Today Costa Coffee have made their presence felt. They have set up a tacky looking outdoor seating area with tables and chairs enclosed within a branded (large sign) area. It looks quite down market as the seating area is right next to the footpath that borders the barriers (vertical lifting and coned bollards that sink into the ground). Where all the car park buses, staff buses are parked.

this is certainly not in keeping with the image that the airport wants to portray, that of a modern forward looking airport. I just dont like the look of this thing.

It's not just Bristol, Costa and Cafe Nero have similar set ups outside the terminals at BHX with cheap looking chairs and tables and flimsy barriers. I assume they are aimed at smokers as they seem to be the only ones that frequent the areas.

I suspect it has been instigated by the Bristol airport authority rather than Costa Coffee which will no doubt be a franchise operated by airports service partners. LBA introduced similar tac outside the terminal there a good 12 to 18 months ago. It's still there so I expect it must be worth it's while with smokers in particular despite it not looking very good.

Flight Informations Systems are not updating on the airport website. They moved to a new system last night and this has resulted in a bug on the web page. Or maybe they plain forgot to link it to the website.

nothing would suprise me these days with whats done or not done.
give them the benefit of the doubt thyat a glitch in the system.
seperate note.
be nice to see the airport stands back and updated to see which aircrafts are parked. it misses that site. no doubt a lot of other ppl do as well.

IS M&S coming airside? Rumours abound but has anyone seen anything announced?

Few changes to the outdoor airside area at departures are rumoured

1. No big umberellas. Possible risk of being blown away by wind and damage aircraft
2. No smoking allowed. Thats going to be a big disappoinrment
3. No glass allowed. That will take some enforcement. Will they give plastic mugs to get around the no glass rule?

These are big changes from what was proposed as a recreational outdoor area for departing passengers

It will be a disappointment for the smokers but I can understand the reasons for doing it. I think the majority of passengers will just be please to be able to go outside for some fresh air before they fly, especially if their flight's delayed for whatever reason.

The metal footbridge over the A38 is scheduled for demolition between 7 pm and 7 am on 21 March. Get your final photos crossing that footbridge before it is gone forever.

Are there no photos floating about of the terminal work going on there, I'd be really interest to see how it's progressing?

A38 Footbridge by kraktoa, hosted on Forums4airports.com

The only footsteps on that Bridge were people getting to the top to place birthday greetings. But a landmark outside the airport is due to go on 21 March. It will make way for much needed traffic lights.

Will get some in the weekend.

Have tried uploading some pics on the photo gallery. Is it there?

Had to take it from inside the bus as not tall enough to reach camera over the hedges or other fencing

The footbridge was indeed demolished overnight. A photo of A38 sans the footbridge has been uploaded onto the Random Thread related photos. Please can someone bring it here to this thread to complete the saga. Thanks

There appears to be some ground preparation / construction work in the south-western corner of the main car park - is that already for the hotel, or completely unrelated? Looks a bit small, but in the right area if I'm not mistaken.

Does anyone know how the terminal extension is coming on now the summer season is nearly upon us... Also I haven't seen anymore about who the retail outlets went to? any further news on the extension to the other side?

I've noted that in recent weeks and I'm not sure if it's for the hotel or some sort of upgrade for that part of the car park. I assumed the former.

I passed through the outside of the airport today and the eastern extension seems well on its way. Much of the outside seems to be done although there appears some groundwork still to be done. I thought that peak summer was the planned opening date.

As for the western extension to the terminal the airport website contains a piece (6 March this year) about the anniversary of the new terminal building in which it is said, "Fifteen years later, Chris (head of airport security) is focused on planning a new security search area as part of the anticipated next phase of development which will see the terminal extended to the west". So it looks as though this won't be far behind the eastern extension.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
