We don't know if VY were forced off or chose to drop it and then FR came in. I doubt they would allow the latter without a fight given that BCN is their home turf.

That is true but they did have the route onsale and then dropped it and now we have Ryanair launching the route. There is one good thing in that CWL now has a Ryanair movement every day during S19.We don't know if VY were forced off or chose to drop it and then FR came in. I doubt they would allow the latter without a fight given that BCN is their home turf.
This is great news - Didn’t see this one coming.
You watch FR’s figures completely eclipse that of VY on this route - Brand awareness means everything in this industry.
A big base I believe - 13 aircraft?Do we know days and timings? also does FR have a base in bcn?
Tuesdays and Saturdays 2 weeklyDo we know days and timings? also does FR have a base in bcn?
Yes it has. BCN went onsale originally as the same as this year. 3 weekly flights Tuesday Thursday and Saturday then about a month ago they took them off sale. Alicante and Malaga and PMI are still onsale.A big base I believe - 13 aircraft?
Has Vueling announced its summer 2019 schedule to Barcelona?
I don't see it happening unless they based aircraft and honestly i don't see that happening at least not in the short term. BCN was Vuelings weakest route as they'd already downsized it from 4 weekly to 3 weekly the other routes they are stronger on.Would members view it as a good thing or not if FR encroached further into vueling's cwl territory, say pmi for example?
Actually Vueling pulled the route from their schedule over a month ago.
Therefore I would argue that If this is the case then Cardiff Airport management have done well to find a replacement so swiftly.
It is interesting that FR have gone for a city route and not a package holiday route like ALC.Agreed.
Given that ALC was once publicly stated to be a very well performing route for VY I would think FR would want a piece of that pie as well. Hopefully they can run alongside each other on the Spanish routes if it were to ever happen.
