A fifth daily AMS flight looks to have been added on Thursdays and Sundays. Just to add to the competition KLM will be all 738's for the summer with only the mid afternoon Saturday flight using an E190.

I don't want to sound negative but this one sounds like the Flybe route planners just through a dart at map of Europe to see where it landed!

Indeed, what is the Flybe Strategy ??? What other new routes will be added to the BHX network, oh well by the end of feb 2015, we may be back to where we were with the number of flybe routes after the Cull the other week. However im getting a bit worried about there direction. I like Flybe and want them to be a success but this doesnt give me much confidence if im being honest.

Oh well we will wait and see.

Good to see this new route though, every little helps when we want to break the 10million barrier next year. :good:

Someone on that other forum suggested that the Deauville authorities are very generous with route subsidies. Flybe is also to commence DOL routes from Bournemouth and Exeter this summer.

I read that too and it sounds about right, it's not a route most people would have suggested, then again Flybe seem all over the place at the moment so I guess nothing is impossible.

Flybe/Brussels Airlines

Brussels Airlines
Currently showing 4 daily in the week during summer 2015 down from 5. Not a lot of seats lost from 11 May as all flights are showing from then, as the RJ100, which is an extra 17 seats per flight over the Dash.

Cathay Pacific will be code sharing with Flybe through AMS and CDG. I believe this is the first time BHX has seen a CX code share.

Cathay Pacific / flyBe Expands Codeshare Partnership from mid-Jan 2015

Cathay Pacific and flyBe is to commence phase 2 of codeshare partnership, which sees CX code appears on flyBe service between the UK and Amsterdam, as well as between the UK and Paris CDG. Following codeshare routes will begin from 12JAN15.

Amsterdam – Birmingham
Amsterdam – Southampton
Paris CDG – Birmingham
Paris CDG – Exeter
Paris CDG – Manchester

As per the CX press release Ray:
It also marks the first time for Birmingham, Britain’s second-biggest city, to be included as part of the Cathay Pacific network.

Considering what a black hole BHX has been for Oneworld, it is refreshing to see that for 2015 the departure boards will be displaying BA, AA, IB, AY, QF and now CX codes. We must be well and truly "on the radar" for the alliance now.

Definitely, considering this time last year there was nothing at all it's a step forwards with the biggest step of all being the return of AA. It would be nice to turn one or two more of the code shares into actual flights over the next year or two :)

New year,same old story.
Good news day tomorrow re Icelandair backed up by more axed routes from FlyBe.
Oslo,Porto,Toulouse,Knock(Ireland West Airport) and Waterford all being dropped.
I don't know what FlyBe is trying to achieve but it certainly won't achieve it at BHX that is for certain :shok:

But that is an old news story, we knew about that back in November, Ray was not in a happy mood i recall very well. A few days later Norweigan announced there new routes and he was a happy man again. This is BHX after all.

Yes you are quite right.
I just happened to be reading the online version of the Birmingham Mail and it was on there.
I assumed it was a more up to date story than it actually was.

And although the above news was bad news, Flybe are still big at BHX. They have kept Berlin Tegal, increased Amsterdam and Jersey and we have some new French Routes so they are not totally dead atm.

Yes, I do remember an evening where my dummy was well and truly spat across the room

There's pluses and minuses about having Flybe as your main palyer. The E175's with 88 seats are perfect for some routes where a 738 might be overkill but at the same time they are very range limited as we've seen with Florence recently. I think they still have a very important role to play at BHX and hope they continue to do well but I think BHX need to keep Norwegian sweet for the big growth.

Looking at the recent article about Flybe dropping the routes the airport seem to think Flybe will still be basing the same number of aircraft as last summer?

A spokesperson for the airport said it was in discussions with other airlines in a bid to continue services to the five destinations.

She said: “Flybe’s decision to suspend some routes from Birmingham follows a routine review of its network, which has also led to two new routes being launched to Biarritz and Corsica.

Flybe will continue to operate the same number of aircraft at Birmingham and serve 24 routes, with more capacity on popular routes including Amsterdam, Berlin, Edinburgh and Stuttgart so that passengers have more choice on these business and leisure routes.

“This decision will have no impact on jobs at Birmingham.

“We are continually discussing routes with partner airlines and hope to be able to fill Flybe’s cancelled routes.”

Flybe say they are discussing with other carriers to replace the lost routes, with Waterford, Reykjavik, Alicante, Palma and Hamburg taken care of already, here are my opinions on who might fill in on the others but feel free to offer your own.
Oslo is a no-brainer. Norwegian all the way.
Knock is a bit more difficult but I think our best bet is to get Stobart Air back on it.
Porto will be hard. TAP and Ryanair come to mind but neither are likely.
Florence performed well and if it returns I think it should be with Cityjet who fly there from LCY.
Toulouse is difficult, I can't see Air France or HOP! coming, maybe Easyjet might do it if we can get them interested in BHX at all, which I doubt.
Cologne is most likely to be Germanwings or Eurowings.

Otherwise, if Flybe's situation improves they could always reintroduce flights.

Oslo - Agree it has to be Norwegian.

Knock - I can only see Ryanair or a Flybe return.

Porto - Definitely only Ryanair but I think it'll be a long time before we see it again.

Florence - Depending on Vueling's plans for BHX I think I could be a good summer route for them. They have a base in Florence and a couple of flights per week could be ideal.

Toulouse - Can't see Air France, if they do ever start another destination I think it would be Lyon. This route seemed to work best when Flybe had it at 5x weekly. It's come and gone over the years so I wouldn't rule out a Flybe return.

Cologne - How many times has it been tried? I think it's gone for good.

I also reckon Hamburg and Hanover both need another flight, once daily isn't exactly business friendly. Hopefully Flybe can be convinced to bring the frequency back.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
