Apparently the stands are for B737 and A320/321 aircraft so could be a big year for bhx next summer

and if so, how will the based airlines of Ryanair, Jet2, and Easyjet react to this?? - Fingers crossed it would be a postive reaction, and not chopping of any routes that Wizz could potentional muscle in on?
I haven’t got pictures but it’s was very outdated and small. When I was airport standby for Ryanair (when the old crew room was over that side of the airport) we used to exit that way it was never manned unless there was domestic flights.
I fly Jet2 on a regular basis. Last 2 times into 'South' docking on I think were Stands 2 & 4, walked straight into Border Force area. Yes small, no e gates, but through Border Force control within 10 mins. If on the leased A330, you can be anywhere, 80's or even airbridge. 3 weeks ago was 48, so short walk to Border force. Yes I've been lucky, I'll know more in 3 weeks when I return on the A330!!
Thankfully no bus transfers. As an aside, partner flew back to ALC this morning and noted, 'loads' new booths being installed and checked for forthcoming EES control. Installing and training in place for Oct 12th

Do we have any idea when the expansion of the lounge into the old security area will be complete? I also believe this includes the opening up of the old millenium link for F&B which will make the T2 departures much easier to find. Assuming the hard deadline will be next summer rush but would be good if was completed before then?

The planning application for the new junction on the A45 has gone in this week. The junction will allow the car hire facility to be moved across and the current site used for the HS2 people mover construction.

Not happy with just the passenger security queues, now BHX want to increase the traffic queues in the area.
The rush hour queues often go back from the cargo hub traffic lights back to the golf course lights and back towards the wheatsheaf.
Now add another junction to the same stretch of road is only going to add to the problem. Why don't they just add a long slip road to the site instead of a junction.
What is wrong with using access via the cargo hub instead of inflicting more misery to the road users at rush hour.

Back to the topic of Construction and Infrastructure, BHX seem to have updated their website, discussing in detail all of the works currently underway which is pretty insightful regarding how the airport will change over the next 12 months....
World of Duty Free Changes
Following the move of security last year, the WDF store needs to be reconfigured to enhance passenger flow with a relocation of the exit into the Passenger Search Area (PSA). Due to the size and prominence of WDF, this is a significant collaboration project between WDF partners and multiple BHX teams, expected to take around 18 months. The wait will be worth it though as the new store will unlock a brand-new commercial concourse linking the north and south departure lounges.
South Baggage enhancements
This development will benefit those arriving back into BHX in the South. A full reconfiguration area has already been delivered that has expanded the South Immigration and Baggage reclaim area. This important development will provide an increase from five to eight primary control points, operated by Border Force and will also future proof the introduction of e-Gates, further enhancing passenger efficiency and experience in coming years. These changes in the South will allow and increase in the number of arriving flights that BHX can process in this area.
Ground Floor Project
This was one of the first investment project launched in 2025 and will be delivered in stages over the course of the financial year. Work includes the removal of redundant lighting and ceilings, repairing damaged flooring, installation of new ventilation for Ground and 1st Floor lobbies and a new fire curtain, alongside new bulkheads at the entrance of Check-In areas. These improvements have already made a noticeable difference with messy cabling removed and replaced with a look that is cleaner and smarter. The second stage of this project will start after the summer peak and will include the relocation of Caffè Nero. We will also improve the Assisted Travel Reception with enhancements alongside a refresh of entrance doors and lobbies.
Make Up Carousel 7 (MUC7)
As passenger numbers at BHX increase, so too does the demand on baggage facilities. This development will deliver an additional facility to complement the existing six providing service to the North terminal. This new facility has the capacity to handle approximately 500 bags an hour and will mean that future growth and demand is provided for.
Runway and Taxiway works
Aside from our normal November closures for ongoing maintenance on our runway and taxiways (such things as patch repairs, rubber removal and drainage upgrades), there are two large surface projects in 2025. The first is already underway and due for completion in October, building a new access for large freight aircraft onto the Elmdon apron which replaces use of the old taxiway Foxtrot. To enable these works all the Elmdon stands have already been realigned, giving us much better access to aircraft for loading & unloading. The new access, taxiway Hotel, is the size of two Olympic swimming pools and absorbs over 6000 tons of aggregate materials.
The second piece of work is rebuilding a lot of taxiway Uniform at the west (nearest runway) end between November and March, this is part of our ongoing maintenance and replacement of taxiways that are getting quite old and being transited by larger aircraft than originally planned. Specialist concrete is used, making sure that we are prepared for heavier aircraft in future years. As it is a key location, and near the works on the 80s stands, a lot of co-ordination with airlines, handling agents and operational teams is required to deliver this project.
New Stand Reconfiguration
During winter 2025/26 we will be increasing the number of Code C stands through reconfiguration of current stands 80-83 which, at the moment, aren’t all of a suitable size for the newer A321s and B737s. There’s a jigsaw puzzle of works to do this, including surfacing the large grass area between the 70s and 80s to allow us to move ground equipment and bus parking, thereby releasing space for roads and expanded stands. The new stands will be set up for Aviramp use, enabling easier boarding for Assisted Travel passengers as well, meaning that we have space for planned new based aircraft from easyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair in 2026.
There are some other minor projects not mentioned here but above are the key changes we should be seeing over the next 12 months...

I think once this is done they have definitely squeezed as much as they can out of the current site, looking forward to seeing it next summer.
Hopefully we'll see an updated master plan next year with some terminal expansion included.

Indeed, after this is complete, proper expansion and building work will be needed.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
