  • ATR 72-600 aircraft will service routes to meet additional demand.
  • Up to 50,000 seats will be available between Leeds and Dublin during the Winter season. Stobart Air, operator of Aer Lingus regional routes, has announced it will increase seat capacity by 20% on Dublin routes from Leeds Bradford Airport starting from 28 October 2019. The increase will see up to three daily flights on Monday, Friday and Sunday operated by Stobart Air.

Additional seat capacity will meet the demand of Irish and UK business customers in particular, who require choice and flexibility of flight times, facilitating onward connections to the US via Aer Lingus transatlantic services. The increase will also benefit US customers and Border Protection pre-clearance at Dublin Airport, saving time and avoiding any delays in the US on arrival.

Stobart Air will operate ATR 72-600 aircraft to service the flights between Leeds and Dublin. This additional capacity totals to an additional 1,700 seats monthly.

Commenting on the announcement, Graeme Buchanan, Managing Director at Stobart Air, said:

“Stobart Air continuously strives to meet passenger demand across our route network. We closely monitor trends and prepare for busy seasonal periods which enables us to consistently deliver an efficient, reliable service. The additional seats will ensure flexibility for our passengers, providing business and leisure customers with a wider choice.

Commenting on the announcement, John Cunliffe, Aviation & Commercial Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said:

“We’re delighted to add additional capacity from Leeds to Dublin from Winter 2019, and I am sure this additional capacity will prove popular for business customers. In particular, the new mid-afternoon flight facilitates onward connections with Aer Lingus transatlantic flights, with reduced transfer times and greater choice of connections available.

“The investment of additional capacity by Stobart Air on the route further confirms the economic significance of the Leeds City Region, the largest economy in the UK outside of London. At Leeds Bradford Airport, we offer passenger routes to over 70 direct destinations, with onward connections to all corners of the globe and I am delighted to be working with Stobart Air to support the development both of Leeds Bradford and the wider region”

Returned to LBA from Toronto this morning. Around half of the passengers arriving on the link from Dublin were clearly long haul travellers. Competitive pricing meant that we were able to travel business with Aer Lingus at almost half the BA cost from LBA. The only downside was that lounge staff at LBA initially refused us entry, saying incorrectly, that we were only entitled to access the lounges in Dublin. Each time I use Aer Lingus from LBA, I am extremely impressed by the service they provide.

Is it still possible to book Aer Lingus Business class from Leeds on a connecting ticket?

I recently booked but found even when selecting Business class the option presented was always economy on the Leeds/Dublin leg.... Shame as I'll miss out on the lounge this time round.

Even better news is that Leeds/Bradford has retained the 3rd daily Aer Lingus (Stobart Air) Dublin rotation on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays during summer 2020 season.

There is no business class on the EI flights between LBA and DUB, it's a one cabin configuration. Same for most of EI short haul flights both mainline and the Stobart ones. So you can book business but the short haul will be in Y - albeit I suspect you will get lounge access and fast track at LBA as part of that itinerary.

Taking my 2 grandkids and their mum and dad to Florida over Christmas and New Year....6 of us in total....big treat business class for us all....British Airways LGW to TPA were over 23k for us all, Aer Lingus from MAN to MCO £11,760.00 and only a 2 hour layover in DUB....
Assume you clear customs in DUBLIN so a win win situation.
My daughter always uses Aer Lingus via DUB for her LBA to New York business trips, used to go via Shannon, before Dublin did customs clearance.
Hope my grandchildren not reading this thread, enjoy the trip.

Just out of curiosity and for comparison purposes, did you price up Aer LIngus from LBA? They also do connections to Florida - it was one of the first interlining routes they announced when Stobart started operating the Aer Lingus Regional route to Dublin.

Hopefully. Last time we landed at MCO it took 2h 45m for us to drive out of the car hire lot.
Immigration was an absolute nightmare, when you clear customs in DUB I presume when you land at MCO you are classed as a domestic passenger?

That is correct.

Surely, overall taking travelling to Manchester, allowing for M62 or train delays the overall time taken would be about the same plus you get plenty of time to get the most out of the business lounge at Dublin.

Roughly same from Otley, but only on a good day, plus cost of taxi to LBA is always less than parking at MAN. I frequently compromise to be able to fly from LBA, last year had 5 hours in lounge at LHR on way to SIN, however I accept that keeping young children entertained for 5 hours is not easy and might have been the deciding factor.

Aer lingus would be a great option if 1. They introduced a premium economy...its either economy or business. 2. No free drinks in economy. Doesn't matter to me but it does to a lot of people. Also, their competitors offer complimentary drinks. 3 price..their economy is expensive compared to others. I can get premium economy with virgin to Los Angeles for the same price as Aer Lingus economy.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
