Just out of interest, why did they go to Heathrow instead of BHX or a closer airport?
Obviously, Shannon or Dublin could have been used in an extreme emergency.
AS for LHR, I would presume a couple of reasons. Firstly I would imagine that AA keep a significant amount of spares at LHR, along with engineers or they have access to BA stock and facilities.
Secondly, if the 757 went tech and was unable to continue to JFK, the pax could be transferred to other AA or BA flights.
Also, the AA BHX-JFK service is to end soon. Would that affect their decision?

Maybe the crew thought if we're going home as passengers its not going to be on this load of junk?
:hilarious:

On a more serious note, another thought was crew hours. I believe that the flight was delayed 3 hours. The flight crew would have been on duty possibly 2 hours prior to this. They were then in the air for what appears to be at around 2 hours (so that's 7 hours, with further time on the ground at LHR and then a 7 hour trip to JFK). I would imagine that AA have backup crew available at LHR and whilst AA 757's don't seem to be common visitors, I believe that crews can hold 757/767 ratings.

We've had three diversions in from Bristol.

Easyjet A320 G-EZUL from Geneva
Easyjet A319 G-EZTK from Glasgow
Thomas Cook A321 G-TCDW from Las Palmas

This mornings United looks to have got as far as Nova Scotia before it turned back to EWR. It's now expected around 13:10.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
