More hoardings are up in T1, I think the lighting is being updated.

The Easyjet ticket desk has now gone, it always seemed pointless having such a large desk for only one route.

The Jet2 ticket desk is looking very red, the hoardings are still up but I managed a picture through the window. Apologies for the blurriness, I was on a moving escalator.

Birmingham HS2 Airport?

Not totally convinced of the name but it has a kind of a ring to it. Less of a mouthful than Birmingham William Shakespeare Airport :)

Anyway,

Runway 2 Birmingham HS2 Airport offers far better alternative to Heathrow Runway 3

With the emerging constraints on developing Heathrow Runway 3 following the publication of the National Policy Statement (NPS), the case for the promotion of Runway 2 at Birmingham Airport HS2 is gaining traction.

Then again the airport used to be called Birmingham International Airport after the train station?
The train station was built and named (rather sillily and confusingly) when the airport operated from the Elmdon site.Marston Green station was as well connected to the airport back then.
A few years later it became the fashion for every airfield with a hard runway to add international to its name.

Finally someone realises that there is a whole country outside of the M25!

Good luck Mr Ahmad, there should be plenty of demand for more to India. Lets hope that they listen.

Forget busy London, fly to other cities: UK to Indian airlines

Suggests connections to Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham, as Heathrow slots are very hard to get

“The Indian market is important for us. A major part of my visit was to look at how we can strengthen our relationship,” Ahmad told Business Standard.

While airlines focus largely on Heathrow, the UK government is making a pitch for connections to other airports, such as Manchester, Birmingham and also the Gatwick airport south of London.

March sees the usual Dublin increases for the Cheltenham Festival.

Ryanair have 10 per day on the Tuesday and Friday with between 7 and 9 per day for the rest of the week.

Aer Lingus are up to 7 or 8 per on some days.

Flew into Alicante yesterday...from Southend. Have to say Alicante puts UK terminals to shame. Excellent. Airy, spacious and easy way finding. When BHX goes for its next terminal it should do the same. Cannot keep bolting on bits and pieces the the existing terminal. Needs to think beyond that.

As for Southend, 20 or so routes and far better than any London airport, so if you live this way...

The joys of a nationalized aviation system. All of their airports are public/government run/owned and as such, local politician can lobby for nice bags of cash to get shiny new airport terminals built.

...our aviation system is privatized and as such, that will never happen in our country.

Indeed Woody.

I use Malaga mainly in Spain and I was surprised by the massive check-in area when the new terminal was opened, compared to the space allocated to security and duty-free which Birmingham's surpasses by a mile IMO.

Someone high-up in AENA has obviously got relatives in the trade!! :cigar::cigar::cigar:

It's going to be interesting how the airport copes at peak times this summer. Things seemed pretty bad at times last year and we still have some growth for this year. I hope that the time for adding extensions here and there is over and some firm plans are in place for a new building.

I'm passing through on August Bank Holiday weekend, I can't say that I'm looking forward to it.

Travelled through in August last year Ray and it was a breeze. I would imagine travelling through during the 7-10 peak would be a different story though.

That's reassuring.

We have an 07:40 departure so slightly after the main rush. We're flying with Thomson so I'll be dropping the bags off the night before which will help.

I am sure bhx is excellent, but whereas in the UK a new terminal is a once in a blue moon and only after all possible reconfigurations have been tried to bursting point, here...that is alicante...they obviously thought stuff this let's go for it. Build a terminal that can handle 20 million with ease at a time when we are handling less than 10 million. Foresight and it works wonders. Only downside: no where to get a coffee at arrivals. Airports seem to think that weary travellers don't want a rest.
Anyway on holiday. Wife wondering what I am doing online on Valentine's Day. Priorities!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
