[textarea]Air Jamaica to return to Heathrow in July
Air Jamaica is to resume flying to Heathrow three times a week from July. Jamaica's minister of tourism Edmund Bartlett told delegates at CHTA Marketplace that the recent merger with Trinidadian-owned Caribbean Airlines has now been 'formalised', freeing up the Heathrow slots.
Air Jamaica will now focus on the leisure market and CAL would concentrate on business travel. The new flight will be direct from Heathrow to Montego Bay. It will be the first time since 2007 the airline has flown direct from Heathrow, after Air Jamaica sold its slots at the London airport to Virgin Atlantic and switched its operations to Gatwick.
Mr Bartlett confirmed that Air Jamaica has recently purchased seven new aircraft, and that he expects a Boeing 777 to be used on the Heathrow route.
