Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Bet it was nearly as noisy as Jet2's 757's!! :shok:

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I'm glad someone posted this, as I was in Guiseley when I first heard it. The cloud cover is quite low and dense and so I couldn't see anything until it broke out of the clouds. I'm not very good clued up on my military aircraft so I'm glad someone was able to identify it... and yes it was noisy over Guiseley. When I first saw it I thought - KLM F100, but then after a few seconds realised this was something very different....

Believe me not as nice as the 757 RR noise! NO matter what time of day! Horrible horrible thundering sound, that went on for ages.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Those VC10 Rolls Royce Conways are almost 50 years old. The VC10 was one of the most advanced and beautiful airliners ever built with features like auto-flare on landing. Having the engines at the back gave greater comfort in the cabin. The final version the Super VC10 was far superior to the B707.
It was also planned to utilise part of the cago hold to produce a double deck layout carrying up to 265 pax. Just another missed huge opportunity to lead the world.
More info......
The Vickers VC10 was a long-range British airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd, and first flown in 1962. The airliner was designed to operate on long-distance routes with a high subsonic speed and also be capable of hot and high operations from African airports. The initial concept of the VC10 was to provide a jet-powered airliner that could comfortably make use of the shorter runways commonly in use at the time. The performance of the VC10 was such that it achieved the fastest crossing of the Atlantic - London to New York by a jet airliner, a record still held to date for a sub-sonic airliner; only the supersonic Concorde remains faster.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

are they not retiring them this year? i think they are being replaced by a airbus tanker.

fantastic noise!!!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

from past experience the VC10's are very loud, one foggy night about 2230 last year I was stood on stand 22 awaiting an inbound and unaware of it's arrival it piereced through the fog and carried such a loud noise with it. From what i remember it parked on taxiway November and a police escort drove out to it with a squadie. It then went to MAN from LBA if i remember correctly or it could have been Brize Norton :dunno:

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

VC10
All turbojet aircraft were very noisy before high by-pass turbofans were invented.
The VC10 was actually the flying test bed for the first RB211 Tristar engine. They removed 2 Conways at one side of the airframe and installed one massive new turbofan.
The 737-200 was always the noisiest at LBA having to use max thrust to lift off from the then 5,400ft runway in those days.

Sorry off thread again.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

It seems Jet2 have been moving some aircraft around again.

From what I understand;

G-LSAG which was LBA based has swapped with NCL's based G-LSAH.
G-LSAB is still based at LBA
G-LSAK is still based at LBA

But what has confused me is NCL's other B757, positioned down to LBA last night. G-LSAM as LS041A flew down at around 2215hrs and as far as I am aware no B757 positioned back-up and is currently operating the this mornings 257 Palma service.

Can anyone help me understand?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

jet 2 have a charter operating out of lba tmZ morning to viena which i believe is going on AK

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Hi

For anyone that needs it Jet2's, Boeing 757-200WL, G-LSAM (In Jet2Holiday Colours) is currently LBA based.

She positioned in from Newcastle last night as LS41A and has operated this mornings LS257/258 Palma rotations and will then go onto operate this afternoon's LS217 service to Arrecife-Lanzarote.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

A RAF hawk fighter has just done a low level approach over the runway

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Thank you very much; Dan77, Jonathon3515 and Lbaspotter. Do we know who she is operating for throughout the winter then?

I think G-LSAM is the non-wingleted aircraft as well Lbaspotter as it is G-LSAL that is wingletted.

Do we know when AL/AM will be leaving the Jet2 fleet and where Jet2 will source the other 2 757's from?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I'm told there are a total of 5 Hajj pilgrimage flights coming up. I understand the first will be on the 20 October. From what I gather Jet2 will be operating all the flights.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Sounds like a good revenue stream for Jet2 again this year. I am flying out on a Jet2 757 on the LS185 Malaga flight and return 10 days later, so fingers crossed the Hajj charters will be operated in the evening and I won't get caught up in all the chaos...!

Just to let people know, I saw G-LSAM depart this evening whilst on a run with a friend in Hawksworth and when I checked on the LBA Deps/Arrs board it didn't show anything. I used my good friend flightradar when I got back and it looks like G-LSAM positioned out of LBA as LS046A at around 1833hrs this evening. I followed the flight through and it looks to have positioned up to NCL to help out there as LBA doesn't require all 3 757's tomorrow.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
