There is a rumour going around that Bridgepoint Capital have been in discussion recently with both bmi and BA. So what the out come off all this will be is still unknown. Hopefully it will be good news at the end off all this.

Not a rumour. 2 meetings at least - I was asked to get involved with the prep for the first one
Meetings don't mean new routes of course - but the first one was positive, hence the reason for a second one !

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Well it seems that BA have confirmed they are to buy BMi from Lufthansa and have announced 1000 redundancies at BMi, mainly at their East Midlands HQ, but also at 'Regional Airports'. That would seem to spell the end for the LBA - Brussels route and our based E135 and it crew. Its hard to imagine it siaying in view of this announcement.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Here's the link which explains more:

[textarea]British Airways and BMI deal puts 1,200 jobs at risk

British Airways owner IAG has said its deal to buy the BMI airline from Lufthansa for £172.5m could result in the loss of up to 1,200 jobs.

The announcement came as BA began consultations with unions on plans to integrate BMI into its operations.

IAG, which also owns Spain's Iberia, will gain 56 more slots at Heathrow airport as part of the deal.

The Unite union said it was saddened by the proposed job losses and would seek to mitigate the impact of the cuts.

"Unite will be fighting to maintain as many jobs as possible and ensure that where vacancies exist people can be placed into suitable roles within BA," said national officer Oliver Richardson.

The pilots' union, Balpa, said it would allocate "all the resources at its disposal" to support pilots affected by the takeover.

Loss making

The sale of BMI to AIG was announced in December and regulatory approval was granted by the European Commission on 30 March.

The deal is expected to take effect on 20 April, IAG said.

BMI employs more than 3,600 staff, but reported a £153m loss in the year to 2010.

I understand what’s happened today only effects bmi mainline operations flight and Cabin Crew which are been integrated into British Airways along with its staff at based down at London Heathrow Terminal 1.
All the Major job losses announced today mainly effect bmi mainline staff based at its current Headquarters at Donnington Hall next to East Midlands Airport. Also staff based at its UK stations like Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen & Belfast will also be effected by the announced job losses.

More important is the latest update for bmi employees by its Employers. Note the last sentence in first paragraph in the below update. "bmi Regional and bmi baby, discussions with potential buyers continue" So what has been announced today still dose not effect these 2 operators and there futures have yet still to decided. Even though it looks grimmer ever day for there staff.

Sad day for british midland. But bmi regional and bmi baby will continue to operate there summer schedules. Well that's until either Lufthansa finds a buyer or British Airways have to disband them due to no interest for either.

Dear Colleagues,

Since my last update to you we have had further discussions with BA and have now completed the integration proposals for bmi mainline. For bmi Regional and bmibaby, discussions with potential buyers continue.

As you know, the integration of the bmi mainline business into BA is crucial in order to achieve the synergies needed to make the business viable. It is therefore important that we act fast, so today we will begin a 90 day consultation with our union partners and elected representatives who were not part of the commercial consultation. At the meetings we will consult on proposals to integrate bmi mainline into BA.

The proposal is to completely integrate bmi into BA in time for the start of the winter 2012 schedule. This means that the bmi brand will disappear and our fleet will be repainted in British Airways’ livery and transferred to BA in a phased manner. The bmi AOC will cease to exist after the integration process has been completed. All commercial and operational activities will be integrated into BA and the head office and support functions will be absorbed.

The operational integration at LHR would secure jobs for up to 1,500 bmi mainline staff. Around 1,100 bmi cabin crew, pilots and engineers based at Heathrow would join BA and up to 400 passenger services jobs would be secured at Heathrow Terminal 1.

Regrettably, the integration proposals will lead to up to 1,200 redundancies. These roles are primarily based in the Midlands, at regional airports and in support, commercial and overhead functions. In the case of redundancies bmi's redundancy arrangements would apply.

We deeply regret that there will be job losses. Please understand that integration was the best possible solution for our business. *Consultation will seek to mitigate the impact of these potential redundancies, including matching to vacancies in British Airways at Heathrow. BA and bmi are also working on potential job opportunities with industry partners in the Midlands, such as Rolls-Royce.

Today a number of staff briefings will take place in key locations and the details of these meetings will be communicated to you shortly.

Please note that until completion takes place, which is expected around 20th April, there are still restrictions on the exchange of information; your manager can provide guidance as needed.

We will continue to keep you updated and you can continue to contact the [email protected] email address with any queries you may have. We will publish those questions we can answer at this stage on the dedicated section on the bmi group intranet.

With best regards,

Wolfgang Prock-Schauer

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Looks like the developments we've all been expecting for ages on the Scots routes will start to finally happen in the next few weeks

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

I have heard that after the loss of GLA-LBA, EDI-LBA and BRU-LBA are also going to be cut.

No time announced yet, but its come for a usually good source.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

The Leeds - Brussels route was said to be a success story for BMI so if the route doesn't fit into the new owners plans hopefully the route will be taken up by Brussels Airlines.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

I have heard that Its going as part of a re-structuring for the new owners, whoever they may be.

Currently, Lufthansa is not saying which routes within their group being operated by bmi will be continued.

Currently, Brussels Airlines does not have the capacity to take on the LBA route.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Well glasgow is being axed, no flights from sometime in may although loganair is taking over so it could see the flights increase to 3 daily, wont be long before the other two go.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Just looking on the bmi website and it looks like the Leeds to Edinburgh route is also been suspended on 27 April 2012, As when you try to book a flight on the http://www.flybmi.com website for the month of May or anytime after the it comes up with the following message.

Please note: Our service from Leeds Bradford to Edinburgh will be suspended on 27 April 2012.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Leeds Bradford airport (LBA) to Glasgow (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI) flights suspended. Glasgow route taken on by Loganair on behalf of Flybe.

Well if we're all honest, we've been expecting this to happen for quite sometime, as should the airport company so lets hope the Edinburgh route can be filled as quickly as possible. Hopefully Loganair/Flybe might be able to take on the Edinburgh route too although it's looking unlikely at this stage.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

This would explain why servisair rang me back saying that their business needs/plans for summer had literally changed today. Sad day i suppose, but lets hope eastern/flybe/newairline can expand and get LBA working like BD regional once did ha!

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

It must have been a plan already in action as you can book flights effective of tomorrow..!

Flybe and Loganair seem, already, to be the people who are better suited!

Does 2 turnarounds a day to EDI disappearing - on a flight that was cancelled more often than not and had single figure passenger numbers most of the time - really constitute a change of plans ? The first wave of Ryanair departures on a single day must handle more passengers than BMI were carrying to EDI in a month !

LS16 i think LBA managerment have been really looky in getting a replacement for the Glasgow route in the form of Loganair/Flybe so quickly. I understand that neither Loganair or any other airline is interested in operating a replacement Leeds - Edinburgh route at the moment. As it currently runs now bmi carries about half the number of passengers on its Edinburgh route compared to the Glasgow route.

I have heard that 2 airlines have been in talks about the Leeds - Brussels service but as things stand bmi regional will continue to operate the route, Well at least until the end off the Summer Schedule.
Its has been confirmed nothing will be announced until Lufthanasa eventually sells off both its bmi regional and bmi baby divisions. If its passed over to IAG, Now they have said they will closed down both the bmi baby and regional operations as they have no intentions to intergrate it into the group.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Well it looks like Brussels will be going soon, it turns out IAG deal for BMI has gone through but, IAG are also taking over BMI regional and BMI Baby as Luthansa haven't managed to sell these separately.

Concorde Lover like I mentioned in my last post on here, As far as I understand the airport management are talking with 2 or maybe 3 airlines regarding the Brussels route replacement.

bmi regional (Now under IAG Ownership as of mid-night) will continue to operate the Brussels flights for the time been. But watch this space regarding a replacement service to Brussels been announced soon. Well hopefully before IAG shut down both bmi's regional and baby divisions in October. That's if they don't find a buyer for either.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

bmi regional are you to there usual tricks I see tomorrow.

The based Embrear 135 aircraft is positioning out to Hawarden tomorrow morning at 05:50 to operate a charter from there for Airbus and will not return until late tomorrow evening leaving no aircraft to operate tomorrows 2x Brussels flights.

So Instead they will double up both flights and operating a rescheduled mid-day rotation instead with and larger Embrear 145 which is been positioned in from East Midlands.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

A ggod artical has appeared on the Telegraph and Argus website today regarding bmi axing the Edinburgh and Glasgow routes. LBIA's Tony Hallwood has been interviewed by the paper and he goes on to state that the airport is actively working on getting a replacement service to both Edinburgh and also hopefully to London.

http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co....eeds_Bradford_air_link_to_Scotland/r/?ref=rss

Bid to replace Leeds-Bradford air link to Scotland

1982185

LBIA commercial director Tony Hallwood

Bosses at Leeds-Bradford International Airport are trying to find another airline to maintain daily flights to Edinburgh, which are due to be axed from Friday.

Operator BMI Regional, recently taken over by International Airlines Group, which owns BA and Iberia, said services to the Scottish capital would be suspended from April 27 due to low demand.

Meanwhile, a small Scottish airline has stepped in to rescue services between LBIA and Glasgow, and BMI said its flights to Brussels would also continue.

A BMI spokesman said passengers booked on Edinburgh or Glasgow flights after April 27 will be offered a choice of a full refund or an alternative route.

Tony Hallwood, LBIA commercial director, said airport chiefs were actively seeking a replacement airline to provide flights between West Yorkshire and Edinburgh.

While I can confirm that services to Edinburgh are being suspended by BMI Regional, we are on the case and actively seeking an alternative operator to continue services on that route.”

Cancellation of Edinburgh flights is the latest blow for LBIA, which axed connections with London Heathrow in 2009. A service to Gatwick airport operated by regional airline Flybe was also ended last year, leaving Yorkshire’s main airport with no direct links to the capital.

Mr Hallwood said efforts continued to try and find a way of restoring London services.

The service between Leeds-Bradford Airport and Glasgow has been saved, with Scottish airline Loganair stepping in to replace BMI as the route operator.

The move will safeguard business links and open up connections to the Scottish Islands through Loganair’s Glasgow airport hub .

In addition to weekday flights, Loganair will also reintroduce a Sunday service between Leeds-Bradford and Scotland after a gap of several years. It will launch two flights each weekday from May 8 and also introduce a Sunday evening service in each direction from September 2.

Loganair is also cutting business fares by ten per cent below those charged by British Midland .

There will be flight departures from Glasgow at 07:10 and 17:15 return flights from Leeds-Bradford at 08:45 and 18:50 on weekdays. Sunday evening services from September 2 will operate at the same time as weekday flights, and the airline will consider increasing the frequency of weekday services if there is demand for more flights.

Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s chief operating officer, said: “We are delighted to be announcing the launch of services between these two airports. Loganair has every confidence that its successful formula will revitalise this crucial air service between Scotland and West Yorkshire and help to ensure that business links between these regions are maintained and developed.”

Loganair operates its scheduled services under a franchise agreement with regional airline Flybe, which also operates flights from Yeadon.

Re: British Midland International (BMI)

Looks like the standard press release when an air route is lost from any airport with quote "actively seeking a replacement airline to provide flights". Flybe and Eastern Airways seem like the obvious choice replacement but it appears the airport has had little success at persuading either of them to operate the route so far.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
