Do not want to think that way as we are all normally disappointed when the news comes out.
Maybe doing a Tees Side, run the airport down then a apply to build houses and commercial outlets around the site then decide to do a Bristol filton type re-development on the actual airfield. Lots of money in that for our new owners.

Merry Christmas snowman
At least your favourite airport Doncaster is on the up with more flights and destinations including long haul so maybe we need to get real with our local council anti airport development in Leeds the time to switch our efforts to Doncaster is with us.
I will stick to using Manchester.

DSA currently appears to be an attractive proposition compared to MAN but if, and it is a big if, they continue to add flights and therefore passengers it will become as crowded as both LBA and MAN making it a much less attractive proposition. The fact the TUI will now be a major player there also detracts from its attractiveness as an alternative as far as I'm concerned. Even MAN is a more attractive proposition unless a new major player moves into DSA. I think I'll stick with LBA until they cover it with houses.

The biggest danger in all of this is there may be more Jet2 eggs in a basket they already monopolise. That may ease some of the shortfall but is not good for competition and prices. Are we looking at failures by both LBA management and LCC to invest in infrastructure as the reasons? Who knows, because let's be honest, Ryanair have always been a law until themselves! Whatever the reasons this is very disappointing

Max - must be a major factor here. Ryanair's growth for the next was all built around the MAX - be it replacement or growth for airframes.

LBA - let's face it. Lack of any investment be it Terminal or Stand capacity, and the infrastructure around the airport do not help. Maybe they've negotiated a new deal which Ryanair do not like.

Brexit - i won't make no secret of it. This is BOUND to be having an affect on Ryanair bookings. I know that

Jet2 - Ryanair can survive against them and we know that. However with point 3 is bound to be having an effect on forward bookings, with customers more likely to book with Jet2. They've lived in Harmony for a few years but i reckon the continued growth of Jet2 has had an effect - especially with the "b" word.

MOL - he's a bit like a political leader that won't step down after his party has lost elections and direction of his party. He refuses to step down.

I am in no doubt - within the week (despite Christmas) the Jet2 planning team will looking into potential of growth.

Well at this rate they will be no need for a new terminal! Its absolutely nothing to do with max issues , its simply down to the very poor infrastructure with a terminal that's just not fit for purpose, and yes other factors do include runway and weather issues and MAN. Just get the bloody terminal built and decent infrastructure put in as I fear it may be too late!!

I think we have to now hope for "better late than never". There is now one huge amount of work to be done to claw back what has been lost and that is going to be no easy task. If on the back of the Ryanair cuts, the previously posted Jet2 plans for a pull out in a year or two (which I actually personally doubt) are true, then does this actually say what the longer term plans for the airport land are. A massive positive announcement in January will really help allay a lot of our current fears and doom and gloom. Once again Mr Positive here is struggling to stay upbeat just now and that also at a traditionally happy time of year. There is going to be no forward accumulation unless there is some speculation in the infrastructure.

Ryanair have been operating into LBA since consistently since 1996. Why would they suddenly decide, after 23 years, that there was a problem with the runway ? And they are still operating 56 weekly flights - the equivalent of 3 based aircraft. Why is the runway ok for these 56 flights but not the others they have dropped ? Why is LBA on the list of airports where they have reintroduced services to Girona ? And If they are ‘only bothered about Manchester’ why bother operating 56 fights - why not pull out altogether?

hi all
does any-body out there know if ryanair have pulled any aircraft out of man?
sm
all the best for christmas and the new year (i wonder what your new year wish will be?)

They reduced flying at Manchester back in the early part of this decade (2011 / 2012 ?) as part of their negotiating tactic for a better deal - which was eventually forthcoming. As a general rule, when they are trying to negotiate a deal and aren’t getting what they want, they reduce schedules but keep some services. If negotiations break down completely, they walk away all together and close bases. Even then, they have been known to reopen bases

llandudno & statto
thanks for info lads,i wonder if ryanair have had a spat with LBA management over charges,as man has gained a aircraft and lba has lost another one, just my thoughts.

I don’t think we’ll ever know unless one of them breaks ranks and goes public. It is a much more likely explanation than an issue with the runway or terminal though.

I heard rumours of Ryanair scaling back towards the end of the summer. It is very disappointing news and I hope to hell there is a silver lining to this particular cloud, even if it means increased Jet2 dominance. This could be a golden opportunity for easyJet- there's b*gger all else to fill the gap apart from the incumbents. TUI won't and Norwegian are unstable.

The new terminal is a must now, whatever additional sh*t hits the fan. It's imperative that LBA retains its existing business and obviously important to replace what is going by attracting another operator. That is in the hands of AMP so I hope they make the right decision and crack on. As for the access road debacle, classic face in palm from Leeds City Council. Almost makes me ashamed to be a Leeds native with these Neanderthals pissing about like it's still 1969.

Fingers crossed Swissport at LBA come through all this relatively unscathed.

I agree with oldendays that the terminal is essential. Whilst it is disappointing that Ryanair are cutting back, maybe not permanently, the loss of Bratislavia and the likes is not that important but attracting business routes for Leeds and Yorkshire is. EasyJet would be a great addition as they do serve places like CDG, CPH, MUC, etc. as well as the sun routes. So I think that a new terminal and the Rail Station would be attractive to the business community and I hope these projects will be given priority.
Cancelling the Link Road is plain stupid and will achieve nothing except costing Yorkshire folk more money to travel over to Manchester whilst the Leeds roads remain congested. MAN, DSA MME and NCL will all be laughing their heads off at this decision.

Since posting the revised summer schedule 24 hours ago I've been talking to 2x LBA based Ryanair employees, they haven't being informed of any of the cuts that are currently showing on the Ryanair website.
I've been told they are expecting 2x based aircraft at LBA next summer 2020 consisting of 1x Boeing 737-800NG & 1x Boeing 737-MAX.
It's surprising also to be told that 20+ new cabin crew have just been recruited for the LBA base.

It looks like these latest cuts might be connected to the delayed deliveries of the Boeing 737-MAX aircraft and not the fault of the airport.
Hopefully once the deliveries restart LBA will get its based aircraft and lost routes back.

I really do hope somebody at Ryanair HQ in Dublin imform the Leeds based staff what the hell is happening, as they are in complete shock at my posting yesterday.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
