Seems to be there M.O. Back to base ASAP leaving 200+ passengers for each flight stuck at LBA , despite it being open and the runway cleared.

Yes, normal practice however for a time this morning FR24 was showing a single Wizz Air flight from GLA-LBA, so not sure what happened there.

Loganair Embrear 145, G-SAJO is due into LBA tomorrow evening operating the return charter flight for Brighton FC.

LOG812P = ETA 17:25 from Newcastle.
LOG826 = ETD 19:10 to London Gatwick

You would think, given the extreme circumstances they would have halted the works for a couple of days. Would be surprised given the conditions if any work took place anyway.

Couldn't agree more. You would have thought the airport would be trying to help with a tiny bit of flexibility rather than putting up barriers.

They have a contractor who is there ready and waiting to do a job, with all the equipment to hand, and that contractor is to complete by a set deadline ahead if the summer schedule. They wouldn't have been able to do anything Thursday night due to the weather, so doing nothing again last night would probably put them behind schedule.

Effectively, when you have a contract, the runway becomes the contractors at a set time. If the airport stops this and the works overrun as a result, the additional work required to complete, can be viewed as out of contract and frankly, will cost a fortune. It's ironically known as 'Dayworks' and is a licence for contractors to print money..In the same way, if the contractor fails to meet the target, then LBA will be compensated under the contract terms. So, LBA telling contractors to just hang on a couple of hours while late aircraft get in, really isn't an option . ATC cover will also be planned around the published hours.

All airlines were notified of the night closure ahead of the winter period and know that if they are late, for whatever reason, they will be flying elsewhere. It's the same at any airport with a single runway.

Regarding the conditions, as long as their were runway slabs accessible to replace, which clearly there were as the runway was in use, then the contractors can work.

Should be A321, HA-LXZ as "WZZ405"

Looks like it maybe positioning into operate the extra Bucharest flight WZZ1016 that's due out at 14:00 and was originally planned to be flown by the tech Airbus A321, HA-LXY. But it would seem she remains tech & stranded at LBA so like you say it possibly bringing in some engineers too.

It's late. Two Wizz flights, both from Katowice, (1 x A320 & 1 x A321) are just crossing the North Sea, one behind the other, heading to LBA (1340 hrs).

Sorry but a contract is a contract, and where do you draw the line? What I'm telling you isn't my imagination. I worked as a project manager dealing with these contracts . You might not like it but neither would the contractor when he's waiting to start work and being told to wait.

No I do take your point - it's not that I don't like it - none of my business - just seemed very harsh that a loaded aircraft ready to go and likely to be out of the way by curfew or at least a minute or two over could not be afforded that flexibility. Of course a line has to be drawn and I agree 1 or 2 hours is not appropriate - whereas in the circumstances 1 or 2 minutes might be.

And I agree with you. But I'm sure there are other factors we are unaware of that played a part here.
But I was simply explaining how these contracts within the construction industry tend to work and why it is that the airport may not have the option of delaying handover to the contractor at the specified time, just because there's a flight ready to leave or due in very soon.

On nights where no runway works are happening, such as over the Christmas break, the airport did stay open later than the published hours on a few occasions so the fact they didn't yesterday tends to add weight to my point.
