Might have been suggested before, but how about "The Runway Clubhouse" at the golf course next to the airport. Open to both golfers and aviation enthusiasts with a rooftop viewing area overlooking the airport.

That's a great idea, the golf course gives a cracking view (y)

I once contacted the golf club manager and made some enquires regarding the tgolf course land etc, he was interested at first till I mentioned it being for aviation related purposes, then he lost interest and cut me short, the impression I got was golfers class the airport as an intrution and spotters a nuisance.

I still feel a combined use facility built like a sports covered stand (like Hall Green Stadium) built on the Rugby Sports ground across the road from the Tristar Hotel, I bet the manager of the Exciles woul welcome a better facility that would be used for both sports watching and aviation.

As a matter of interest how much unused land is there on the site of the tristar hotel?

If there's any way you can get the word out about that petition more, please do so. The more people sign it, the more we can show there's interest in it. Maybe post on other forums?

I've tweeted some people who've done spotting at BHX. I've emailed flugsnug in the hope that he might support it too. If any of you know of any other methods, feel free.

As regards the golf course i imagine the airport already has its eyes on that for its own purposes.Municipal golf courses have been struggling for years and there is not a lot left for Birmingham Council to cut back on.
For the council its a win win situation.Revenue from the sale and revenue from any increased airport profits.
I hope there are no local councilors viewing.

The Exiles Rugby ground down Old Damson Lane (entrance from the back and Cov rd entrance from the front), would be Perfect if a large enough and high enough all weather building was built, that would accomodate both sports watchers and those interested in aircraft.

Nice to see the petition is garnering a fair amount of support, more so than the petition targeted at the Birmingham City Council about a year ago. Looks like people genuinely like the idea.

There are plenty of spots they could pick if it does go ahead, but surely they'd want somewhere as close to the action as possible. Because of all the earth there, the back of the TriStar hotel probably won't be as good as it was before the runway was extended.

Shame Google Maps haven't updated since 2011/12. It'd be easier to draw a few mock-ups with the runway extension in mind.

I have just borrowed these two photos to show where I meen in relation to a purpose built two storey building could be built giving views in both directions including a roof top view over the airport noise bund.
The arrows show the location and views.

Nice idea . Was initially a bit sceptical because anywhere on the other side of the 45 seems a long way from the terminal. However I am probably thinking too much about the old days when aircraft would nose right up close to where you sitting but by the same token you had a fairly distant view of 15 and none at all of the 33 approach. Although I really only have a passing interest in the 'modern ' stuff I could quite easily spend a day in a reasonably comfortable indoor facility,
Just need to find someone with a spare 100k to finance it (n)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
