I can't believe how low the EK passenger numbers are. There has to be a mistake. Only 1000 passengers more than 2015 yet there's been a 3rd daily service and the 2-class A380 operating compared to June 2015!?! When MAN went to 1 daily A380 and 2 77Ws in 2011, the passengers numbers were around 50,000 level the month after the 3rd service started. I would have anticipated broadly similar figures to be reported by BHX.

David
I think the EK figures are correct remember BHX more so than MAN is affected by Indian sub-continent traffic (or the lack of it during Ramadam and monsoon season) plus we have thrown Qatar into the mix too.
Figures have recovered strongly in July & August with 614 inbound on today 380 plus a fulll Qatar

Does Three Widebody flights meet demand or is it frequency matter? If one knows a bus leaves at set times, TIMETABLES????

Passengers book and turn up because the bus shall be there, the driver is not interested so long as he/she departs on time, the service operates whether full or empty.

Is it not the job of the sales team?

Birmingham Airport has recorded its busiest ever month in its 77 year history with almost 1.3 million passengers recorded in a single month.

August saw a total of 1,285,911 passengers travel through the airport, up by 13% compared to the same month last year - equivalent to over 147,000 more passengers.

passengers-in-terminal.jpg

The airport also recorded its busiest ever day on 26th August 2016 when a total of 45,906 passengers passed through the terminal.

Both long haul and short haul traffic saw significant passenger growth with long haul up by 17.2% and short haul up by 12.5% year-on-year.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham Airport, said: “August was not only our busiest ever month but it was also the fourth consecutive month this year in which we’ve recorded over a million passengers. It’s also our eighteen consecutive month of record breaking growth demonstrating that travellers are taking advantage of Birmingham Airport’s ease of access and choice of flights.

“September is expected to also be a busy month as we welcome back business travellers after the summer holidays and those choosing to go on holiday outside of the school holiday period. We look forward to welcoming these passengers as we enter the autumn travel period.”

Scheduled traffic accounted for 87% of the total passenger volume for August and saw a 25.3% growth compared to the same month last year. Charter traffic accounted for 13% of the total.

Destinations which saw the greatest year-on-year growth rate were those in the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Scheduled destinations with an increase in traffic were Madrid (+362.5%), Heraklion (+179.2%), Malta (+93.5%), Biarritz (+93.1%), Menorca (+68.6%) and Palma de Mallorca (+63%).

Charter destinations with significant growth were Gerona (+252.5%), Fuerteventura (+141.3%), Skiathos (+97.7%), Venice (+60.6%), Alicante (+44.6%) and Lanzarote (+35.5%).

Some July figures.

Copenhagen +50, Berlin +69 (needs competition), Corfu +25 (new route with Ryanair), Dublin +21, Verona +122 (another new Ryanair route), Alicante +31, Almeria +92, Barcelona +39, Girona +171, Madrid +313, Malaga +27, Palma +38, Canaries all up with Tenerife +52, Keflavik +58, Istanbul +10, Burgas +35, Vilnius saw 3154 compared to 2819 to Kaunas last year, Ashgabad -17, Dubai +41, Delhi +1, Islamabad +32,

Numbers from newer routes Lisbon 5107, Prague 5457, Budapest 4283, Warsaw 4244, Poznan and Wroclaw almost match the more established Ryanair Polish routes, Bucharest 2892, Doha 8898

Flybe French routes, Avignon +45, Bastia +30, Bergerac +74, Biarritz +154, Bordeaux +52, Brest +105, La Rochelle +152. Limoges, Nantes and Rennes all look fairly healthy. Ryanair's Perpignan was even.

Sorry Ray, just to clarify those initial figures are percentage increases? If so a 41% jump to Dubai is a result!

I wouldn't be surprised if the 41% increase for Dubai is in part (besides the addition of the 3rd flight) due to the fact that the A380 is now operating one of the flights (as opposed to 3x B773). Many people when flying Emirates will only fly on the A380. Until now, people have probably been travelling to Manchester & Heathrow to fly the A380, but can now do so from BHX.

Amazing to think that Emirates now offers just over 1 million seats between BHX and Dubai each year. Strong growth could be a sign of another A380 perhaps? Once Emirates operates a route, they are very keen to upgrade it to an A380 as quickly as possible.

The A380 is definitely a crowd puller.

The big positive for me is the Air India figures. Despite a huge capacity increase going east they seem to have more than held their own.

My moneys on Dublin becoming the first 1 million p.a

It certainly will be close between the two. With 2x B773 and an A380 (albeit only from the end of March), Emirates will have provided just over 1 million seats between Birmingham and Dubai this year.

Does anybody have the figures on how many seats between Birmingham and Dublin this year or next?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
