Thomas Cook have announced flights to Tunisia (Monastir) commencing May 2009. We have heard this before but the flight has usually been axed before the seasons started. Hopefully we will do better this time since the route is a late announcement, and hopefully reflects demand for non EEC holiday destinations, which should become more popular in view of the value of the pound against the Euro.

Perhaps Balkan would like to give us our Varna flights back too?[*]

Re: Charters Summer 2009

This is great news especially with the way things are at the moment. Lets hope it happens this time around.

That could be a bit of a crush then if they arrive together. Just as well the only other stuff arriving around then is domestic.

Not half!! :shok: The airport website is now advertising a capacity increase by Goldtrail. Can you imagine the scrum for departures if Onur Air end up bringing 2 x A300s in at the same time?

Re: Charters Summer 2009

Yes but both flights are going to be leaving after the early morning rush between 0630 and 0830, so even in our very cosy terminal, it might not be too bad on a Tuesday morning. I guess it depends on how many Jet2 flights are leaving around that time?

I suspect that LBA management are going to have to pay a lot of attention to the timing of flights to avoid major a major crush and negotiate with airlines to try and get them to come in at hours that avoid the problem, although with delays etc it is surely always going to happen from time to time.

In view of the idiocy of the Council in delaying the terminal, perhaps the airport should hand out letters of dissatisfaction for passengers to fill in and send to the Planners, urging them to approve the new terminal?
If not, that is the type of thing we would do via the Support Group, but of course we need Airport help to access the terminal, collect the papers, etc etc. We got that in the 90's courtesy of the then Director, Gordon Dennison, (great guy!) but I am not so sure that Bridgepoint would allow it now, especially in view of the security situation these days. Lets hope it doesn't come to that.

Re: Charters Summer 2009

I would say a few strategically placed large post boxes situated down the walkway leading to security would do the trick. My guess is that many of the people queuing especially during the busy peak times would be more than happy to sign a 'pre written' letter and pop it in a box for collection.

Another couple of boxes situated in the arrivals area near the new Cafe Ritazza would probably collect a fair few while people are waiting and again a couple in the departure area. The cramped conditions in departures are enough to annoy anyone.

One way the airport could assist us would be if they could provide the post boxes with glossy pictures of LBASG and the LBA development all over them.

Today's Onur Air is an A321. We could see the return of the A300 later in the summer.

This thread is now re-named Charters Summer 2010.

Good news there, must be more demand. I always thought those 738's were always going out full with bags filling near enough all holds 100%. Does that mean we will not see their 738's at all then next summer? Didnt they used to operate palma on wednesday too last summer?

I think you will find that they have axed everything else they operated for next Summer - nothing more than a token presence really. I will be happy to see two less 738's in favour of two 757's as TOM had all but withdrawn them from LBA over the past few years. I know there was one ex First Choice 757 this year but that was about all I think.

Hi all. Some rather bad news but it also comes with a little good news as well

Lakes and Mountains tour operator Inghams Holidays have taken over the full allocation of seats on the weekly summer Saturday Innsbruck service as Crystal holidays have given up there on allocation of seats.

I guess this has something to do with the fact that Crystal Holidays are owned by the TUI Thomson’s group. So with this news Inghams Holidays have decided against dropping the service all together but it has had to reduce its weekly capacity. The service this coming summer 2010 season will be operated by the based flybe.com Dash 8-Q400 aircraft instead of the usual Austrian Fokker 100.

New flight times.
BE9233 Leeds-Bradford - Innsbruck = 1445 - 1855
BE9234 Innsbruck - Leeds-Bradford = 1935 - 2145

And he is the new revised LBA summer 2010 charter flights outlook.

Thanks for the update LBAspotter.

Somewhat fewer than previous years charters but to be expected.

Still should be better for the 16th largest airport in the uk in which we have 3 of the largest cities per population in the catchment area according to wikipedia and ukcities websites. The only way is up!!

doofhead, you're right, in terms of position within the UK, city(s) population and catchment areas we should have more than the five airlines listed above to operate our charter routes this summer, bearing in mind BH air and flybe only operating once weekly, with TCX again, holding the majority of these flights.

Maybe, perhaps after the expansion has been completed, we may end up seeing a few more charter operators at LBA (eg: MON) or see existing airlines, such as TCX operate long haul charters, perhaps to Sanford, FL for instance.

This is without a doubt the worst ever summer charter programme in the modern era. 22 is just not good enough.

This must be the first time in donkeys years that we have not had one foreign charter operator on a Saturday, whether it be Austrian, Air Europa, Spanair or otherwise.

Bigman said:

Perhaps so with the traditional charter type operation and it's sad that we don't have more charters but at least we have a strong Thomas Cook contingent. We have to not forget that a very large percentage of people now decide to go-it-alone and book their holidays independently with the likes of Jet2, Ryanair and Easyjet. Without this factor I wonder how many charters we would be having next summer?

Surely there is still time for more carriers to show an interest??, I guess when compared to DTV or HUY things are not that bad.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
