Fly bmi

Re: bmi

No suprise ther.

Regarding "what is it with bmi, do they not advertise etc etc"

Well they do advertise, they advertise alot. But they are not advertising what people want.. the CPH service was useless for most due to the timings, the domestic services by regional are expensive, unreliable and people dont like paying the high fares for the poor level of inflight service.. and alot of people actually dont like the ERJ.

The downgrade to an ERJ was the first sign of the end for LHR out of Leeds as i predicted on another forum. This route has died due to the bmi business model and the sham that is BAA LHR, the least attractive place to transfer through in the whole of Europe.

Predictions for the month ahead;

flybe to take bmi regional
new london route possible. could be STN or LTN, LCY at a streatch even. FR not getting on with management at Stansted either tho so it cud be a long wait before anything comes to fruition.
12 months ago i would have said 4th rotation to AMS from KLC but inlight of the economic slow down this probably will not come about now.

Wish list?
2 Daily flights to LCY at times apealing to the business man and leisure passenger
FK100 back on some of the AMS flights instead of All F70 or even a E190 rotation

LBA-LHR end of an era

Re: bmi

personally i think that bmi are useless at lba there routes would do so much better under a different airline

Brussels - Jet2.com
Glasgow - Flybe
Edinburgh - Ryanair - since ryanair expanding up there

LCY or LGW by BE or LS

also they operate bigger air craft and cheaper fairs which means more passengers for lba

but bad week for lba loosing copanhagen and heathrow in same week
but look on the bright side we have gained an afternoon southampton service with Eastern :yahoo: (sarcasim)

Re: bmi

i tought they would do that, but it wont be a loss for leeds they never did much for the airport anyway!!!!

an airline thats going no where...on the plus side now they cant do malta run , that would have been a waste of a route to give to them.

Re: bmi

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We could now see the arrival of a Flybe base.

Flybe would be ideally suited to routes such as London Gatwick as a replacement for the Heathrow service and potentially other bmi routes such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. Flybe would offer passengers more flexibility with leisure fares as opposed to primarily business fares.

I think as a whole bmi passengers are generally hacked off with the service bmi provide. Most would be glad to see a new airline come in and operate these kind of domestic routes. An airline with aspirations and ambition would be welcomed after all the years of apparent stagnation by bmi.

Re: bmi

Unfortunately according to tother forum LBA's LHR service has been canned. Hopefuly it will encourage perhaps a low cost start up to LGW with perhaps BMI offering a connection to FRA for interlining with LH?

Re: bmi

So, it's official then. On the BMI website. How come Manchester gets away without even a reduction????? Madness if you ask me.

Time for BMI to right off from LBA me thinks and give a proper airline a chance.

bmi London Heathrow Service to Cease Operations

Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) has today confirmed that bmi mainline is to cease operating the London Heathrow service from 28 March 2009. bmi carried 62,000 departing passengers on their 4 times daily service in 2008 and had in recent months reduced capacity on the route in response to current market conditions.

John Parkin, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford International Airport commented, “This announcement by bmi mainline is of course disappointing news. We are well aware of the importance to our region of regular air links to London and we expect to be in a position to announce new services to the capital shortly.”

John Parkin continues “Today’s announcement by bmi mainline does not affect the bmi regional base at Leeds Bradford which currently offers 46 flights a week to Brussels, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Plans to expand bmi regional with new routes from LBIA are well advanced and continuing.”

At least that sounds positive, so there could be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Is Frankfurt still a possibility?

Re: bmi

Im guessing Flybe to Gatwick, still confident BMI will offer a Luthansa cross connection through Frankfurt.

Re: bmi

Well, we all saw this coming I think and the takeover by LH and downgrading to the Emraer 145 was the nail in the coffin.

Anyone know if the Teeside route has been axed too. If not why not???

It is really the end of a long era, as I think this route has been constantly served since the very early 1960's without any break. Even if another airline wanted to operate it, they would never get the slots so it looks like that is it for good.

Thanks a lot BMi!! Michael Bishop goes and not longer after, so does our LHR link. :sorry:

Re: bmi

Teeside also axed as off March.

Have read these slots, along with the Airbuses will be joining Lufthansa Italia, any truth to this?

Re: bmi

lets hope another airline gets the frankfurt route and not bmi, if bmi did then they would end up cancelling it after a few months like all the other routes they have done.

Re: bmi

Bmi are talking about minimising redundancies through redeployment, which is odd given the airport are talking about BMi regional expansion. If they were going to do FRA instead of LHR, and expand at all via introducing other new routes, they would not need that many redundancies would they?

The very fact they are looking to off-load staff at LBA suggests that there is going to be very little, if any increase in routes by BMi Regional. Personally, I still think they will be sold off, and those made redundant will be the ones that either don't want to TUPE to the new airline, or the new airline doesn't want them.

Re: bmi

I agree White Heather. I believe that Aviance are already laying off staff so it's not looking good at all. I just hope the London service can be announced as soon as possible to allay any fears. Having said that, if Flybe do do the Gatwick route, they will almost certainly be using Servisair and not Aviance.

Re: bmi

They've said that the main reason is the above inflation increase in landing charges at Heathrow. Why have BAA done that now, coud it be related to the increased flights demand due to T5 opening recently?

Re: bmi

To be honest Rob this has been expected for a while, years in fact. Most people at the airport have suspected that the Heathrow route would be withdrawn recession or no recession mainly because of slot restraints at Heathrow. The slots into Heathrow which are owned by bmi were becoming more viable operating to other more profitable routes within Europe. I don't foresee regional services returning at any time in the future, even if the third runway gets built.

Re: bmi

Do we need air services to LHR? Most London bound passengers can use the train, and interliners can go via AMS, BRU or, hopefully FRA. As I said a couple of days ago, get LGW and FRA and go on from there. I am sure that's what the airport is aiming to do.

Re: bmi

What annoys me most about this is that MAN is keeping its LHR connections, giving the North West a big advantage (again) over the Yorkshire region. Although interlining via BRU and AMS (and possibly FRA) are fine as alternatives, there are still some occasions where LHR is either quicker or the only option. I fail to see why Bmi drop LBA and DTV but keep on MAN in competition with BA. The landing fees are just the same wherever the flight is operating from into LHR and it is hard to believe that the MAN flights are any more profitable than those from LBA!

Re: bmi

This was published on 'thebusinessdesk.com' website

GERMAN airline Lufthansa believes its Manchester operation will benefit from rival bmi's decision to axe its Leeds Bradford to Heathrow service.

The carrier, which ironically is also growing thanks to business and leisure passengers shunning London's Heathrow, says that it expects Yorkshire travellers - particularly business people - who use Heathrow as a hub for international connections, to now consider using Lufthansa's services from Manchester.

The dirty rotten :aggressive:

How on earth can they describe bmi as a rival! :bad:

Re: bmi

So I think that once and for all rules out LH ever coming to LBA. Let's face it, they couldn't find Yeadon in the war either!!!!

It would really serve them right if someone like FlyBe came in and did it.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
