I think Luxembourg was released later than other routes for this summer so it may yet appear.

After Rotterdam was dropped it meant we had a spare Dash 8 for a good part of the day, it's just a shame they didn't employ it on a 2x daily Hamburg. Berlin and Stuttgart seem to be working at that frequency so I don't see why they couldn't make HAM work.

Why did BE409 from Belfast divert to Coventry today? Seen a few Flybe turboprops divert to Coventry even when weather seems OK. Was crosswind above limit at BHX?

I have noticed that as well but]think its just an anomaly on FR24 if that where you've seen it.The aircraft do land at BHX. It might be something to do with the FLYBE tracks on FR24 always ending a few miles short of the airport.

Yes it has been on FR24. The track was much closer to CVT than BHX but it did hit the end of the runway at an angle.

Just had a closer look and FR24 lost track of the plane over Kenilworth. Not sure why they thought it landed at CVT.

It's more than likely an FR25

It's becoming common at CWL the aircraft keep diverting to St Athan and the other week Swansea. It's probably because when it loses track they are the closest airports but I'm only guessing.

I've seen it suggested elsewhere that this is the case. When they get below a certain altitude the tracking can be lost so it predicts where they landed.

It doesn't suggest why we went through a phase of SAS aircraft showing as 'diverted to Gloucester' :cautious:

The tracks for all FLYBE and some other aircraft like the smaller freighters always stop or start a few miles from the airport.I guess it is something to do with equipment on board but it is a shame as it often distorts the queue of aircraft
on approach.I'm sure somebody on here knows the reason.

I actually emailed FR24 about this a few months ago, its basically because most newer and larger aircraft use an ADS-B transponder and these are more accurate on FR24, and should be able to track the aircraft even when its on the ground.

Aircraft that are not ADS-B equipped are tracked on FR24 by using MLAT which is nowhere as efficient, and flights can only be tracked above 3000 ft. Once the aircraft decends below 3000ft, FR24 automatically assumes it lands at the nearest airfield its heading too, so when turning downwind on 33 it appears the aircraft is heading to Coventry not BHX! FR24 are aware of this, but I don't think they can do much about it until all aircraft have ADS-B.

Older aircraft like the classic 737's, old 757s (TOM), DC9s and all Flybe aircraft are not ADS-B equipped so are not 100% accurate on FR24

and of course Coventry airport does not have fire cover, customs etc.. to handle any commercial passenger flights any more!

for more information about FR24 see this link :- https://www.flightradar24.com/how-it-works

hope this helps!

New press release on BHX news:

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has expanded its 2017-18 Winter schedule from Birmingham with new flights to Newquay operating for the first time over the busy Christmas and New Year period.
flybe.jpg

Seats are available for booking now alongside the full schedule at www.flybe.com with one way fares from £24.99 including taxes and airport charges and effective for travel between 22nd December 2017 and 1st January 2018.

With a flight time of just 60 minutes, customers can avoid the traditional gridlock on the roads that is synonymous with this busy time of the year. Flights are ideally timed for those looking to spend the festive holiday period away from the busy city. Newquay is as equally popular as the holiday gateway to Cornwall in the winter months as in the summer.

Full details of Flybe’s 2017/18 Winter schedule is available at www.flybe.com

Good to see Newquay going winter. Did read somewhere, forgotten where, that the Cornwall airport was confident of becoming a year round destination. Good news both ends of the flight.

as expected or as hoped? I don't think we can expect anything from the airline industry these days....

great news though. what frequency did eurowings have?

Eurowings finished on 3 weekly, but a 4 weekly E175/Dash-8 should be about the same as a 3 weekly A320.

Thanks for the info User001

Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun is not exactly brilliant for urgent business travel but they are perfect times for city break travelers.

Its also good that having just announced a fleet reduction strategy is out to commence, Flybe are expending at BHX on new routes (assuming other routes have not been chopped as a consequence) ..cant be a bad sign!

Those 4 days are probably the best days for a business and leisure mix, if flybe could only do 4 weekly to begin with.

Business can do Mon-Wed or Mon-Fri, leisure can do Fri-Sun or wed-fri for best results.

One does wonder where the capacity has come from though, these flights start in just over 1 month so if Flybe had that much slack in the system to add these flights with relative ease, no wonder they are facing issues financially?

I wonder if its slack in the timetable with the likes of short-lived and quite high frequency routes like Rotterdam (12 weekly) and Luxemburg (Daily) coming to an end?

Might be left over slack from Rotterdam, although I thought LUX finishes at the end of the summer timetable in Oct?

It does but its gone from daily to 3/4x weekly I believe ... also assuming its been cancelled and wont just go seasonal

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
