Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Thanks pug. Fingers crossed for both eventualities.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Aparantly flights being removed from the timetable means the route is likely to be pulled..

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

I see Humberside have a charter in the form of MON9014 departing to Rovaniemi tomorrow morning at 0700hrs. G-OZBH (Airbus A321) is currently on approach into HUY after positioning in from London Gatwick as MON014P. She looks to be obviously night-stopping for the flight tomorrow.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Is the new hotel fully up and running yet, and if so does anybody know how well it is performing?

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Yes all up and running, been over a year now I think. Not open to the public thpugh AFAIK but supposidly doing well and looking at a purpose built construction..

Bad news is that ALC seems to be dropped for next year, however MoL is in PMI tomorrow presumably to announce a new base there so hopefully a swap on the cards? HUY isnt the only route to be chopped I dont think..

I've heard that some airports will be reduced in frequency next summer compared with summer 2011 because Ryanair haven't resolved their difficulties with the ALC management re air bridges.

But these were airports that had a daily ALC last summer.

FR have also axed some routes and reduced others on the Riga route following a row about security charges at that airport.

Interesting link re ALC and routes axed/reduced

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Its a shame really as once again a route will be chopped despite doing well from HUY and it will struggle to find a replacement. I can only hope that the stronger relationship with MAG paired with an apparent scaling back at DSA could mean that FR see the potential in HUY for some Med routes next year.. If PMI is to become a big base then it would be good if HUY was on the list due to TOM cutting its last remaining flight from HUY to PMI for next summer. If the BE rumour is true then perhaps a part based E-jet isnt completely out of the question (assuming their cost base isnt prohibitive) that could service AGP and ALC as both destinations have proven themselves with ALC being on a considerably larger aircraft with comparable fares when taking luggage etc into consideration..

Time will tell but as things stand next year is looking even worse for HUY, the Olympics and Euro football certainly wont be doing regional airports any good when looking to grow next year!!

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

List of routes dropped; Bratislava, Brno, Cochstedt, Doncaster, Fez, Gdansk, Humberside, London-Gatwick, Madrid, Marrakech, Palma de Mallorca, Pisa, Poznan, Santander, Sevilla, Treviso, Valladolid and Zaragoza.

Due to external factors once again HUY has lost out.. The route actually did well, and DSA was dropped way before they made a decision on their ALC operations. I dont see the route being replaced barring a miracle.

Could be an opportunity to operate into HUY.

Alicante 3 per week
Barcelona 3 per week
Faro 2 per week

I think they would all work if you ask me, just operate them on a W Route

LBA - BCN - HUY - BCN - LBA

737-300

I assume you mean with Jet2.com? Though I'm sure it would work, I think we will be waiting forever for that..

Strangely though HUY has reappeared on the FR route map (after having been deleted a few days ago). No routes showing from there, however when you go onto the destination profile you get this message..

This destination guide is currently being redeveloped and we hope to bring you new content soon!

Probably nothing, but strange that HUY has reappeared after being removed the other day.

CAA stats for November 2011

17,249 passengers were handled at Humberside Airport in the month, up 6.3% on November 2010, though atms were up 20.9%.

Rolling 12-month figure was 271,221, down 5.2% on a years ago.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Thanks LocalYokel. The improvemenst in both ATM's and passengers seems to be down to CHC winning a contract and resuming operations from the heli-terminal. Sharp declines in that market were down to Bristows winning major contracts over CHC last year, and moving some of their operations to NWI.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Apparantly, HUY has a new MD as of January 1st.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

'Humberside' has said on another forum that the persona behind this is the same as who was behind Nexus at LPL. I dont have much confidence in this getting off the ground, unless they can inject significant funds into marketing.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Fingers crossed nevertheless.

With Vueling announcing AGP and PMI from CWL, and now this, there is at least a stirring of the slumbers in the markets to the smaller regional airports.

Long may it continue and grow.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Holiday booking agent alpharooms.com is to collaborate with start-up airline jetXtra.com, providing accommodation and transfer packages to compliment the new airline’s flight routes.

jetXtra.com will first fly from Humberside airport to Majorca and Malaga airports from 1st June 2012, with details of further scheduled flights and new routes to be released soon. One way flights start from just £69 including hold baggage fees, and all passengers will be offered complimentary snacks and drinks on board.

To celebrate the launch of the new airline, alpharooms.com and jetXtra.com will be teaming up to offer one lucky competition winner a week-long holiday for a family of up to 4 in Majorca in summer 2012. Flights will be provided by jetXtra.com and alpharooms.com will be providing accommodation for the competition winners, alongside car hire from holidayautos.com.

Dave Fallow from alpharooms.com spoke of the company’s delight to work with jetXtra.com, stating that “here at alpharooms.com, we are dedicated to providing our customers with high quality holidays at affordable prices, and it is fantastic news that jetXtra.com will be offering flights from Humberside, opening up the region’s access to these well-known and loved Spanish resorts.

We are looking forward to working with jetXtra.com to help offer their customers the very best deals possible in some of our most popular holiday destinations, and this competition is a brilliant way of launching the new partnership. I look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration between our two companies”.

Daniel Reilly from jetXtra.com said the company is “delighted to link up with alpharooms.com to offer our passengers the best hotel deals around. We hope people will support these new services so we can bring even more exciting new routes to them in the future”.

Start-up chooses Humberside as first base
13 Jan 2012

A new airline will operate flights to Spain from Humberside Airport this summer.

Tickets for flights with jetXtra.com are on sale, with prices for its first two routes, Majorca and Malaga, starting at £69 one-way.

jetXtra is part of CCT Group Ltd and one of the start-up’s directors is Daniel Reilly, who made headlines in 2005 when, as an 18-year-old, he set up Nexus Airlines in his bedroom.

However, the business was wound up when its backer got into financial difficulties.

Since then, he was worked with Hunt&Palmer, the aircraft charter specialists.

Reilly, who is now 25, said: ‘Nexus Airlines sold really well – we sold 1,000 seats in our first week.

‘Everything went exactly as we wanted it to as far as sales and the popularity of flights were concerned but unfortunately, the company that was backing us financially fell into difficulties.

‘No customer lost out – we re-booked them on Monarch.

‘Since then, I have spent a fair bit of time in the industry, have gained a lot more experience and made a lot of contacts.

‘The new airline has the backing and support of an established tour operator, with all the expertise that brings. It is not a fly-by-night operation.’

The Humberside services to Majorca and Malaga will operate from 1 June to the end of October.

If successful, more routes will be added for the winter and summer 2013 seasons.

Reilly said the service will be ‘low cost, with extras’, such as free in-flight drinks and a baggage allowance of 15kg.

Passengers can pay £10.50 per leg to increase their baggage allowance to 20kg.

There are no fees for paying by credit or debit card.

‘Our aim is to bring a better service to the travelling public,’ he said.

Holiday Extras has signed an exclusive, long-term contract to offer travel insurance via the airline’s website.

Its website also says jetXtra.com has partnered with ‘alpharooms.com, holidayautos.com and Holidays Extras to allow passengers to self package their holidays with great value hotels, car hire deals and other essentials’

I was certainly viewing this with some cynicism when this story emerged yesterday, and had been quite vocal about it on another forum.

I have recieved a couple of PM's since then to put me straight on the matter however. I have been told that this is not a flash-in-the-pan operations like some we see emerging. I have also been told that the airport business development have been working closely with the airline, and you would think the expertise at MAG would be able to smell a rat..

4xweekly flights seems like a reasonable start, and HAT are sure to give this a boost, I just hope they have the money to invest in marketing in the area..

Hopefully this could be the start of a turnaround for HUY, and I will remain cautiously optimistic.
