Those reports are generated by software scanning OAG schedules. It compares this year vs last year. Any changes are reported. It uses OAG info but is not a report they produce.

All it does is divides the number of services to be operated into the number of days in the period.

So, if there are 30 days in the period and 90 return flights then 90/30 reports as 3 or if there are 15 then 15/30 reports as 0.5.

It cannot be directly interpreted as flights per week as there may be different numbers of flights operated at different times within the period. It merely shows a change.

There may be issues with rounding as well.

It requires specific knowledge to interpret the information and a knowledge of factors influencing the numbers.

Many thanks Yawner for the explanation. Much appreciated.

Well just as a change of subject VS76 from Orlando this morning was showing as A330 300 G VRAY. Does anyone know if VS are slipping the odd Airbus in to schedule or was it a one off as I thought the route was purely B747-400?
I think there was also a 747-400 departure?

I wonder if 10x weekly A333 to MCO (or an A333 doing 3x weekly top up to daily B744) would allow 4x extra A333 rotations to a combination of ATL and JFK...

When VS first took delivery of the A333's they tried them on the MCO route but my understanding at the time was that there wasn't enough capacity using A333's hence they reverted to B747's on the route. I doubt if this has altered much. It looks to me as if it's been a one off A333 although purely being a passenger I have no way of looking in to the future!!

I may have cause to use a Detroit service next summer. What are the chances there will be a direct service? If Delta has completely gone at Manchester, it won't be DL operated, so could VS do something with the extra A330 like 3x weekly SFO, 3x weekly DTW?

On last Sat. morning, I believe the VS76 inbound was an A333, while the later arrival, VS74 was the B747.
A B747 was also parked up and there were 2 x MCO departures Saturday, but whether VS75 was an A333 or B747 I'm not sure.

Regarding the winter schedules for JFK & ATL, I get the impression that VS couldn't or wouldn't provide an extra a/c for those routes and they decided what frequency they wanted for JFK with ATL getting what was left. For passengers visiting further south in Florida - Naples, Fort Myers or the Keys, - MCO means a long drive. Last year, late November, we flew to Fort Myers via ATL, returning from MIA via ATL, and the VS flights were nearly 95% full going out on a Monday and 87% on the Thurs. evening return from ATL. I don't know what VS are scheduling for MCO up to Christmas but 3 x weekly seems thin to me, bearing in mind ATL is used as a hub for passengers transferring elsewhere on DL and not just to Florida.

Well ATL/JFK is a setback to VS at MAN, but there is something to improve on for the winter after.

Adding an extra aircraft will allow daily A333 to JFK and ATL which would be a massive step forwards from previous.

After that we are looking at new routes and winter increases in winter to places like SFO, LAX and wherever else you choose to mention. Hopefully the intention remains despite the setback.

I see Richard Routes has briefly commented on VS to BOM. If he is sure is being considered, might this indicate a considered shift away from the TATL strategy?

Personally, if I was a betting man, I would not put a dime on that happening anytime soon. I'd much rather see positive signs for SFO and BOS leading to extended periods of operation, and in the case of SFO, eventually a year round service. For ATL/JFK, I hope, despite the reduced frequencies next winter, demand (and yield) will be sufficient to encourage VS to do more, as Dobbo suggests, the following winter.

The other dimension is what TCX do. Do we know what they plan for winter 17/18 for MCO, MIA (if anything) and JFK? Did someone suggest there is or was a limited number of flights to JFK before Christmas?

And it seems a 4th flight Jan-March is only on certain Fridays. Isn't JFK down to 3 x weekly from early Jan to the end of the winter timetable which would mean the aircraft is only used 6 days some weeks. Depressing.

Were both ATL and JFK daily last winter (with Delta or Virgin)? If so then that's a big drop!

PS - First post after months of reading! Big thanks to everyone who posts information :)
Thank you and we will be glad to welcome you to the forum! ATL hovered around 6x weekly to daily last winter (with the Virgin A330) and JFK was around 5x weekly (with a mix of DL 757 and 767).

Interesting to know what they do with their firearms when they land in the UK. Even though they are said to be overworked I can't imagine the marshals fly straight back to the USA on the return fight.

The management of these firearms in the UK is not something that could be discussed in detail publicly for obvious reasons but I hope that suitable arrangements are made so that even law enforcement officials of another country are not armed in pubic places within the UK.

Many thanks for that information, owebee1968.

And one would hope SFO/BOS are coming back, certainly looks like the aircraft is there to do it looking at Monday 26th:

MCO B744
MCO B744
BGI A333 (this A333 is the one that SFO/BOS use)
JFK A333
ATL A33

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
