[textarea]Flybe / Air France codeshare offers more long haul connections from Birmingham

Fourteen new long-haul routes and more frequent connections from Birmingham Airport will mean more choice for the region's travellers next year. Air France has joined with Flybe to offer six daily flights from Birmingham to Paris’s Charles De Gaulle Airport, with seamless onward connections to new long-haul destinations via a codeshare agreement.

The new long haul routes accessible via Birmingham Airport include Bata in Equatorial Guinea, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Freetown in Sierra Leone and Monrovia in Liberia. A spokesman said that half of passengers flying from Birmingham to Paris take onward flights.

BHX-Hamburg seems to finish on Sunday 9th September.

It was always going to struggle against a double daily Lufthansa service, apparently loads have been awful.

Hopefully we'll see a new route in it's place.

Very good news. Should make up for the loss of Baby

Andrew Strong, Flybe UK Managing Director comments: “Flybe is committed to developing its route network out of Birmingham and we have every confidence that our new service with its convenient timings will prove successful in offering an attractive and affordable way for travellers to access this vital international hub.”

Martyn Lloyd, Commercial Director, Birmingham Airport, said: ”Amsterdam is an important route for both business and leisure travellers and last year it was the third busiest destination from Birmingham. Flybe is a strong brand and has a successful product which I’m sure will be perfect for this route so we’re extremely pleased that the carrier will be starting daily services from the winter period.”

Adds Mr Strong: “The introduction of Flybe’s new route will further complement our already extensive schedule that features a total of 24 routes and a choice of up to 586 flights each week and we look forward to welcoming our first Amsterdam passengers on board.”

The French regional routes (Avignon, Brest, Bergerac, La Rochelle and Perpignan) haven't yet appeared in next summers schedule, although in recent years they have gone on sale later than the rest so there's still hope.

Dubrovnik is the glaring omission which operated from May onwards this year. Maybe the new Monarch service affected loads so much it's now been pulled for next year.

Flybe always seem to be late announcing their summer routes. I don't know if it's to do with scheduling or whether they're waiting to see what their competitors are doing.

Loganair withdrawing from Dundee from Dec 2nd, BHX and BHD services canx.

LOGANAIR TO WITHDRAW DUNDEE SERVICES FROM DECEMBER

Loganair has today announced it is to withdraw its scheduled services from Dundee Airport from early December in response to declining passenger demand.

Services from Dundee to Belfast City and Birmingham will cease on Sunday 2 December. Passengers will be offered alternative flights through Loganair’s franchise partner flybe, or a full refund.

Loganair will retain its aviation engineering base at the city’s airport. There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of today’s announcement.

A Loganair spokesman said: “It is with great regret that we announce today, Wednesday 24 October 2012, the withdrawal of services from Dundee Airport to Belfast and Birmingham.

“We will continue to operate the two routes until Sunday, December 2, 2012.

“Customers who have made bookings to travel on these services after this date will be entitled to either change their flights to an equivalent routing with Loganair franchise partner Flybe, or receive a full refund via the travel agent or airline where the original reservation was made.

“The Belfast and Birmingham services have been in operation since May 2008. During this time Loganair, in partnership with Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) and Dundee City Council, has made every effort possible to boost connectivity to and from the region while operating these routes.

“The reality is, however, that since launching these services almost four and a half years ago, declining passenger numbers have led to the Belfast and Birmingham routes becoming unsustainable.

“This is very disappointing news for everyone concerned and we would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere apologies to our valued customers for any inconvenience these changes may cause.

“Loganair’s commitment to the region will continue with the retention of our aviation engineering base at Dundee Airport, while those staff members immediately affected by this announcement will be offered continued employment within the airline. There will be no compulsory redundancies amongst our staff.”

Inglis Lyon, Managing Director of Dundee Airport operator HIAL, said: “We are naturally disappointed at this announcement. We have done everything in our
power to support and promote these routes, through joint marketing efforts and by
working with Loganair to reduce their operating costs.

“However, passenger demand was simply too low – at a time of strong competition –
to make these routes commercially viable. Ultimately, routes can only survive if
there is sufficient inbound and outbound demand.

“Clearly, the loss of two scheduled services will have a serious impact on passenger
levels at Dundee, at a time when numbers were beginning to rally. We are
committed to providing more choice for local passengers and we are already in
discussion with airlines about new route opportunities. Market conditions are tough
but we will do everything we can to provide alternative services for passengers.”

Dundee Convener of City Development, Will Dawson said: "We share the
disappointment at the loss of this route which appears to be uneconomic during
these difficult financial times.

The city council is currently working with the Scottish
Government and HIAL to research and review possible new routes."

I take it Logan air operated the route on behalf of Flybe? It a shame the route wasn't performing but it comes as no shock. The government just isn't supporting domestic routes at the moment and the APD is crippling routes such as this.

Yeah they operate in Flybe colours. No surprises really, very expensive tickets with loads in single figures somedays.

I'd almost given up hope but some french regional routes have now appeared. Avignon, Bergerac, Brest, La Rochelle and Perpignan.

Bergerac 4x weekly in the summer.
Brest 3x weekly.
La Rochelle 2x weekly.
Avignon weekly.
Perpignan weekly.

Well after the earlier announcement from bmi regional that they are starting BHX-Lyon Flybe now have it bookable 6x weekly from May 1st. It is surprising that they didn't try last year after Air France dropped it. I just hope it's not overkill on the route and that we don't now go from nothing to two and back to nothing again.

Flybe announces new year round daily service between Birmingham and Lyon

Leading regional airline expands route network from Birmingham with daily flights to key French regional destination

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has today announced its latest brand new route from Birmingham that offers daily weekday flights to Lyon from May 1st operated by one of Flybe’s brand new 88-seat Embraer 175 jet aircraft. Fares are available for booking now at www.flybe.com with special introductory fares available from £39.99 one way including taxes and charges.

The brand new year round service follows Flybe’s successful launch of its Birmingham to Amsterdam route late last year and is expected to benefit similarly a mix of business and leisure passengers. Lyon is the largest conurbation in France after Paris and offers a wealth of opportunities being not only a major centre for the banking, chemical, bio and pharmaceutical sectors but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and renowned capital of all things gastronomic.

Simon Lilley, Flybe’s Director of Marketing comments: “Flybe is committed to developing its route network out of Birmingham. We have every confidence that this additional new service will prove successful in offering an attractive and affordable way for travellers to access this major business and popular leisure destination.”

Adds Mr Lilley: “Our new weekday service to Lyon will further complement our already extensive schedule to and from Birmingham Airport that now features a total of 23 routes and a total choice of up to 598 flights each week. Flybe aims to ‘Make flying better’ for its customers and we look forward to welcoming our first Lyon passengers on board our new jet service in May.”

It looks as if Flybe are sending a 195 up to EDI with a 175 coming the other way. This means three of the EDI departures now drop from 118 seats to 88 which is surprising as since they got the route all to themselves prices have been astronomical at times but still very healthy load factors. Still looks to be ten based.

Conformation of the above.

Flybe has announced it is to operate a new route between Birmingham and Ireland West Airport Knock four days a week from October 27th, 2013 with seats on sale at www.flybe.com from £39.99 one way including taxes and charges.

Commenting on the announcement, Head of Public Relations Niall Duffy said, “Flybe is absolutely delighted to launch this new route to Ireland West Airport Knock at the start of the 2013-14 winter season. Given that we are already the biggest airline at Birmingham Airport, when we learnt of the opportunity to offer the route it was an obvious and natural extension to our network. We look forward to welcoming thousands of new passengers onto the service.”

Flybe Announces Another New Route From Birmingham

Apparently Flybe's strategic review will be announced on November 11th, several rumours doing the rounds some that there will be less focus on BHX and some that there will be expansion. Not long to wait but it'll be interesting to see what's in there.

Flybe seem to be having a recovery now. They've had some restructuring done and the domestic market seems to be picking up slightly at long last.
