Thomson announces expansion of Summer 2013 programme from Leeds Bradford Airport

04 May 2012

Thomson has announced the expansion of its Summer 2013 programme from Leeds Bradford Airport with the introduction of four new routes.

The new Summer 2013 brochures* will now include Dalaman (Turkey), Paphos (Cyprus), Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and Tunisia to complement its existing holiday destinations to Palma and Corfu.

In addition, Yorkshire holidaymakers will now be able to take advantage of the popular Thomson Cruise programme from Dalaman, Corfu and Palma.

LBA’s Sales & Marketing Manager, James Broughton, said “Summer 2013 is shaping up to be one of our most exciting Thomson programmes ever and we welcome Thomson’s increased commitment to Leeds Bradford Airport. These new holiday destinations will provide an increased choice for holidaymakers from Yorkshire’s gateway airport to a wide range of beach, cruise and sun resorts”.

Carl Gissing, Director of Customer Service for Thomson Airways said: “We are delighted to announce our new routes for Summer 2013 from Leeds Bradford Airport to Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), Dalaman (Turkey), Enfidha (Tunisia) and Paphos (Cyprus). This demonstrates our firm commitment to Leeds Bradford as part of our UK regional airport network. Yes thanks Malaga and I will mirror what Aviador said - lets hope they can be filled with some of Monarch's own Summer routes!

I have noticed that Monarch airlines B757 G-MONK is operating on behalf of Thomson at Edinburgh this Summer, just like what is projected to happen next Summer at LBA. Judging by the gap on the Wednesday, a 1hr 30min turnaround suggests an aircraft that could possibly by a B757 as well...

Also worth pointing out that a 90 min turn around will allow them to operate both the Airbus A321 and as mentioned Boeing 757-200. As 90 mins is enough time for the over heated breaks to cool down, as we know Airbus A321's suffer from that problem after landing at LBA. Plus a crew change would be required.

Now they could squeeze something out of Monday. If they push the departure back by about 3 hours!?
A 757 would be the possible aircraft, as can the A321 reach SSH from our runway? I know tom's 737's can!

I don't think that they could push back the departure to Dalaman by 3 hrs. The flight is tied up with a cruise ship and this would mean too late an arrival to get the passengers to the ship, especially if it was delayed.

I mean the other way, 0700 or around then!

Well, something's afoot!

The flight designators for Summer 2013 flights as posted earlier have been changed on the system from MON to TBA (to be announced?).

Make of that what you will!!!

Whilst it would be great to have 3 monarch aircraft on the deck, i would imagine they wouldn't like to have a crew base of A320 and 757 flight deck. Afterall it'll only be small and would be easier from logistical point of view (crewing) to have 3 A320. What would be better is for TOM to operate a 757 out of Leeds next year :)

So does that confirm that Monarch are operating on behalf of Thomson?

No.....they are marked as provisional!.....Also, noticed that Ibiza is missing on Thursday.

Further to my last post....found Ibiza....it starts later than the others (23rd May).

MON3524/74 0600/1220

Well if 'provisional' does become confirmed, then we must have 3 MON aircraft then. It does make sense though rather than TOM having a summer only base for one aircraft.

Will Monarch's Airbus A320's have the range to get to Sharm el Sheikh from Leeds/Bradford in the height of the summer season especially on a hot summer's day? As I have serious doubts about it.

Using an Airbus 321 for the Thomson charters would be a better choice of aircraft as it can been operated by the new LBA based crews instead of having a mixed fleet with 2x Airbus 320's and 1x Boeing 757 been based.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
