It's reported that Aer Lingus want to set up a UK operation to use A321 aircraft direct to the USA and no surprise, they will go from MAN, which begs the question 'what then for their flights to the USA from Dublin and the feeder services from the UK?' Of all those most likely to suffer from this, LBA is one of the most likely along with LPL.Could Aer Lingus not set up regional airline? Rather then contracting it out. Or more importantly could we not get more mainline aircraft?
Nothing isset in stone about Manchester being the base - Edinburgh is, I understand still in with a shout. Just because slots have been obtained does not mean anything. It's reported that Aer Lingus want to set up a UK operation to use A321 aircraft direct to the USA and no surprise, they will go from MAN, which begs the question 'what then for their flights to the USA from Dublin and the feeder services from the UK?' It will be interesting to see what equipment Emerald use. And what Stobart do with all their ATR72s that they will no longer need. Sell them to Emerald?
Not the first airline to use this name. Remember Emerald Airlines in the early noughties and their HS748s? It was their aircraft that came close to finishing off the entire Leeds United team and management at Stansted though they were mainly a freight carrier.
I have read several reports suggesting both! All the communications I have read, say Manchester, no mention of Edinburgh. Although that does not mean they are not in with a chance.
If it goes ahead it will be a full programme with 3 or 4 based aircraft.aer lingus are not operating their full usa programme from possibly MAN, is it not just a handful of flights?

Just very occasionally, they print a fact rather than nonsense. What is clear though is that Aer Lingus UK is an option EI are looking at, and it has the potential to impact on their Regional feeder services to DUB if it operates from over the hill. Makes you wonder what Emerald Airways' boss makes of it. He has just bid, and apparently won the contract to operate these flights from 2022 yet at the same time EI are planning possible ops that may undermine their profitability.I must admit, I don't read Social Media, so that may explain it.
So tell me then what EI flights will operate to the USA from DUB in the future? surely they will recommence flights to the US, will it be a case flights to the US from both DUB and MAN?It make perfect business sense for EI. The airline has the equipment and the crew already and could be moving to an airport with excellent potential. This is based on a catchment area of 22m, has a legacy record of excellent loads to the USA and recently lost an two airline partner to that part of the world: Thomas Cook and United.
