It does look rather shabby and needs a re-clad to brighten it up, hopefully something will be done once the masterplan is published.

Flatten it and build another pier similar to the one we have now but slightly longer. Then build a brand new terminal to the south where the car park now is.

If only money were no object eh?

Hasn't that actually been mentioned as a possibility for the future?

Anyway with regard to the reshuffling this will probably have mixed results as more passengers will have to be bussed to remote stands, but Ryanair previously said any future BHX expansion would depend on available space and I'm hoping this will influence any future plans from them.

This is also likely to give Jet2 more room to add aircraft in S18 :)

I boarded from the old 2 last summer on a busy Friday morning and it was a pleasure to wait there in relative peace
after the crowds and bustle of the shopping mall. A short walk along the corridor and it was like you were flying from a different (quieter) airport.

I've had similar experiences. Flew from T2 summer before last, we were the only people in the bar area. Back in the main T1, the bar war full. Much more pleasant. Seems a lot of people don't even realise that T1 is there until they go for their flight!

I believe it was part of the 'beyond 2030' master plan. I guess it really depends on how close to reality a move across the M42 is. If it's a genuine reality they may well decide to spend as little as possible on the current site.

I thought the same thing and Kenny Jacobs words now make sense.

It does make you wonder what the future now holds for Norwegian, Vueling and Wizz and potential growth. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Norwegian were gone from October (for winter at least). Vueling I guess could go either way, Birmingham is seeing growth this year but they've cut two UK airports and MAN-AMS is now no longer bookable direct, what are their future plans for the UK? I'm quite disappointed that we've not managed to get anything new from Wizz, they did say that there would be a slow down in UK growth and that may now focus on London?

It potentially bodes well for Jet2 though if airlines are being moved to accommodate them (y)

I've given up trying to predict what Vueling might do next - all the rumours circulating them never seem to come to fruition and then they throw out a curveball like BHX-ORY. As it stands BHX is second to LGW now for number of destinations and with no cuts (as yet) I'm hopeful that they'll continue to grow. From what I recall BCN-LBA/NCL were supposedly added to build up brand awareness in the north for a possible MAN base. Whether this is true or not I don't know but if so I wonder if they are having a change of statergy? Like I say there next move is anyone's guess.

Yeah I read that to but find it very hard to believe. It's not cheap to open up new routes to new airports and to think that they'd spend that kind of money, at not just one airport but two, to try and build brand awareness in a totally different city doesn't sit with me. Are we to believe that people from Leeds are now thinking 'ah well I'll have to use Vueling from MAN now'? Nope they'll still be using LBA to Barcelona just on Jet2 or Monarch.

A huge advertising campaign would have had a much better effect.

After Mr Kehoe's comments about how to utilise the existing airport site to it's full potential it appears as if Mayoral candidate favourite Andy Street is against a second runway branding it a 'vanity project'.

But his Conservative opponent Andy Street hit back, describing the plan as “a vanity project” - because the airport, in Solihull, could handle twice as many passengers even without a new runway.

He said a second runway meant “spending tens of millions of pounds and wasting land necessary for employment and housing, while putting residents through major disruption.

His opponent Mr Smith however says that he "won't accept no for an answer when it comes to expanding our airport and that means commitment to a new runway."

And he pledged: “If I am elected West Midlands Mayor, I won’t accept no for an answer on expanding our airport. And that means nothing short of a commitment to a second runway.”

I suppose it makes sense to get the most out of the one runway just as LGW does before considering building a second one.

Unless something drastic is done with the terminal buildings a second runway would result in runway capacity well in excess of terminal capacity.

As has been said, Gatwick proves that BHX can handle much more passengers on its single runway (assuming the terminal capacity is expanded as well).

Only problem with saying no to a second runway now is where do you put one if BHX does need it. With the UK Central plans progressing, there won't be room for a second runway over at the HS2 interchange once UKC is underway.

That is my concern, what happens if/when we do need another runway in the future? If we think that BHX is hemmed in now it'll be so much worse once Arden Cross and all of the HS2 developments are done?

I hope that we have a bit of foresight in this one.

It seems as if we've had a design change for the proposed hotel on Concorde Road.

I can't seem to copy the drawings on to here so click the links below to see the designs

Anybody fancy having a guess at the operator based on the info below? Indian Terra Cotta and Pearl Yellow, Marriott maybe? There are pictures on the link.

Design Philosophy. The Hotel will be ‘branded’ and the materials selected reflect the brands colour scheme. The site has a gradual fall from south to north. To accommodate this fall the building is set on a blue brick plinth. The main entrance elevation has a dominant entrance canopy that is clad with ‘Pearl Yellow’ rainscreen cladding that contrasts with the main ‘brand’ colour that is represented by the ‘Indian Terra Cotta rainscreen cladding that frames the curtain walling glazing. Clear glazing is provided to the vision windows with ‘look-a-like’ glazing to the areas that are situated in front of solid walls. The roof is finished in a pressed metal trim PPC Mid-grey. The main elevation fronting Concorde Road continues the theme with ‘Pearl Yellow’ rainscreen cladding to the single storey element at ground floor level and the ‘Indian Terra Cotta rainscreen cladding that frames the curtain walling glazing to the upper floors. The‘Pearl Yellow’ rainscreen cladding extends up the lift shaft wall to give a vertical emphasis to the building, terminating at roof top level with the plant room that is clad with flat insulated cladding panels colour to match the cladding.

This hotel is expected to begin construction 'within the next few months'.

Here it is:

Looks nice, any idea of the operator ?

There is an amended planning app on the SMBC site and the colours have changed to reflect the brand. The cladding is to be 'Pearl Yellow' and 'Indian Terra Cotta', what hotel chain has those colours?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
