Just find it funny that on a forum dedicated to airports, airlines and the aviation industry as a whole, there's a number of people who would rather travel by other modes of transport...and by the sounds of things, regardless of Covid!
I worked at LBA through the 9/11 attacks and saw the damage to the aviation industry it caused. Passengers were scared, everyone was scared. The crew of a Sabena flight invited me on board for coffee and biscuits during a turnaround of one of their last flights where they thanked me for doing my job. The whole period was a surreal experience. A few months on and passengers were kicking off saying what's all this in aid of, why all the fuss and I'd have to remind them about the towers. People have fickle memories. They easily forget. Covid will be no different in the end. It might be with us for a long time but people will eventually just revert back to doing things as they did before.

A number of posts have been moved across to the "How concerned are you about the Coronavirus?" thread in the Current Affairs forum.

Please feel free to continue discussion over there, but respect the fact that this thread is for discussing Aer Lingus at Leeds.

Thank you for your understanding.

Is an A321LR suitable for even the east coast of USA, New York for example. If so I would think there is sufficient demand for a daily service.

Range is around 4500 miles, LBA to New York around 3400 miles so more than suitable. If only we had our new terminal now.

I can't see a problem with the current terminal if we're not expecting pre-covid throughput in the short term (although not for a minute advocating that the new terminal is not required!!)
I'm sure the LBA senior managers will be looking at this.

Can't see there is a problem with pro-covid passenger numbers as the A321 is not much different in passenger capacity as the 757 which was a regular here at LBA prior to Jwt2's decision to move them to MAN. Can't remember us having any difficulties handling the 757 through the terminal. Only issue I can see, and I@m not an expert on this and other may wish to comments, is the A321LR able to take off fully loaded from our short runway?

There were plenty of problems handling 757s - virtually every time one landed and the 230 or so passengers had to pick up their baggage from a totally inadequate baggage reclaim hall. Add the odd 737 arriving at the same time and it was chaotic.
As for the A321LR and the NEO, LBA management are quoting that these aircraft are the future at LBA and are capable of operating transatlantic from our 'short' runway (which is more or less the same length at that at Bristol), so its a reasonable assumption that yes they can use LBA without a problem. I would imagine that the shortcomings of the original A321s have been ironed out in the later incarnations of this aircraft, otherwise Airbus are not really making much progress.

The runway at LBA is 240metre longer than the BRS runway, I guess it would be the fuel load that would be the main weight factor as US pax would be business and tourists rather than bucket and spade with big heavy suitcases.

You are quite correct of course but as WH has earlier pointed out, something with the capacity of a 757 arriving at the same time as a 738 or two (which often happened) causes absolute chaos in the baggage reclaim area (it isn't called The Dungeon for nothing). Couple that with the wrong baggage belts being indicated on the screens (it happened to me twice in short succession pre-covid) and all hell breaks loose unsurprisingly.

Therefore I wouldn't like to see such as the A321 here (Air Lingus or any other carrier for that matter) without the new terminal as it would be assumed that all was well with the old, knackered, terminal which regular users will, with haste, assure you is not the case.

dont worry, mayor of teeside will probably throw ££ at Aer Lingus & they will get them, like they did to Eastern hahah

The most likely candidates are, yet again, Manchester or Birmingham. Edinburgh has been mentioned but surely a central location within the UK is most likely.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
