[textarea]Glasgow Airport poaches Polish flights from Prestwick

The European airline Wizz is switching two of its services from Gdansk and Warsaw from Prestwick to Glasgow Airport.

Wizz Air said the move to Glasgow would be more "convenient" for existing customers and was a "a step towards future passenger and route growth".

The carrier began operating flights between Scotland and Poland more than six years ago.

It leaves Ryanair as the only scheduled passenger airline using Prestwick.[/textarea]

I would say Budapest has improved slightly with the Tuesday return not being pre 6 am anymore.

Bucharest is awful for a Scottish person going for a weekend break
I'm not sure Wizz Air target is the weekend break msrket. Its more likely they are aiming the flights at Eastern Europeans who reside in the UK.

Both Budapest and Bucharest are on sale for W24/25, still at 2x week.

Only notable change is Bucharest changes from Monday and Friday to Wednesday and Sunday

Changes filed this morning for Summer 2024 with the addition of a Thursday flight to Budapest, with some pretty horrid flight times. I have outlined the WIZZ Schedule for the first week of July below.

Tuesday

1605-1815 BUD-GLA
1850-2250 GLA-BUD

Wednesday

1555-1800 OTP-GLA
1835-0015 GLA-OTP

Thursday

Sunday

I have been aware of this since yesterday, but the news was confirmed by Glasgow Airport this afternoon.

Bucharest will be "suspended from mid June until the end of S24. I do not have an official reason for this, but WIZZ is experiencing major aircraft issues and is already using multiple leased units in OTP. The route was scheduled to have a timetable change from the date of the suspension, which makes me think that operational reasons will be the official reason provided.

Budapest will increase from 2 to 3 weekly as planned on June 20th.

In W24/25 both BUD and OTP will operate 2x week, both operating Tuesday and Saturday.

January-March 2025 will see BUD increase from 2x week to 3x week, similar to this summer with the extra flight operating on Thursdays.

Tuesday

1810-2035 BUD-GLA W62223 A321N
2110-0105 GLA-BUD W62224 A321N

Thursday

0600-0825 BUD-GLA W62223 A321N
0900-1255 GLA-BUD W62224 A321N

Saturday

1810-2035 BUD-GLA W62223 A321N
2110-0105 GLA-BUD W62224 A321N

Still no official word on Bucharest which is still showing as a destination from Glasgow on both the app and website.

Yes it is. Nice also to see some good news for Glasgow Airport as well.
A few years ago Wizz announced Liverpool to Rome. Suddenly Ryanair announced the same, and affectively destroyed Wizz's new route before it had chance to get off the ground. I hope Ryanair don't do this here. Its not unusual that once they get rid of a rival, they then drop the route themselves. Not helping that airport or city at all.

Milan and Glasgow were each others largest unserved markets in Western Europe so the data seems positive, and with Jet2 moving FCO to Thu, Sun next summer it means 5 weekly FCO flights on 5 different days which should help as well, especially with LS being pricey.

Lets hope the good news continues

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
