Partial HS2 MAN rail station renders have been put out

But it looks like if we want greater economic prospects, we are the ones that will need to fork out for it:

"It is thought a station at Manchester Airport would cost around £400m. But a row is rumbling over who should pay - with the Government seeking ‘local contribution’ from Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Manchester Airports Group and other private funders."

@lbaspotter quote "MAN are to introduce a so called kiss and fly tax (Drop off/Pick Up Fee) from June on all 3 terminal buildings and the trainstation. £3 for 5 mins and £4 for 10 mins."

Is that what they call it? If so, it makes it sound as if the airport is going to charge people if they want to give a loved one a peck on the cheek before flying off. Goodness knows what the charge would be for something a bit more adventurous. Is Mr O'Leary watching events?

Apparently if you want to avoid the fee, you will park in what was Jetpark 1,2, and 3 and get a bus transfer to the terminal, that's according to the papers.

Liverpool introduced a drop off charge/pick up fee sometime ago, there is a free alternative, where you have a bit further to walk. Some moaned about it, but it is what it is, people still use the nearer pay car park, so it's up to the passenger in the end.

Manchester airport says the charges are "to reduce congestion" at the terminals but in all honesty, people don't have a real option to avoid the terminals if they're using them. In the BBC article it mentions the free parking is a mile away, not really a realistic option is it? The airport should just come clean and say they need the money to pay for the airports expansion. If the airlines wont pay for it....you'll have to! #kissandpay

I wonder how long the kiss can be for ; -)

Seriously I don't think I would opt for parking elsewhere and getting a bus.

Looking into this, it's not just pick-up and drop off charges at the three terminals, it's also at the airport's railway station. So even if you're using public transport, such as a train to the airport, if you need to be picked up from there, you'll still get stung.

It's quite a walk to term 3 for example, I don't mind but if you're a family with kids you might want a pick up.

Manchester Evening News said:
It will take seven minutes to cover the half mile to terminal two or 12 minutes to bridge the 1.2 mile journey to terminals one and three.

The ‘express drop-off charge’ and free parking are aimed at freeing up the hub’s congested roads, which have been the subject of a barrage of Twitter complaints in recent months.

The airport also commissioned a study of the site, which they say shows the forecourts are ‘broken’.
By next year, the report says, there could be 40 per cent more traffic.

The problem, according to bosses, is caused by ‘kiss and fly traffic’ - when friends or relatives drop off passengers.

interesting. I wonder why some people above have NOT linked this story. An anti-MAN agenda perhaps?

"Manchester Airport is setting up a fund to help pay for public transport to and from the airport - including bus routes which may have been slashed by operators.Bosses are planning to invest a ‘six-figure sum’ in the pot, and say they will reveal an exact amount in June.

The cash will, among other things, go toward subsidising bus routes and commissioning studies into new services that could be needed. By contributing they hope to offset shrinking council transport budgets and a diminishing bus network - which has lost 8 million miles in four years. Also aimed at tackling congestion in and around the airport, the end goal, they say, is to get more passengers and staff using public transport."

So if you park in Jetpark 3 you can the get a free tfr bus to the terminal with your loved ones. Is that right ? If so how long do you get and what's to stop aviation enthusiasts just driving in and parking there for free for an hour.

If the Manchester version of free parking turns out anything like the free parking at some other airports, you might be faced with some hefty charges if you exceed the hour free parking allowance. Perhaps somebody could confirm the fee if you overstay your welcome?

Although my question was "tongue in cheek" it is relevant because next month I will be arriving by train and departing from Terminal 3. In the past, I have always been dropped off by a transfer bus outside the Terminal. So, can anyone tell me how long to walk from the Railway Station to Terminal 3?

Assuming you are reasonably fit then if you allow 15 minutes you should be ok - it does depend on the number of people coming off the platforms and whether people stand on the travellators (it's often faster to walk down the outside of them).

One tip for you if you are travelling with small bags - normal signs will point you to the large lifts on the left as you come out of the Skylink (this is the large link bridge from the station). These lifts are normally very busy. Can I suggest you continue straight ahead, down the escalator, into Terminal 1 check-in hall, then turn left and you will find 2 smaller lifts at the far end. Unfortunately if you have large bags you may not get through the 'gauge barriers' at the top of the escalator.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
