I've noticed over this weekend that there are now quite a few new Billboards in and around Leeds area that KLM are currently using to advertise there extra flights and more onward world wide connections from Leeds/Bradford via there Amsterdam hub

Leeds is also featured in this month's Holland Herald (the in-flight magazine). There is a one-page feature on the city (in the 'Touchdown' section).

Not sure if it was a one-off or if it a regular thing, but last night's KL1551 (AMS to LBA) was a Fokker 100 rather than the usual F70 (and with 91 pax, a full fokker at that).

I think it was a one off. I'm sure WYIA mentioned the F100's would make an appearance when the F70's were out of action.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

cmj - it is the intention that some flights will be operated by F100 equipment dependent upon loads, although most will be F70. This was confirmed by the Airport MD at the last consultative committee.

Hope that helps

Thanks. I think it's a good sign that LBA can pretty much fill a F100 (even allowing for it being the friday evening flight which must be one of the busiest with people returning home for the weekend).

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

If one or more of the Leeds flights change to a F100, you won't have them for long! I've been informed that KLM has ordered 5 Embraer 190s to replace the remaining 5 F100s.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Well it will be nice to see them here Ryan. I have seen 2 or 3 F100's recently coming into LBA, and whilst it will be sad to see the last of the F100's (which have been in the skies over LBA for some years now - ever since BMi bought them to replace the DC9-30's in fact), the E190's are a nice aircraft and it will be nice to see a few more of them here to add to the occasional Flybe visitor.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I am sure the first outbound was an F100 again today.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Friday's late afternoon flight into LBA was again a F100, so it is looking as though whilst they are still in operation, we are going to be seeing quite a few of them, which bodes well for our chances of seeing the E190's as the F100's are finally retired.

Well I can confirm Heather that yesterday afternoon's KL1549/1550 rotation and the night-stopping inbound KL69W services where both operated by Fokker 100, PH-OFP.

I've recently heard that KLM will no longer be basing crew at LBA.

Flights will be operated by Amsterdam based crew and aircraft so they will be night stopping as opposed to basing at Leeds Bradford airport.

So far as I can tell this wont make any difference to the airlines flight programme.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I'm unsure as to why they do that, does it save them money by doing that?

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Interesting as normally when KLM get rid of a UK based crew station it’s because the flights will no longer be operated by the City Hopper’s Fokker aircraft anymore. This happened recently at Birmingham when there Amsterdam route was upgraded to KLM Mainline, Boeing 737's instead of the Fokker 100's and at other bases throughout Europe that have seen either the KLM Mainline Boeing’s or the new Embrear 190 aircraft take over the Fokker 100 & 70's routes.

I know an ex BHX crew member who moved to LBA and he didn’t want to be based at AMS on either the Mainline Boeings or take a course to be upgraded onto the Embrear's 190s. So he decided to be transferred to the LBA base to be able keep on the City Hopper, Fokker's. So if and when I see him this next I’ll ask him what’s happening. At a guess he will be wanting to move onto MME or HUY base next if the LBA Fokker base is closing...

Interesting Fact: Did you know that KLM’s LBA base is there biggest out station in the UK now a days?

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

It will be interesting to see what happens. A transfer to KLM mainline would be great news in my opinion. I am sure KLM are impressed with loads at LBA, which I understand are averaging over 80% across all flights since the extra rotation was introduced. Certainly the LBA bosses are very happy indeed at the response, having persuaded KLM to add the extra rotation in the first place.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

If they do decide to move the LBA route to the KLM mainline, would there be any point in operating the KLM Cityhopper brand?!
I do know that the Cityhopper airline has a few Embraer's on order, and as Lbaspotter said, LBA is their largest out-station in the UK, so operating such the Cityhopper brand seems pointless then...?!

How do Jet2's loads look know that KLM's are busy?? I never knew that so many people flew KLM, I always thought Jet2 was the cheaper of the two, although whilst writing this - It is a great way to access On-Ward connections I suppose...

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Take it from me KLM are often cheaper, sometimes by quite a lot.

I agree 100% KLM do work out a lot cheaper than Jet2 most off the time point to point. They (KLM) also make onward world wide connetcions alot easier! How could an airline Like Jet2 ever compete agnst te likes of KLM on a direct route to/from Amsterdam?

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I've never had a problem getting a flight to AMS on JET2 cheaper than KLM. Last year it was £65 against £105. The passenger who is flexible on dates, books well in advance, will always manage to get a cheaper flight on JET2. If you book at the last minute and are on fixed dates then KLM may well be cheaper.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Got to agree with Seasider on this one. Looking for a one way ticket early August from Amsterdam to Leeds and Jet2 are considerably cheaper than KLM. Relating previous postings we use KLM regularily for onward connections via Amsterdamm, primarily KLM to Dubai to visit family, and on every occassion the flight has always been full or nearly full whether it be a morning, afternoon or evening flight. It wouold be nice to see the Embrear 190 take over on the route on a permanent basis.

They have been doing for 8 years! Average loads to Amsterdam with Jet2 are around 70/80 most days and 90/100+ on weekends. If you book more than a month in advance, Jet2 are always cheaper.

Very few KLM passengers are day trippers, Jet2 cater for the point to point traffic between Leeds and Amsterdam, typical loads on KLM is around 50/60 per flight, with around 40-50 connecting onto other services. Jet2 have got the point to point market pretty much to themselves, KLM obviously catering for the connecting traffic. The two late morning/afternoon KLM flights are pointless for travel to/from Amsterdam so really only 50% of KLM services (early morning & late evening) are realistic for a day trip, and of course the prices on these flights are £150+ minimum. The late morning and afternoon KLM flights are always cheaper, but for comparison purposes are often priced similar to Jet2. Of course Jet2 services enable a day trip and 'cheap' KLM flights do not.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
