficient so lowers emissions.

What a load of twaddle! Mr Peretz is going for the old adage of bulls**t baffles brains!! If my local mall got £71.50 off the government for every person walking in the door and they spent £30 in a shop it’s the shop not the mall getting the cash and the original £71.50 is still there!! Another point is there’s no guarantee everyone is buying anything so that’s an assumption!!
Another old adage comes to mind that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink!!

Its not £71.50 for everyone walking through the door though especially as at least half of the money is ear marked for development of things like MRO on the non passenger side of the business.
The Welsh government main argument is that the investment is economic and focused on economic growth that will benefit Wales.

Do people here believe that Cardiff Airport continued operation holds back Bristol Airport in some way?

Of course there are people who think CWL is a threat. If you give someone an inch they’ll take a mile. You need to take off the rose tinted glasses. It doesn’t make any difference whether the subsidy is £71.50 or 50p it’s just wrong and should be stopped. CWL is an ailing company and being propped up by the taxpayers cash is not the answer. It’s a vanity project pure and simple. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it’s probably a duck!!!

A project that supports 1600 onsite jobs and Wales only international airport and it's surely within Wales own government's right to support that airport if chooses to and develop the site economically? Which ironically could actually be beneficial for Bristol as the more better paid jobs people in Wales have and the more wealthier the country is the more likely people will go on holiday or travel for business.
The Welsh government isn't going to let Cardiff close and even if it did sell it it's likely any private owner would require public money and there'll always be the threat of them closing it. It sees Cardiff as a national asset.

Of course there are people who think CWL is a threat.
But the evidence doesn't point to it being a threat. Passenger numbers wise Bristol has continued to grow and will continue to. Cardiff isn't going to stop that even if it gets to 1.4 million passengers in the next 10 years. It's quite probable Bristol will be well over 12 million by then.
If you look at the MRO and cargo side of the operation that's something Bristol doesn’t have and hasn't come out with any plans that it has them in development.

I'd also ask the question what happens if Bristol appeal is successful? If it gets the package stopped and Cardiff declared as considered insolvent what then? Because I don't see the Welsh government just then walking away. It's likely they or the new government after May will just come up with a new package.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
