The new stands will be essential if the airport is ever to reach circa 10mppa. Does the airport anticipate any problems getting the planning approved?

I don't know of any anticipated problems but there is mention of it in the agenda for July's Airport Consultative Commitee Meeting.

It will be interesting to see what was said at the meeting!

I assumed, obviously wrongly, that all the future requirement for stands was included in the main expansion planning application that was approved last year.

The video certainly depicts an extended western apron and an extended eastern apron for that matter, including some air bridges.

The airport has always said it will carry out the expansion incrementally as traffic builds, with the priority being the extended terminal building.

Still no more news on the reported SBAE judicial review application re the main planning approval so far as I can determine.

Planning application for western apron stands

The minutes of the recent airport consultative committee meeting casts more light on this.

Last year the local authority gave outline planning consent for the major expansion but within this are specific or reserved matters that must be applied for individually when specific detail has been decided on.

This includes new stands and the airport is now seeking planning permission for six stands. This is not an increase over the number approved in the outline consent but merely a change of policy in that permission for six stands is being sought in one go instead of three, then another three at a later date.

It doesn't necessarily mean that, if approval for six stands is given, they will all be built at once.

The plan is still to phase in the expansion gradually as traffic numbers increase.

Planning application for western apron stands

North Somerset Council approved the planning application to extend the Western Apron, create 6 new stands and taxi-way widening on the 5th October 2011!

I would imagine the airport won't waste any time commencing construction work, I don't know how long it would take to construct but i would imagine the airport would be keen to have it up and running for Summer 2012! :yahoo:

Taking a look at North Somerset Council Planning Portal I can now see that the Airport Hotel has also been given Final Planning Permission on the 3rd October 2011 so again, I would imagine quite a lot of building work commencing at the airport shortly! Things seem to be moving along a bit now, with important pieces in the jigsaw for making the airport experience better for both passengers and partners! :yahoo:

It's good to get some positive news at last without the nimbys getting in the way at just about every hurdle.

Still awaiting the outcome of the Judicial Review though, unless I've missed something in the past week when I've been away enjoying the wilds of Dartmoor.

If the new stands are part of the major planning consents, as I believe they are, this is what the JR is seeking to challenge.

The hotel was a separate planning consent and may not be part of the JR application.

Good point TheLocalYokel, I didn't think of that! Damn, I thought we were getting somewhere then!

Well it Looks like the Weston apron extension is underway. They have erected a tempory fence separating the current apron and the old post office sheds.

Just a matter of time before the diggers are in.

That's excellent news - I saw some activity in that corner when I went past the airport during the week. If it's part of the major expansion plans I'm not sure how they can go ahead if the judicial review is still to be determined. Maybe it's not part of that planning consent.

I noted the CEO alluded to improvements next summer when commenting on the record September passenger numbers that were announced this week.

He believes that September’s result is 'an encouraging sign that strong growth will return in 2012' and went on to say, “To meet this anticipated demand we are already working on a range of further enhancements to the airport to accommodate the increased numbers and improve the overall passenger experience ahead of next summer.”

He must be confident that either the judicial review will be rejected or that there are sigificant improvements that can be made outside the major planning consents, so perhaps the enlarged apron is one.

[textarea]Bristol Airport awards SELEX Systems Integration PSR contract

SELEX Systems Integration PSR contractSELEX Systems Integration, the UK subsidiary of Finmeccanica company, SELEX Sistemi Integrati, has won a contract with Bristol Airport to deliver a new Primary Radar System (PSR) in support of the airport’s plans for future growth.

This contract will see SELEX Systems Integration install its proven ATCR 33 radar to provide 24/7 radar approach services at the fastest growing UK airport.

The radar’s state-of-the-art digital technology will deliver the high level of reliability and availability expected to match the ongoing ambitions of the airport, which has permission to develop facilities to handle 10 million passengers per annum by 2020.

In addition to the installation of the new PSR, SELEX Systems Integration will be responsible for upgrading the existing Radar Data Processing and Display system including additional controller tools and a full Mode S MSSR capability.[/textarea]

They are a few years late with their 'fastest growing UK airport' accolade.

Now that a judge has rejected expansion opponents' attempts to de-rail it by applying for a judicial review, and with the oponents admitting they could do no more to block it, the local BBC News at lunchtime today reproted the airport saying work would proceed in a few weeks.

However, this may be the additional stands on the western apron for which preparatory work was mentioned by big g a few days ago.

Well if the request for tenders has been put out the airport axpansion must be going ahead soon. I understand this is one of the final stages before work begins.

Well it Looks like the Weston apron extension is underway. They have erected a tempory fence separating the current apron and the old post office sheds.

I went to the airport today for the first time in two months and the work seems to be making good progress.

The area concerned, an extension of the western apron, will presumably eventually feed into the piers that are part of the continutation of the western walkway in the plans.

In the meantime I suppose the plan is to use them as remote stands although I don't know whether they will be walkable to the nearest point of the current walkway, or will need bus transfer.

In one sense this work means the expansion is now under way. Let's hope the additional stands will be needed next summer.

Anyone know any more and how many Cobus 3000s remain? There was quite a fleet at one time - before the western walkway was opened.

Whilst on the subject of buses I didn't see any 'bendy buses' on car park duty today, only the standard chassis vehicles. Have the 'bendies' been disposed of?

Hi conns757

Wrong thread but good news all the same. Thank you for sharing that bit of information with us.

Thanks conns.

Compliments of the Season.

The new apron is coming on well, looking at the proposed plans it look like the peir will extend down about another 100 yards before turning down what is currently the taxiway to stands 29-30 and 31-33 with them being relocated.
HERE is the plans that show the new layout in detail.

with regards to the Cobus 3000's i did count 6 today but they do have some equipment stored over in MT as the snow equipment is out, but I'm not sure about the bendy buses.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
