Indeed, an upward trend for the month which is good to see after a long period of stagnation. Lets hope the trend continues into next month.

More good news with feb's figures up to 34,741.

Unfortunatley I am out of space on my picture service and have not completed configuring an ftp client to my webspace where I am planning to start posting my table. I have made the new table but can't post it at the moment...

Hi Muddycoffee, have you tried uploading it as an image direct to the forum using the attachment option?

thanks I didn't but I have sorted my ftp problem out and here is my new table old style!

Thanks for the update once again Muddycoffee. Some light at the end of the tunnel. Good to see things improving.

As things stand, net loss predicted for the summer.

Passengers stats for March 2012

A total of 40,201 passengers used Doncaster Sheffield airport during March, 1.4 up on the same month last year.

A total of 827,180 used the airport during the previous 12 months, down -4.9% on the year earlier.

The Doncaster airport forum has been so quiet of late, so I can only assume there's so little happening there. There's little sign of "green shoots" like some other airports are seeing but March still saw growth all be it on the low side, it's still growth.

Caa Passenger Stats for May 2012

During May a total of 68,122 passengers passed through Doncaster Sheffield airport, down -23.1% on May last year.

A total of 801,965 passengers used the airport over the past twelve months down -8.1 on the year before.

All in all a very disappointing Month for Doncaster airport with passenger figures back into a downward spiral.

When passenger numbers are not good in the first place, a 23% drop is huge - almost a quarter of passengers gone, just at the time when things should be picking up for the summer. It appears from looking at Ceefax that there are only 2 Thomson 737's based this year? Is that a reduction on last year or was it the same? If so, there must be some substantial reductions in the passenger numbers carried by Wizzair - perhaps the result of the competition from up the road from Ryanair.

Peel isn't doing well at Doncaster's sister airport in Liverpool either where the airport has seen almost a 20% reduction in passengers. It seems as though the much talked about "Peel deal" is now off and airlines are having to fend for themselves and pay the proper charges. The European economy is showing no sign of recovery and until that happens the situation at Doncaster airport is likely to stay much the same.

I believe Thomson reduced to two based aircraft for this summers program as opposed to three in S11. There had been a net loss of four weekly Ryanair flights due to their focus on EMA and LBA. Flybe are not running their Belfast City flights this summer either.

I'm not sure if the 'Peel Deal' has been revoked since Vantage have taken over (assuming it existed in the first place), or whether the competitor airports have since matched or bettered that deal. In my opinion, current focus will be on providing a cost effective operating environment for the likes of Thomson. Difficult times across the board and there are signs that things can only get worse.

You're spot on with that assesment Pug, the only way for DSA at present is to look after what they have, and pick up whatever they can.
DSA, with the 'Peel deal' are not the only airport operating group to offer such deals. I'm guessing Ryanair didn't jump in at LBA without a decent incentive too. Another factor is that where LBA, (& even HUY and EMA as part of MAG Group) score over DSA is that the client base is already well proven over a number of years, where DSA starts from scratch in 2005. - That's Peels ( now Vantage's) problem to overcome, which as we all know, was looking on target pre 2007, but is proving much more difficult in times of recession. That's why the new MD & his (small) team at DSA are right to concentrate on what they have, & then try to increase business in small increments by building good relationships within the industry.
Unfortunately, Doncaster can't call on the marketing resources of MAG or LBA, so it's only ever going to be slow growth initially.

CAA Passenger Statistics for June 2012

During June a total of 79,580 passengers passed through Doncaster Sheffield airport, down -19.9% on June last year.

A total of 781,616 passengers used the airport over the past twelve months down -9.6 on the year before.

All in all another very disappointing Month for Doncaster airport with passenger figures continuing to decline with it's annual passenger totals at there lowest since the airport opened.

In some quarters, much is being made of the future FARRRS road link ( now its finally been approved etc.) with high expectations that by reducing the travel times to Sheffield and the motorway network , airlines will be so encouraged they will 'move' in. The road cannot but be anything but good for the airport...and Rossington...and the proposed inland freight port but, I really do wonder about DSA's optimism that this will be the encouragement that DSA needs if it is to reverse the current trend. ;)

It needs airlines that are prepared to take a big chance and make a long term committment. Much has been said of the relative cost of flights compared to other airports. The key is that Sheffield is well within easy reach of both MAN and EMA, and whilst the road will reduce journey times between Sheffield and the airport, the number of airlines that would be required to invest in DSA to reduce costs is completely unlikely.

I believe that had DSA opened ten years earlier, it would be a different story now. Just look at LPL, however even at LPL they are losing their grip as the bigger players have wisened due to the change in focus of the short haul market towards low-cost airlines.

Nobody can predict way into the future, one day perhaps there will be a revolution in low-cost long-haul travel from anywhere with a runway long-enough. But then again such routes would still need a large catchment area with high propensity to fly, and the 787 will open up many airports such as LBA which are not as suitable currently for such operations.

People think that because I'm 'negative', I want the airport to close. I dont. I am dissappointed it was built in the first place, but the airport is an employer and I would not wish it upon those employed there to lose their jobs. I just cannot see DSA as a growth area, and as it appears neither do the airlines. If DSA manage to attract any new operators then it will invariably be due to airline disagreements with other airports in the area, rather than the new bit of tarmac.

As far as passenger figures, assuming nothing changes then the losses should bottom out this summer, and possibly improve slightly next year.

I know it was to be expected but these are the worst set of June figures since DSA opened.... and @ 84,969 July hasn't bucked the trend either. I really wonder what is going through the 'corporate mind' of Vantage, with LPL also suffering something of a downturn and MME being 'sent back' to Peel?

Operating losses at DSA were reduced from £3.7million to £3.4million In the last financial year, whilst at LPL they have managed to increase revenue per passenger, however there was growth at LPL too which has now turned to significant declines in passenger figures. I think the days of Peel Deals are over, and much has been said of Vantages unwillingness to (as they put it) pay airlines to fly from their airports, like they claim is happening at MAN and LBA.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
