Anyone know why Easyjet has stopped flying from London to Newcastle AND more importantly if any low cost airline is taking over? Trying to book a return ticket from London to Newcastle and Easyjet have stopped flights after March!!

Presumably because the route no longer makes the money for easyJet it once did.

The airline has been cutting back its operation at Newcastle for a while (I think there might only be three based aircraft there this year) which might seem a little odd given that two or three years ago Newcastle was specially mentioned in the company's annual report as being one of the more successful bases.

There is an ongoing general reduction in domestic air traffic across the country as, for various reasons, people are turning to land-based transport.

I've not heard whether any other 'lowcost' airline might step in. Jet2 might be a candidate if one was to emerge.

Didn't Ryanair try this route before? I can't imagine another airline coming in to operate the route if easyjet can't make it work.

I have been flying every month fro NCL - STN and each flight has been FULL. I cannot understand why Easyjet have pulled the plug. The only thing that comes to mind is that they haven't been able to successfully make a profit on their 'in-flight' sales. Like the previous post says, Easyjet had commended that NCL was a more profitable base. Saying that though, there has been a lot of whispers regarding loans that fund the airport, a certain South Tyneside Labour councillor and millions in bonuses.......say no more!

I couldn't believe it when i found out that there will be no more flights especially as i live up here now and i totally rely on flying back to stansted to see my family and friends now . I first started flying from Stansted to Newcastle in 2005 to see my then boyfriend who is now my husband who is a northerner. Apparently what i heard is that one of my husbands friends that works at newcastle airport said that easyjet were getting rid of that destination because they didn't seem to be making enough money and didn't get the customers. I can't understand that though because whenever i got on a flight from Newcastle to Stansted it was always busy. I really hope another budget airline takes it over otherwise it will mean having to get the train down and don't really want to do that.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
