Primera have added a second Wednesday Palma PF2952 12.30 PF2951 16.55 perhaps a chance to swap with the based aircraft. It only runs for around six weeks from the first Wednesday in August but better than nothing.

Google flights have added Thomson/Tui and Palma looks great on Wednesday, Monday and Saturday - 8 direct flights by various airlines.

Czech showing 6 a week in April to Prague (5 last year in April)

I was at work last night, but as I can't sleep I thought I would have a look at my favourite forum.
Wow I wasn't expecting the replies I have got for a comment made over a week ago.

EGCC-MAN you have completely got the wrong end of the stick.
Nowhere in that post was a slur against Manchester.I was referring to what is known about British cities,by people who come from outside of the UK.
As someone who likes British history,i am well aware of what Manchester and it's people have done for our great country. As for ignorance, read the post again.I am saying that people will know of Manchester.Having successful football teams enhances a cities reputation,so I was actually being nice.
How many people from Prague or Bucharest will know of the cotton trade in Greater Manchester?
In fact how many Europeans including British citizens can name the 10 Greater Manchester towns that you speak of,without using google or a map.I rest my case.

Andrew I don't think I need to apologise to anyone,as I was not being nasty. The post was not meant as a dig at anyone.

I actually think more people know Manchester for its medical/medicine interests
as it actually keeps many of the Norwegian destinations and PHL viable with the
medicinal drugs Industry and Manchester University/ Wythenshaw Hopspital
centre of excellence and of course Christies ( I was careful saying medicinal drugs lol!)

I never used the word 'slur'. Your comment contained a factual error which I called out and corrected.

How many people from Prague or Bucharest will know of the cotton trade in Greater Manchester?

Very few, but that misses the point. Birmingham has gained world renown based upon its history of auto-manufacturing amongst other things. Thus the city's name has become well-known globally. But many individuals who have heard of 'Birmingham' won't now be aware of how the city's name originally rose to prominence. Many cities which now enjoy instant global recognition originally became ingrained into the public consciousness for reasons long forgotten.

In fact how many Europeans including British citizens can name the 10 Greater Manchester towns that you speak of,without using google or a map.I rest my case.

Don't rest your case. Your comment specifically referenced MANCHESTER, and that was exactly what I addressed. Nobody has suggested that overseas citizens ought to be able to name ten regional boroughs.

for a comment made over a week ago.

I have just returned to the UK. Catching up. But such a fundamental error - even one a week old - is worth correcting.

Why do you care so much ? I mean why would you even care to go through a Birmingham forum it smacks of insecurity to me.

By the way we will write what we want and correct what we wish on the Brummie forum.

Or would you like us to come over and correct the Manc pages for you ?

Chill and don't let Brum get to you and if it does dont make it so obvious!

Or would you like us to come over and correct the Manc pages for you ?

Yes, please do. I correct factual errors wherever I encounter them and wholeheartedly encourage others to do likewise. That is the essence of informed debate.

Why do you care so much ?

Do you not care about correcting misinformation? Are you happy to read fake nooz?

why would you even care to go through a Birmingham forum it smacks of insecurity to me.

I go through many forums covering developments in UK commercial aviation. A desire to be well-informed is a very positive thing. Do you favour narrow-minded parochialism?

Chill and don't let Brum get to you and if it does dont make it so obvious!

Factual misinformation gets to me. But I have no problem acknowledging Birmingham as a wonderful city. I expressed similar sentiments in my earlier posting too.

I am sorry EGCC but when it comes to factual or non-factual information we are all guilty, many for the mere reason that that is the information they have gleaned. I find this ongoing dialogue extremely boring, let's please get back on topic -- Birmingham Airport general threat.

Oh by the way, i will not respond to any reply on this issue.

Well, when I do post a factual error, I would be very grateful if yourself and / or other contributors would intervene to provide a correction. That is a good way for us all to learn, and I have no wish to see anything which I post result in other readers being misinformed. Given your background in journalism, Richard, I guess this sentiment would resonate with yourself also.

This is getting like that other forum with this niggling, please just leave it after all we all have a shared interest in aviation which is what makes this forum what it is.

One post only on this subject.

By the way I think Brummegem and EEGG-MAN are two of the more informative posterson here.

I trust you mean thread and not threat although it was starting to look like that for a moment.

Yes Aviador it should read thread, even us old journos can be guilty of spelling a word wrong sometimes. However, in my defence, i noticed it immediately but could not correct it as the 'edit' facility seems to have been removed from the options F4A...

Hey ho, hoist with my own petard...

It's like watching primary school kids

Both cities are brilliant in their own unique ways and both airports are brilliant and have loads and loads of potential!!

Manchester has developed quicker than Birmingham, that is how it is, BHX enthusiasts shouldn't be envious of that.
But MAN enthusiasts also shouldn't get sour when BHX gets a new route either. So immature

Were in the same country contributing to the same bloody economy are we not?!

Rant over.

Hi guys. We've let this run through hoping it would fizzle out but it hasn't.

Please read the Terms & Conditions with particular attention to the second to last paragraph before making any further posts.

May I suggest that all members, as I do, read each airport thread on this forum and they will then "get a feel" for our fellow posters.
This is a very pleasant forum proved by the fact that it is very rare that a moderator has to call time on topic. I wish people who are supporters of airports other than MAN/BHX/BRS/LBA/CWL would join in and we would have a far better understanding of the UK Civil Aviation scene. :):):)

Great post by 'Seasider' there, and can I just highlight the use of that word 'supporters'. Many contributors actually work or have a background in the industry and do not view an airport in the manner one might support a football team. In my case, I have been analysing commercial aviation (and particularly civil airports) industry-wide for about 35 years. To do this successfully one needs a broad knowledge of UK airports generally. Of course I do wish success upon my 'local' airport, but not to the exclusion of the rest of the industry. I actually have good friends working at airports around the country (including BHX) and wish them all to enjoy a prosperous future.

Amongst those outside the industry, one does sometimes encounter what comes across as quite an alien mindset: how dare you visit / comment on [insert airport name] when you're from [insert different city name]. This approach seems illogical to me; it is a good thing to be more broad-minded and tolerant, even if outsiders sometimes highlight an issue which may be seen as a 'sore point' locally.

Following exchanges on here over the last couple of days, I would like to make one thing completely clear to those in doubt. My recent postings on this thread contain NO criticism of BHX or the City of Birmingham at all. None. Not my M.O. Quite the opposite, in fact (check back for yourselves). I've also not in recent memory commented on BHX gaining or losing any route (out of 'envy' or any other motive). And if I do so it will be to add insight / commentary from a professional perspective. Goading and triumphalism is best confined to the football terraces in my view.

I do pick up on factual errors and address them on any forum, but not in the manner of having a dig. In answer to that question: "how would you like it if we did that on your forum?" I say two things. I don't have a forum. These forums belong to Aviador and his staff ... they are kindly provided for us all to use as guests so we can exchange ideas and learn from each other. Many contributors work in the industry but across different specialisations, so the knowledge-base is broad. None of us alone have all the answers, hence why the forum format is so useful. On the second point, I would say YES, if you can make an informed contribution to a forum covering another airport then please do so. Absolutely. Why ever not?

Perhaps a good first step would be to not automatically presume mischief or trolling when a poster who resides close to a 'rival airport' comments on a hot topic. We all know that does happen sometimes, but many contributors offer a much broader perspective and do not post on the basis of rivalry. Attempts to chase them off in favour of a closed local clique will devalue the knowledge we are able to share and (in some cases) keep us uninformed.

Ultimately, we need to decide whether we want an '[airport name] supporters club' or a well-informed knowledge exchange welcoming all contributors. Some do favour the former; I will always promote the latter. If in doubt, read my earlier posts again and see for yourselves whether they are critical of BHX or the city of Birmingham. There's nothing there. Only a factual correction to a misinformed comment about Manchester. Nothing which should inflame when read with a cool head.

Good points made by both Seasider and EGCC_MAN.

It would be great to have many more airports covered in far greater detail on F4A in terms of posters and posts, so that those who want to can get a wider appreciation of the industry around the country. That said, I have a feeling that even with those airports that do get good coverage we have a significant number of members who don't read beyond their own airport and perhaps neighbouring ones. Of course that's not a criticism as some people haven't the time and/or aren't really interested in airports in other parts of the country.

I'm lucky in that being retired I have the time to read every post on F4A and I do. I've learned a lot from knowledgeable posters writing about many airports for which I thank them.

I've never been in the industry but for some reason that I still can't fathom airport and airline economics have long held a fascination for me and I've followed the subject for well over 30 years. Since I went online just under 20 years ago it's been so much easier to obtain information and opinions about the subject, although in my early Internet days there wasn't the profusion of aviation websites and message boards that we can enjoy these days.

Oh, just one little point, the website is owned by Aviador who has devoted a lot of time, effort and not a small amount of cash in developing it to the current standard. The mods and I are guests like everyone else.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
