That's a late launch, even for the Chinese.

They currently operate to the "old" Chengdu Airport CTU.

The idea is that the new Tianfu airport will become the cities international airport, whilst the "old" airport will become a purely domestic one.

Whilst it's "technically" a new route, its more akin to switching airports, a bit like Air India switching some of their London flights from Heathrow to Gatwick.
