[textarea]TAP announce Manchester – Lisbon flights

TAP Portugal has announced plans for a new route from Manchester Airport to its hub in Lisbon.

The airline will initially offer five weekly flights from Manchester to the Portuguese capital, increasing to six for the summer season. The new route is one of six announced by the flag carrier yesterday.

TAP Have obviously had a successful summer at MAN.

Words are the route has exceeded expectations, and as a result, they are upping to daily flights with a mix of A319 and A320 equipment:

Valid 29/05/2012

TP322 LIS 1505 MAN 1745 Wed, Fri, Sat A320
TP323 MAN 1830 MAN 2110 Wed, Fri Sat A320

TP324 LIS 0800 MAN 1040 Mon, Tue, Thu, Sun A319
TP321 MAN 1125 LIS 1405 Mon, Tue, Thu, Sun A319

Not bookable on website yet but showing in MAN timetable.

TAP have announced that MAN-LIS will go up to daily from October.

That might explain the advertisement campaign they have going at the moment.

Well, Spain may have beat Portugal in the Euro's last night, but TAP have certainly beat Iberia at MAN.

Whilst IB are pulling MAN-MAD in September, TAP have announced that MAN will go 10 times weekly next Summer, citing increasing demand for South America.

Extra flights will be on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, using A319 equipment.

Shows how incompetent IB were at MAN!

Oh god yeah, he really did. Didn't even get to take a penalty bless him.

The increases mentioned further up are now confirmed on TAP website:

TAP324 LIS 0745 MAN 1025
TAP329 MAN 1110 LIS 1350

A319 Daily but A321 used on Sundays.

TAP322 LIS 1350 MAN 1630
TAP323 MAN 1715 LIS 1955

F100 Thurs, Fri and Sun

Now bookable on flytap.com and GDS systems.

TAP are going from strength to strength at MAN, and have some more increases this summer:

Saturdays see the A320 instead of A319

Sundays sees the A321 in the morning, and an A320 in the afternoon. Previously the afternoon flight was supposed to be an F100.

In terms of 2014, the flights will be daily for the winter 2013/2014 (up from 5/6 weekly for the winter just gone), and then return to 10 weekly in April (10 weekly is from June this year, so next year the increase comes 2 months early).

Lastly, TAP will go 12 weekly for summer 2014. No exact date given but quote comes direct from UK general manager of TAP.

Some more good news.

MAN-LIS on TAP is now bookable at 12 weekly from April 2014, up from 10 weekly.

TP329 is daily
TP323 is 5 weekly Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun.

It seems to be a mix of pretty much any aircraft they can get their hands on although seems to be far more airbus than F100.

Seems Manchester is getting a few increases this winter, all which help address the seasonality imbalance.

Next up with the confirmed increases is TAP.

Lisbon-Manchester is 11 weekly this winter compared to daily last year.

TP324 LIS 0705 MAN 1000 MTWTFSS A319/A320
TP329 MAN 1045 LIS 1335 MTWTFSS A319/A320

TP322 LIS 1405 MAN 1700 --WTF-S A319
TP323 MAN 1745 LIS 2035 --WTF-S A319

Flights are bookable on all platforms including TAP website.

It's encouraging that MAN's winter offering is continuing to strengthen. Smaller regional airports, whose summer/winter balance is even more skewed in many cases, seem to be struggling to achieve even the tiniest amount of movement towards winter operations and that includes airports like LBA and BRS that have been doing quite well in recent years but which are heavily biased towards summer.

TAP will run a full 2 daily schedule next summer, up from 11 weekly:

I was worried Ryanair starting 4 weekly Lisbon and then increasing to 5 weekly quite quickly would really damage TAP, but, appears they are not giving in that easy.

What's encouraging, Ryanair usually capacity dump to fight off airlines, but, at Manchester particularly, there have not yet been any major casualties by them capacity dumping on routes. I do say, not yet, however, as its Manchester, it's bound to get the 'Madrid syndrome' at some point!

Great to see TAP expanding at MAN, hopefully they will notice BHX at some point in the near future.

Surely its a no brainer ?????

TAP will increase to 14 weekly from the 28th March, adding the second daily flights on Mon, Tue and Sat.

From 10th June, a 3rd daily will be added on Wed, Fri and Sun, which looks to be a night stopper, arriving 2105 and departing 0710 the next day. Looks like an E190/F100 will operate those flights.

Flights will be bookable soon.

A 4 weekly Oporto is also being looked at with the E190.

That's good. The Oporto route is a slightly late development for me this year I think!!

It says above the frequency for TAP flights is 2 daily all of this year yet I have just looked on the star alliance website for the times of these flights and for this coming week it indicates 1 daily 319? Is this the frequency for a certain time or is it not showing other flights?

Has the night stopover and Oporto options been shelved even for next summer?

It also says with effect of 30th October the LIS flight will be operated by the Embraer 190 presumably TAP Express although it is back to 319 mainline from 24th Jan 17.

Anyone have any idea about the LFs for this route and how many passengers are connecting/o&d?

TAP had got up to 10/11 flights weekly as I recall and were expected/planned to go double daily.
In the event, along with some cutbacks elsewhere, MAN went back to daily with just the late afternoon flight.

Were you looking at the MAN web site timetables that gave 2 x daily? Unless they've improved, I found them generally a bit unreliable, particularly over dates of operation as periods often overlapped giving the impression sometimes of 2 flights by the same airline at the same or very similar time.

Land23R, no I was using the star alliance app. When did this cutback happen as very recently I remember morning flights on Sat/Sun etc.?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
