In my experience, arriving back into T2 is dire with 4 desks, normally 2 staffed, and no eGates.
A couple of simultaneous arrivals has pax queueing almost out to the ramp.

Not many eGates open in T1 when we have come through. Surely all of these should be open all the time?

Have to say although i am very pro BHX the arrival process always fills me with dread, in April we returned from Las Palmas about midnight all the eGates were operating but would not accept my passport although never had a problem before,so had to go to the only manned desk took another 30 minutes.

Previous trip in November 1hr plus waiting for luggage best part of 2hrs all told and to be honest it's been like that for a long time in my experience, it's really disappointing as I really am pro Brum and by contrast we were thro Las Palmas and sat in a taxi in 10 minutes (hand luggage only )as it is every time we visit and at Sanford just over 1hr for 7 people and that included picking up the hire cars.

Maybe I'm just unlucky or just expect better but I have passed through many airports over the years but I have to say I don't think we fair that well, anyway moan over.

Birmingham Airport is to launch a new flight update service for departing passenger via Twitter from this summer.

Working with Cork based technology company, TIC, the new information service, known as BizTweet, allows passengers to receive real-time updates via their Twitter feed at each step of their journey, from the opening of check-in to flight departure.

Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport's Chief Executive said: "We want to deliver information to our customers in an innovative and instant way and BizTweet allows us to meet the demands of our passengers.

"We're confident that the new service will be welcomed by the growing number of Twitter users choosing to fly from Birmingham so they can enjoy the journey through the terminal while information is delivered direct to their mobile devices."

Travellers will be able to sign up via the airport's website or personal Twitter account. In addition to receiving flight information, other operational and commercial information will be delivered highlighting important information and offers.

The news was announced today (Tuesday) at the British-Irish Airports Expo in Birmingham.

Commenting from the event, founder and CEO of the award winning BizTweet service Paul Brugger, said: "Birmingham Airport is very special to me as it was my local airport prior to moving to Cork. It's an airport I've used numerous times and one I know well as a passenger. I'm delighted Birmingham, our 3rd airport in the UK, has chosen BizTweet to provide passengers with real time personalised information direct to their mobile devices by social media".

The airport hopes to launch the new service during the summer.

Oh if only I'd known earlier! Interesting to learn that the talk at 1330h is about terminal facilities provision for a 10 million passenger airport. Aha, that's why we feel cramped and experience delays before and after flights!

Well i know what to think of it, it will be to feel eternally grateful for the work that Paul Kehoe has undertaken while chief executive at Birmingham.

In business there is a good time to join a company and a good time to leave; close one door and open another. And in PK's case it would appear from reading the article that his energies are now going to lie elsewhere within the Midlands conurbation.

He leaves on a high and i am sure with the admiration of all who have worked with him; his dedication to the task as chief executive has been to see the airport move from a sleeping giant to an active giant and one that in airport and airline terms will continue to expand.

But what an exciting opportunity there is now for a new chief executive as and when he/she is appointed: maintaining the upward curve in passenger throughput; attracting new airlines and, hopefully, seeing the development of those already serving BHX and, of course, seeing the terminal expand with the advent of HS2.

Exciting times.

Well, end of an era that one.

Maybe he feels he has done all he can with BHX and leaving on a high.

Airport chief quits in shock announcement

Paul Kehoe
The chief executive of Birmingham Airport is to quit his post.

In a shock announcement Paul Kehoe – one of the region’s most high profile business figures – said he would be stepping down from his role effective from July 12.

Mr Kehoe has been instrumental in transforming the fortunes of the airport since joining the business in October 2008, helping grow passenger numbers to 12 million in the year to March 2017.

His decision to step down is thought to have been prompted by an increasing workload due his wider roles within the region.

In addition to helming the airport, Mr Kehoe has been gradually taking on a more expansive role within various regional bodies.

These include chairing inward investment body, Marketing Birmingham, being president of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and in a new capacity, chairman of the West Midlands Growth Company – the successor to Marketing Birmingham.

With the recently formed West Midlands Combined Authority and the appointment of a West Midlands Mayor, by stepping down from his responsibilities at the airport, he will be able to have a clear focus on his regional commitments.

In a statement announcing his departure, Mr Kehoe said: “It has been a privilege to serve the people of the West Midlands by leading their airport at this exceptional time.

“I planned originally to stay only for five years, but the challenge became so exciting that I stayed for another four. In every role there is a natural business cycle, and after delivering significant airline and passenger growth, completing all the major development projects which resulted in a doubling of the profit, generating significant dividends for shareholders and the region, I feel it is time for the next generation to take the business forward.”

Maybe he feels he has done all he can with BHX and leaving on a high.

My thoughts exactly, quit whilst you are ahead.

Obviously nobody can predict the future but there is the potential of a rough couple of years ahead. We've already seen Vueling and Norwegian make huge cuts to their UK network, who knows what could be next.

One things for sure, BHX is a massively different place than before he arrived. Runway extension, terminal overhaul, double daily A380....... all once nothing more than a pipe dream that Mr K made a reality. If he has a similar success in his role with the Combined Authority then he will be a huge benefit to the region.

Thanks Mr Kehoe for all you have done, your shoes will be big ones to fill.

Absolutely agree with all the above comments.
As someone who has worked at BHX for over 20 years,we have probably seen the most important changes and developments under the leadership of Mr Kehoe.
With Brexit on the horizon and all the challenges that will bring, plus security issues and of course further expansion and improvements in whatever form they will be,the new leadership team have been given a really solid base from which to work.
I wish them well of course, but I would like to thank Mr Kehoe for all his hard work and commitment to BHX.
I am sure most on here will be grateful for what has been achieved so far but much more hard work is needed to keep not just what we have, but also to keep on an upward curve which is by no means guaranteed. That is going to be a tough job fo anyone,so I hope whoever takes on the job is up for the task.
Good luck to them as they are going to need it!!!

Will the new CEO be likely to bring his or her own team of staff to BHX and replace those in the current hierarchy?

The existing team have done a sterling job in terms of marketing and route development (although with a few bumps along the road in the latter department).

I would imagine the new CEO will have a look at what they have first. It is possible new faces may be brought in.
A lot will depend on who comes in and what their ideas are for the future.
If it is an internal appointment,i.e. Someone who has worked with Paul Kehoe or within BHX then major changes would be more unlikely I would have thought. Why rock the boat when things are going ok.
However chances are someone from elsewhere, hopefully with big airport experience will be brought in.
Obviously this is speculation but it is early days yet so we will have to see what happens.
I agree in particular the route development team have been brilliant and put BHX on the world map.Still a lot of work to do though,so someone with plenty of aviation/large airport experience would be best, possibly?!

Mr K is to stay on as Birmingham Chamber President :)

More recently, he has been increasingly involved in successfully promoting the West Midlands Region as Chairman of Marketing Birmingham, President of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, and in a new capacity as Chairman of the West Midlands Growth Company. With the recently formed Combined Authority and the appointment of a West Midlands Mayor, by stepping down from the Airport, Paul will be able to focus on his regional commitments.

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
