[textarea]IAG announces Airbus A320 orders Airbus A320

The new planes are due to be delivered between 2015 and 2020

International Airlines Group (IAG), which owns British Airways and Iberia, has announced orders and options for up to 220 Airbus A320 aircraft.

IAG said up to 120 of the planes were for its Spanish airline Vueling, with 62 firm orders and 58 options.

The planes ordered have a list price of about $5.4bn (£3.5bn), although IAG said it had agreed a "substantial discount" on the list price.

This news comes only days after BA and IAG boss Willie Walsh said "we're coming after the low cost airlines" I think it's likely we'll see new bases for the airline over the next 18 months.

International Airlines Group, the owner of British Airways and Spain's Iberia, has ruled out any further acquisitions in Europe for now as it sees better value elsewhere.

Willie Walsh, the IAG chief executive, told the World Low Cost Airlines Congress in London: “We don’t see anything attractive to buy or merge with in Europe at the moment.”

Mr Walsh, who is still grappling with the turnaround of Iberia, set up IAG in January 2011 via the £5.7bn all-share merger between BA and the Spanish airline.

British Airways’ parent company IAG has urged the European Union to block Alitalia’s €500 million rescue package because it has been put together by the Italian government.

Alitalia had been on the brink of bankruptcy until the package of extra funding was agreed on Friday.

[textarea]British Airways owner IAG sees profits rise

International Airways Group (IAG), owner of British Airways, has reported a jump in profits, helped by a recovery at its Spanish airline Iberia.

IAG's shares closed up 8% after it reported pre-tax profits for the July-to-September quarter of 609m euros (£507m), up from 237m euros a year ago.

Profits at Iberia were 74m euros in the quarter, compared with 1m euros in the same period in 2012.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
