nwoody2001 I would say we are certainly seeing an increase over Summer 2015. AVG, BES and DOL were low frequency and only for a short season. So a year-round extra weekday STR for example would counter more than the loss of those routes. I do seem to remember that AVN and BES were released later last year.

BHX-TXL is only twice daily Mon, Wed and Friday so increased from 7 to 10 a week.

I see what you say and its good to see that with the exception of 'please take our E195' bases, flybe seem to be consolidating back on strong core business routes.

I just ask for a rundown as im trying to keep track on how many new weekly rotations we'll have at BHX next summer...

we know BHX will be getting an extra E195, and with the closure of bases such as Bournemouth, it looks like we'll be getting some extra capacity... but how much!

On a wider note, it seems whatever deal MAG was able to strike with Flybe that saw the start of routes from Bournemouth and Stansted appears to be over. Bournemouth base is to close, and Stansted operations are to halve with the loss of NCL and IOM leaving only NQY and DND

In other Flybe BHX news, the following routes are also back:

Brest (4pw)
Avignon (3pw)

this means that DOL is the only victim for next summer???

It was suggested at the time that the Deauville route may have come about through incentives from the airport. I have no idea if that is true but if it is then it could decide whether it returns next year.

In terms of growth I'll have a go but am happy to be corrected.

Winter:

ABZ +1
AMS +1
DUS +1
EDI +1
GLA +1
STR +1 M-F
HAJ +1
Milan +8 per week
TXL extra Sat flight.

Total extra 54 weekly.

Summer:

The above remain and we see extra weekly EGC, 5 weekly TXL, extra weekly BIQ, extra 6 weekly NOC, extra 5 weekly MXP, extra 12 weekly RTM. BOD is down 1 weekly and if DOL doesn't return then that's 2x weekly (?) down.

Total extra 27 weekly + 54 from winter makes an 81 extra flights?

Sound about right?

Well according the Flybe press release in December 14 about their Summer 15 schedule, they announced they would operate 25 routes and operated 336 flights per week.

With what has been discussed above, It would appear that flybe will be operating 26 routes in summer 16 but with an increase of 81 flights takes that to 417 weekly flights, growth of circa 25% similar growth to Ryanair!!!

Flybe offered circa 1,350,000 seats out of BHX in 2015. if a growth of circa 25% is on the cards, this could be an additional 350,000 seats annually from Flybe and lift their total to circal 1,700,000 seats out of BHX next year! This could be pretty big if true!

That is a considerable amount of growth, although I'd feel happier if someone could double check my estimations. I think we also have to factor in extra use of the E195 which offers more seats. I don't know if there are any gaps in the schedule where they may be able to squeeze in a new route, I guess we'll wait for the official press release.

Good stuff from Flybe and more than I expected from Ryanair, we just need something from Norwegian now.

This is great news for BHX from Flybe. Lots and lots of extra seats will be available.

The one route that im really chuffed with is Berlin, it is now really starting to grow for Flybe, must be quite a popular route for them now and just goes to show that all these cities that have been "non existent" on the BHX departure boards are really crying out for airlines to try and give them a go. I think TXL is one such route, the other being MAD.

The article below suggests 396 flights per week which is below my guess but still represents a significant increase of 20% or so and gives an accurate total of approx 1,620,000 seats :smile:

Project Blackbird doesn't make any sense to me. Flybe are looking for homes for their surplus E195s so they choose Cardiff, Doncaster and Norwich!

No offence to Norwich, but how can they expect to fill an E195 (which is how they'll get their money's worth for the extra fuel burn) from an airport which never sees anything larger than a Dornier 328 (since they stopped using Dash 8s)?

I have a feeling that the E195s won't stay at those airports for very long. For goodness sakes Flybe, just send the E195s where they'll be consistently filled with passengers now, and actually get some money back on those thirsty jets. Last time I looked you had 20-odd Dash 8s on order--why not send some of those there instead?

You may be right but you overlook one fundamental element. The likely reason the jets have gone to those airports is likely because those airports have likely paid for them! We know the welsh government had a generous route development fund which attracted flybe and I suggest so did DSA, NOR and NQY, either in the form of development funds or government subsidies. Consequently, if flybe are getting such money to cover the cost of the E195, it doesn't matter how full they are, they are paid for!!!!

Flybe Summer 2016 BHX Press Realease

So Summer 16 has 26 routes and 396 flights per week (a little lower than the 418 I calculated with the timetable) in comparison to Summer 15 which saw 25 routes and 336 flights per week. An increase of 60 flights per week over the summer season is a pretty impressive jump, and whilst I appreciate the replacement of some of the E195s with Q400 will have an impact, I still this is likely a record with regard to number of flights per week from Flybe at BHX. Its also worth noting the BHX-NOC is not 6x weekly as originally reported but daily!

I suppose my question is now, what based aircraft does this require and how many E195s, E175s and Q400s do we have compared to last year!

Still pretty heathly growth, through more in the 15-20% region than the 25% region I suggested!!!

Another point to make is that RYR are claiming to offer 1.75m seats out of BHX next year. This year Flybe offered circa 1.35m seats out of BHX, so with the increase in summer next year, what sort of provision with Flybe be offering for 2016??? Will RYR overtake Flybe as BHXs largest carrier???

Berlin TXL

I have noticed today that Flybe have 3 flights, yes 3 flights to/from Berlin TXL. Is this normal for a saturday or is it to do with the christmas markets in Germany which are very popular ????

Even so, it is great to see this route grow after years and years of no flights to Berlin.

Brum X, that is good news. But is it possible, just possible, that there might be demand from Germans to visit Birmingham??? I say this because i have noticed on several flights from Italy and Holland into BHX that a high proportion of the pax are, indeed, from those countries.

Indeed it could be both, after all Birmingham is also a popular city to visit for Christmas.

BHX-TXL up to 3 Saturday flights in the run up to christmas.

Interesting, great to see Berlin given some increases.

Is it that Germans have realised that they can come to a German Market in Birmingham or is Berlin a popular christmas market destination ????? Maybe both are popular for Germans and English

The BHX destination list on Wiki shows Flybe ending the Isle of Man operation on March 26 when it will presumably be handed over to Stobart Air (although Stobart seem to be operating all the flights right now anyway). No source is given and I would appreciate it if someone could confirm.

Yeah Stobart are doing all of the Flybe flights from the Isle of Man now (except some STN I think?). They're using ATR's but the ones I've seen have been in the purple Flybe livery.
