Thanks Local. It was a nice few days away staying in Denia, friends who moved out there last year after taking early retirement. I will be using Vueling again without hesitation.

Winter 2016-2017

I believe that there will be an increase in flights this winter to both Alicante and Malaga (3 x weekly to both).

It's a bit disappointing then that Barcelona seems to remain a summer-only route. Vueling came later to MAN, BHX and LBA than to CWL yet are offering BCN through the coming winter from the other three airports mentioned.

Hi Local. It is a shame that VY are not offering BCN over the winter months from CWL. IU just wonder whether they in VY think there is no call for it during the quieter months of the winter. It'll be interesting to see the loads on this route throughout the summer months

Problems

Lots of discussion on aviation forums and elsewhere in recent days about Vueling having major problems with cancelled and seriously delayed flights, and subbing other aircraft. It's reportedly the talk of the Catalonian press this weekend with reports that the Catalonian government has summoned Vueling for a meeting to explain itself. There are suggestions of pilot shortages.

I'm not sure how much CWL has been impacted although today the Barcelona flight due in at 1435 and out at 1510 is currently showing an arrival time of 0150 and a departure at 0225.

It's not only Vueling. In one of the BRS threads there is an ongoing discussion about easyJet cancelling flights because of a shortage of available crew. At a time when there is so much uncertainty about so many things, not least how civil aviation will be affected in the UK, there couldn't have been a worse time for this disruption.

Vueling were using Titan aircraft to cover CWL last week. Think it was a 757. Big delays like that aren't good for CWL considering many welsh people view the airport in a negative light.

Thanks Jerry, good to see you posting and welcome to the forums.

The Vueling problems are very worrying. I don't think the main problem is with the delays itself it's the bad image they bring to the brand, VY have done very very well to bring awareness and build up a very good product from Cardiff and the current problems aren't going to help at all, hopefully this can be sorted very quickly, it's interesting to see some of the air frames operating for them atm... CS-TRN 763 of Euro Atlantic for one I've noticed over the last few day

apologies to lack of posting been a hectic few weeks !

Welcome along Jerry :)

Good to see you back but we went through a fairly quiet period on most airport forums after the referendum result. I think people are still trying to work out the ramifications for airlines and airports, hoping that the renaissance in many places, including CWL, following the recession won't be impacted negatively.

Good point Yokel, although I still can't see us leaving the EU in the long run, hopefully nothing too negative happens Though, has been an excellent an excellent couple of years for the industry UK wide. On a different note The VY BCN flight finally departed st 02:58 this morning ...

Thanks! I have heard on another forum that Vueling have had a chaotic weekend with delays all over there network maybe due to a shortage of pilots and a hectic schedule and have been called in front of the Spanish government to explain the chaos that was caused at BCN. Iberia even offered to help them but they turned it down. Todays BCN was only 30 mins late. Hopefully they'll sort it out because they don't want to get a reputation for being late all the time.

Today's Barcelona - Birmingham had a delay of 5 1/2 hours and ended up on a Euro Atlantic 763.

I'm assuming that the issues are only at Barcelona as the flights from Alicante and Tenerife have been pretty normal?

It sounds like it. Maybe crew problems? Lack of pilots? Hence why they seem to be using any ACMI airline that can spare a plane.

They used a Wamos B747-400 yesterday on some flights.

Vueling have crew shortages due to the fact they can't hire any pilots with the cheap wages, and they are also a couple of aircraft down. There has been one A320 stuck at Manchester for the last 3 weeks with a hole in the fuselage.

From the current schemes of things Ray, 5 1/2 hours seems to have been the average delay for most rotations. although with a 30 minute delay compared to yesterday's 12 hour one hopefully things will settle down a little more, although I have noticed that they've taking an absolute pasting in Spain with regards to these issues.

I was reading something about Vueling earlier on and I been wondering if they will become the low cost airline that CWL is looking for? They have bases in Holland Belgium France Italy and Spain and do routes all over Europe. I'm wondering if in the next couple of years they'll start up bases in the UK?

Well, that's certainly the hope of many CWL users and supporters. I really don't know how likely a base might be in the future but increased rotations on existing routes together with additional routes could easily come about in my view. As we've discussed recently, it could depend on what competition might turn up and how the Vueling management views it.

I also think it might depend on what plans IAG have for Vueling in the UK. Hopefully they'll steadily increase the frequencies and amount of routes they do to make it worthwhile for them and that would probably mean every route they do go daily and a few new routes as well. Fingers crossed over the next couple of years!

Summer 2017

It's now confirmed that all four Vueling routes (Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Barcelona) will operate 4 x weekly next summer. This represents an increase in that all four will commence this schedule at the end of March. Previously Palma and Barcelona didn't start their full schedule until June.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
