TCX have responded to TUI's announcement of Marsa Alam in the usual way they respond to competitors at BHX ...by dropping their own service this winter.

They're becoming the new Flybe as far as one season wonders go 🙁

They are also in serious financial trouble so are unlikely to take the risk of loss of trade.bwise move if it helps to keep them going.

Marsa Alam was taken off sale a while ago, roughly around the same time that TUi announced it. They have also dropped Ibiza with their Thursday flight now gone from the timetable.

You may say this; but both operators have cooperated like this out of BRS and a few other airports for years. I remember looking a few years ago, TUI did FUE or ACE whilst TC did One or two of the Greek islands and they took seats on each other’s flights.

Thomas Cook close to securing £900m recapitalisation from investors

Struggling travel group Thomas Cook has secured what it is calling a “substantial agreement” regarding key commercial terms with investors and creditors as it seeks to stave off bankruptcy.
However, final terms remain to be agreed.
After intensive negotiations, Fosun Tourism Group has agreed to contribute £450 million of new money to the group.
In exchange, the Chinese conglomerate will acquire at least 75 per cent of the group’s tour operator, subject to the receipt of anti-trust approvals.
Some 25 per cent of the Thomas Cook airline will also be taken over by the Chinese Club Med owner.

At the same time, Thomas Cook’s banks are targeting an aggregate investment of £450 million in new money.
Existing bank debt will be converted into ownership of three quarters of the airline and the remaining quarter of the tour operator.
It is hoped the deal can be completed in early October.
Thomas Cook incurred a pre-tax loss of almost £1.5 billion for the winter half year period to March 31st.
Thomas Cook Group’s shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange, but have fallen from 130 pence per share a little over a year ago to six pence today.
The company said the current intention of the board is to maintain this listing.
However, the implementation of the proposed recapitalisation may, in certain circumstances, result in the cancellation of the listing, Thomas Cook warned.
The group wanted the new transaction “remains subject to a legally-binding agreement being reached among the parties to the recapitalisation plan and, where appropriate, the group’s other key stakeholders”.
The proposed recapitalisation plan does not impact trade creditors or customers, the company added.
Thomas Cook is one of the largest leisure travel organisations in the world, with sales of £9.6 billion in the year ended September 30th.
It has 21,000 employees and 200 own-brand hotels.
It operates from 16 source markets and serves over 22 million customers annually.

Looking at the TUi website for 2020 they currently have flights available to Lanzarote on Tue, Thur and Sun using TUi Airways. The Monday flight is on Thomas Cook and there is a second flight alternative on a Thurs again using Thomas Cook. There will almost certainly be changes from TUi before next summer so maybe the three ACE services are to be dropped?

Incidentally my in-laws are in Skiathos at the moment having flown TCX from EMA. For many years they have booked through Thomas Cook using the TUi flights from BHX but for whatever reason that option has been removed this year leaving absolutely no option from TCX between BHX and Skiathos.

Haven’t the CAA given them until the 1st October originally, then any extra 7 days until 8th October to get themselves financially back in order? So flights up to then should be ok?

Why not move the deadline to 1st November and at least get the summer schedules out the way, much cheaper for the CAA as less flights on the winter schedules?

Trouble is I think Thomas Cook don't have the cash to keep going to November, you can bet the credit card companies are quite correctly holding back money's due to Cooks in lieu of their own liabilities (it'll be in the T&Cs) and of course the fuel suppliers can shut them down in an instant as they know they will get diddly squat if the worst happens which I'm afraid is looking more likely every day all so sad, Monarch all over again with knobs on it seems love to be wrong.

Hi there all, so why are thomas cook in financial problems, haven't they a multi billionaire Chinese man from fosun, that can bail them out as they are a private company, let the owners use their own money and not tax payers money.
