The summer timetable has now been updated, BHX-Stockholm originally showing at 3x weekly is now back to 6x weekly with a mix of 737-600s and 800s. Good news although the times are shocking.

Scandinavian Airlines is moving from a mid-afternoon departure to an evening flight from Birmingham airport on the recently launched Birmingham – Stockholm route. Starting on 27 June, the service will operate every day except Saturday, using a Boeing 737-600.

Hans Dyhrfort, SAS Regional General Manager Western Europe, says: “SAS enhanced schedule will make the route far more convenient for business passengers – as well as leisure passengers. Business passengers will now be able to conduct a full day of work in the UK before flying to Stockholm and vice versa. We are very pleased to be able to adjust our timetable to meet their needs. Plus, the new departure times are also an excellent complement to our Copenhagen route, providing our customers with more choice of flights beyond Scandinavia.”

Martyn Lloyd, Commercial Director for Birmingham Airport, added, “SAS has responded to the requirements of its customers, particularly business travellers who need to depart later in the evening to accommodate a full working day in either Birmingham or Stockholm. I’m confident that this move will be welcomed by customers currently having to fly into airports further away to return home, and we praise the airline for making this change.”

The daily flights to Stockholm will operate every day except Saturday. Weekday flights from Stockholm will depart at 17:30, with a return flight from Birmingham at 19:45. On Sundays, the departure time will be 18:20 from Stockholm and 20:35 from Birmingham.

Prices start from £96*, one-way including all taxes and charges.

Blue 1 will be operating some 717's to/from Stockholm from October, more and more are being added. Copenhagen is showing as a 2x daily A319.

Looks like Sept 17th will be the last visit of an SAS MD80 to BHX before the type is retired.

It was nice to see an A321 from Copenhagen this morning, makes a change from the usual CRJ9/A319/A320's.

I couldn't tell you but I agree they'd be better suited.

Blue1 seem to be doing many of the flights now with the 717, although SAS are still using the 736/8 from time to time.

This may or my not be potentially bad news for BHX but Blue 1 is to reduce it's fleet by 4 B717s and cutting 160 jobs.
Whether it has any affect on the SAS service from Stockholm remains to be seen but BHX does not need another high profile service being cut or withdrawn.
I have said it before but I think the close proximity to both LHR and MAN does have an effect on our services, but there is demand for many routes served from all the above airports. What BHX needs is a team that can work with airlines to promote/market the routes properly to get the best fares and timings.
It would also be nice just for a change for an airline to actually try a route from BHX before it flies from elsewhere.Too many times routes have been operated from BHX purely because they have been successful elsewhere. It has worked sometimes(EK,TK etc)but not all the time and the Stockholm route could be another to suffer!!!

Loads have been improving recently, however again like Germanwings, they are often reduced to silly timings and frequency some times of the year and for the Business trvaller, this just is not convenient for them.

I think the smaller 737's are right for this route or indeed the 717, but the bigger 737's and A320s are too big for the route until it has become more established, then i would hope that like CPH has grown over the years, Stockholm could eventually accomodate larger aircraft.

Sorry guys but i am the messenger of bad news.

Not a good week for BHX as SAS closing BHX-ARN from the end of this month.

To be honest, dont think any of us are surprised by TXL or ARN, a route that does not operate for 3/4 months of the year and isnt even daily is not going to be popular with business passengers. And these are the passengers who make a route work or not.

Oh well, some you win and some you lose, cant forget BHX is having a good year and dont see why it wont continue for the rest of the year, does put a dent in our European network though after it was improving alot.

In fairness Sweden pretty much shuts down during that time so no point in running flights; IMHO neither TXL or ARN had any ongoing connections that couldn't be reached through other hubs such as FRA or CPH. Looking at the positives though we've seen capacity increases on other LH and SAS routes in recent months. It's been said before but MAD, LIS and HEL and the major hubs missing from BHX.

I agree, BHX seems to give with one hand and take away with the other, we get back Cologne and lose Berlin, we get back Oslo and lose Stockholm, it's the way it's always been

It's a shame about Berlin but (although it's not nice to lose any route) I won't lose much sleep over Stockholm. Get TAP to Lisbon, Finnair to Helsinki and someone to start Madrid and I'll be very happy.

Looking at random dates for next year and Copenhagen seems to be an A319 in the morning and an A320 in the evening which is an increase from the current morning CRJ and evening A319/A320. There is still the odd CRJ flight dotted around but the vast majority looks to be on the A319/320, of course we also see the A321 from time to time.
