Flights also book able in GDS. Good news all round. I think this will really prove to EI the potential of LBA too. Only slight snag here is the ATRs aren't as good in xwinds compared to the Dash. May result in a few more diversions but still better than no route at all

I am no pilot but you say they are not good in xwinds, isn't that down to how good the pilot is who's flying it?..a good experienced pilot in an ATR v a fairly newly qualified one in the DASH 8 would win hands down everytime, no?

I'd agree, the dash does perform better in crosswinds. One example would be when we had them horrific gales at LBA at the end of last year and the only aircraft that seemed to get in were the Dash8 and J41. Propjobs do definitely tend to be better, the pilots have no fear!

In other news though, fantastic to see as always a route saved by another airline. Glad Aer Lingus decided to take a punt, which I think will work wonders for them and long may it continue.

Now this has been confirmed however, I'd like to see easyJet's next move.

A320: 38kts
Dash 8: 32kts
ATR42: 45kts
ATR72: 35kts

Various other elements will come into play also (pilot experience, is the wind steady or gusting, what diversion airports are readily available, how much fuel does the aircraft have; fuel = time; etc).

If say the crosswind was 35kts, all aircraft above could commence an approach, but unless the crosswind dropped below 32kts, at some point the Dash 8 would have to discontinue the approach and go around.

Not sure of the other aircraft, but the 38kts on the A320 is the maximum demonstrated crosswind, i.e. that was the maximum crosswind the flight test team flew the aircraft in. Whilst in theory the aircraft could land in more than 38kts crosswind, most if not all airlines use 38 as their limit.

those are pretty good figures for the ATRs! Also nice to see that we are only 2 flights less mon-fri than MAN and BHX but I imagine if the route does well a midday tues and weds flights will be added.

I think the condition of the runway also plays a part-eg.wet/damp/dry,contaminated with slush or snow,etc.

Very interesting to think Aer Lingus have decided to give the route a blast (if this gets confirmed?). I do think they are more than capable of pulling the route off but I also think having easyJet would also be a good factor for the airport.

It begs the question (since easyJet have applied for slots) if they could work in unison? Where one airline operates BHD and the other BFS. Interested to see what comes of this.

It also begs the question "where are EI/Stobart getting the aircraft to service these 7 new routes"

I believe that they had 3 to 4 aircraft based there so I'd imagine that may be enough. Also have they kept the IOM operation as well?

I would have thought they would have planes available that weren't flying EI to DUB. As there is a gradual increase in flights, that will give them time to resource more ATRs if required.
