This is quite a detailed review of business class BHX to Doha. It sounded like it was the chaps first time at BHX, just shows how routes like this pull from a wider catchment area.

The legend that is flugsnug managed to capture the Thomson emergency landing a few days ago.

It was operating EMA-TFS and after holding for a while by EMA it diverted to Birmingham. Apparently it was 5 tonnes* overweight when landing.

*I have no way of verifying that figure, it's just what I was told.

What was the problem do you know. There wasn't anything apparent other than it looked overweight?

I've heard there may have been hydraulic issues but that is far from official. I guess if it was an overweight landing they must have needed to get down quickly.

Presumably BHX was preferred due to longer runway or wind direction? Otherwise why not land at EMA which is not as busy.

Not sure, possibly there was a spare aircraft at Birmingham they could transfer the pax on to?

Thomson emergency landing a few days ago
The only thing I noted from the excellent video (love the birds!) was smoking of the inner wheel of the left undercarriage from about 1min 10 secs to 2mins 05. Probably an effect of landing rather than the reason for it.
