Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

I didn't see that one coming but I guess it makes sense from an airport operating perspective. An airport owned by an Airlines has never had a high regard in the industry.

All said, Eastern Airways have worked wonders for Humberside airport and long may there new found success continue.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Passenger figures
There has been a good start to the year with 16775 pax in Jan, +15.9% although there were 24% more flights - which most would have on Helicopters.
:D

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

That's excellent. It just goes to show there is life after MAG! Nice pictures by the way! I've popped one on the sidebar for a couple of days.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

I think the local approach has helped regarding the New route, however it remains to be seen whether it will be sustainable given the low load factors and number of cancellations recently.

It will be interesting to see whether Bristows New shares result in any further changes, though clearly as far as helicopter developments are concerned I would think that as a certainty.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

SAS HUY-CPH

A poster on another forum says this route will end on 7 April. It doesn't seem to be bookable on the SAS website after then. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

That's a shame but it's probably true looking at the loads on the route so far.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Will be ashame if it is cut.

However loads have been poor so would not be surprised.

While some may disagree, I would also not be surprised to see CPH-LBA cut too. SAS is not the best airline for low frequency leisure flying, and without a large football following to support the route either, like they have across the pennines, it will struggle to bring the punters in.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Yes appears this is the case.

We could blame poor flight times and the number of cancellations, but in truth it was clearly not being supported enough so comes as no real surprise.

Fortunately it seems KLM may be looking to add a 4th daily rotation again. Passenger numbers shouldn't be affected.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

The official line seems to be that the route is not cancelled but suspended for 6 months. Flights are on sale from end of October 6 x weekly, supposedly the anticipated growth in demand due to offshore wind developments hasn't taken off yet, but Work will be increasing next year..

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

The offshore wind farm was highly publicised in the national press yesterday. The company behind the project claims it will create in the region of 1000 jobs. This is of course good news for the region however, I can't see where sufficient numbers of wind farm related passengers would come from to make the Copenhagen route work if it hasn't worked already.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

The work commencing next year is not directly connected to Siemens (though there are some synergies), and it is the Danish and Scandinavian developments which have been delayed and are to now start next year. I believe it is these that were anticipated to generate much of the demand.

All said, it remains to be seen if the flights happen, or whether the winter schedule has been left on by accident.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

As mentioned in the Leeds forum, it is widely reported in the press the Humberside Copenhagen route is scrapped as opposed to suspended. It's a shame but these things happen. Hopefully the Leeds service will bare more fruits than the Humberside service.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

It appears that way, however I understand more announcements are expected regarding New flights.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Humberside seem to have "bucked the trend" and recorded an increase in passengers, for March, of 10.8% to 17889 and a rolloing year total up 3.9% to 240623.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Thomson are also set to return next year after a prolonged absence. Weekly full season flight to PMI initially.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

Passenger figures for May - 20443 (+7.2%), rolling year - 241018 (+5.4%). Encouraging figures, hopefully they will continue during the ssummer.

Re: Humberside Airport (HUY) - Thread

There must be confidence in the future if these infrastructure developments are any sort of indicator.

I note one is a new hotel. Does this mean that HUY already has an onsite hotel and that this will be another, or will it be the first?

I ask because Bristol Airport which is handling over 6 mppa has not got an onsite hotel. It's been talking about one for many years with many false dawns although it does now look that one might be built at long last.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
