Looks like the standard press release when an air route is lost from any airport with quote "actively seeking a replacement airline to provide flights". Flybe and Eastern Airways seem like the obvious choice replacement but it appears the airport has had little success at persuading either of them to operate the route so far.

Yeah I agree with you on that one Aviador.

I would hazard a guess it's going to be a sad day for bmi regional ops up at LBA tomorrow. Especially in the evening when both the Edinburgh and Glasgow routes depart back to Scotland for the very last time, They have operated both routes for many a years now.

Just to think back 4 /5 years ago, bmi had upto 5 based aircraft at LBA, Compromising 4x Embrear regional jets and an Airbus A319/320. Operating successful services to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paris Cdg, London Heathrow, Cork, Jersey, Copenhagen and lastly not forgetting the Brussels service which continues for now. I wont even mention that ill fated Lille service!

How times have changed?

I see that the Chief Operating Officer at Loganair is Jonathan Hinkles - a Leeds lad and a LBA supporter when he was young. I used to talk to him regularly at the cemetary and when he was a teenager, he wanted to join the Airport Support Group. He had no qualms about meeting the airport director and telling him what he thought - often not too complimentary. But since then he has written articles in Aviation magazines, and managed City Flyer Express, Astreaus, that airline that operated blue 767's transatlantic from Stansted until it went bust a few years ago, and now he has turned up at Loganair. Good on him for rescuing LBA's Glasgow flights.

Indeed- although I think he's a Bradfordian rather than a Leeds lad. BA Cityflyer to Gatwick & Astraeus charter base were two other very notable contributions from JH.

Working his notice at Loganair and will soon be joining Virgin Atlantic, I believe. Considering the leaps of faith some of our regular contributors like to make, this news will surely set off some outlandish rumour-mongering

I was thinking more like getting Jet2 to operate a 3 x daily to LHR as a full code-share Virgin Atlantic connection.

Well the BBC News website is now saying that IAG maybe have got a deal sorted and are about to sell bmi regional at long last to the Granite investors based up in Aberdeen. Also there are reports saying that they may become a flybe.com franchise operator joining Loganair.

If this is the eventual out come for bmi regioanl, I wonder if Granite/flybe will keep the Leeds based aircraft and continue to operate the Brussels route but operating as a flybe franchise with the Brussels Airlines Codeshare from the winter scheduled onwards?

Perhaps they may also decide to put the aircraft to good use during day instead of sat around doing nothing, somewhere like a daily hamburg would do.

If it ends up being connected to FlyBe/Loganair then it could be very good news for LBA...

Routes such as; Hamburg, Frankfurt and Hannover fit in very nicely with their business model. It could also become a closer reality that Scandinavia becomes part of the LBA network as well...

Just a thought!

Frankfurt is no longer served by flybe, so any German routes would be HAM DUS or HAJ.

More likely is CDG with an Air France codeshare.

According to the FlyBe website, Frankfurt is still bookable and operational from both Southampton and Glasgow International right through into 2013...

The bmi Glasgow was an error. It shouldn't have been on and was removed.

Also the Loganair crew got a nice welcome to LBA by ATC this morning..

Good news as it is been reported that bmi regional has been sold by IAG to private investors, that Includes the Aberdeen based granite group and the owners of Scottish based airline Loganair for £8 million.

Well it looks like the bmi brand will live on afteral. As the new owner of bmi regional Aberdeen based Sector Aviation Holdings Ltd (SAH) will also take with it the bmi brand and http://www.flybmi.com website as part of the deal according to the BBC News website.

It hopes to develop the regional network with new routes, but its first aim to consolidate its current operations. It looks like the new bmi regional are keeping the Leeds based aircraft and crews as the Winter 2012/2013 scheduled flights to Brussels have just been released and are now on sale.

This is fantastic news for LBA. Hopefully the new airline can offer much better full service regional flights, and hopefully get connections with new airlines. (LH at FRA). They'd need to rid the ERJ's though, replace them with something like the Q400 (something similar to Porter airlines in america)

I'd agree with that. The ERJ's might have suited the short haul network during the good times prior recession but those good days have well and truly gone. They need to look at a more economical aircraft and offer a different and less expensive kind of product.

Bank holiday today and a bridge day tomorrow in most of continental Europe. Bmir generally cancel the Brussels on such days.
