Your first time flying?

Generally speaking scheduled flights have a two hour check-in period and charters tend to have a three hour check-in. This might sound a long time before the flight actually departs but most flights will board at least half-an-hour before departure. You may have to queue to check-in and possibly security prior to entering the departure area. You will also need time to find your departure gate once you are in the departure lounge. Time soon flies so if you are both wanting to have a shop around and maybe a drink in a bar beforehand then three hours prior to departure is about right. Arriving at the airport in good time will give you piece of mind and allow for delays getting to the airport.

Re: check in at Gatwick airport

If your tickets suggest an check-in open time you are best to be there for that time.

Re: check in at Gatwick airport

it says check in will open at 16:40 there is no time on when to get there? our coach is exspected to arrive at gatwick at 16:30 so you thinking we will have enough time to check in & security & stuff you are being a great help so far.

Yes, you'll be fine. As a first time flyer though, once you have checked in head straight to departures so you can familiarise yourself with where things are.

You're welcome!

It would be great if you could come back on here to say how it all went. Have a super holiday in Tenerife. :good:

19th June 2018:
My family is all meeting up in Malaga for a wedding.

My husband and I are flying out of LGW South on BA2714 departing at 09:20 to AGP.
Our nieces are flying into LGW South from BOS on Norwegian DI7148 arr LGW at 07:55
They then have a connecting flight to AGP - Norwegian D85001 departing at 10:00

(Their hold bags will have been through checkeded from BOS to AGP)

Though we have arranged to meet up finally with them at AGP, I wondered if it would be possible to have a (fleeting!) meeting at LGW whilst they are doing the flight connection.

Question: when they follow the Flight Connection signs - what part of the general Departure lounge might they enter into from their arrival gate?

Be nice to "meet them in transit!"

Any advice, tips or suggestions will be gratefully recieved.

you both have flights departing from the south terminal. once they have gone through connections they will be in the airside departures area which is the same place you will be. you can meet up for a short time there before you have to head off to your flight.

We'll be in the terminal heading off to a flight to AGP

Our nieces are arriving at LGW south from BOS.

They are transitting through LGW to AGP at the same time - but on a different flight.

How can I find out which gate their flight from BOS is arriving at?

Are you wanting to meet them at the gate as they get off the plane?

Since arrivals and departing passengers are segregated at LGW (as with most UK airports) even if you knew what gate they arrived at you wouldn't be able to meet up with them until they have passed through connections and security, and are then through to the airside departures area.

Dear all

I am not sure whether this is the right place to post, but i will give it ago anyway! I am solely focused on end of 2016 and early 2017 procedures rather than current.

As a passenger that missed their flight back in early 2017 i wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced this / whether you have experienced anything different.

I missed my flight in Jan 2017 and therefore advised the desk to re-direct me to arrivals in order to return home after my missed flight. I followed an easy jet member of staff who was re-directing a few other passengers also. Easyjet never took my name when redirected and Border force never checked my passport (that i can remember) at the arrivals desk. I later then passed through the red channel - again no information was checked other than asking whether I had anything to declare I.e. Duty free.

Has anyone else had this experience? / how was you redirected? Can you remember the route you took?

This is very important please reach out :)

I take it you are referring to having gone through security, into departures and arriving at the gate late - therefore missing the flight ?

This happened to me in LGW. I think it was around the time in question as it happens - but I havent checked. I was escorted from the the gate in the departure lounge, through the departures area (tracing back my steps), through someon doorways marked "no entry" and ultimately to a card access door which led to the area used for the UK border checks for inbound passengers. i.e i was taken from departures in to the arrivals area. The gate agent and I then walked to the front of the passport check queue and the border force officer was informed by the gate agent that I had missed my flight and she was escorting me to landside. I then had my passport and boarding pass checked by the border force officer and was allowed to pass through the area. The gate agent walked with us to landside where we left each other.

This was in North terminal & Easyjet / whoever handles them

Hi lfc84 thankyou for this, did they scan your passport do you know? or did they just check passport with the barding pass?

I was scheduled to travel on a domestic flight, so a cursory glance at the passport was undertaken to verify name matched the on both boarding pass and passport. It wasn't scanned electronically

I am flying from Dublin to Gatwick wityh Ryanair, staying overnight and then flying from Heathrow to Malta to go on a cruise. I am a bit confused as to what forms/tests I need to enter the UK. I live in N. Ireland which is part of the UK and that is where my journey starts.
I would appreciate any advice.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
