..having a look at the list above, haven't a few new flights been squeezed in. Looking back, we were suggesting an additional 7x flights a week, but its actually 12x additional flights a week including a new route to Faro?!?!

A nice new route to Comiso in Sicily.

New route, new hotel: Birmingham to Sicily

Thomas Cook is launching Sicily as a new destination for Summer 2017, with the latest brochures on sale from 14 July. We will be offering flights from Birmingham to the newly opened airport in Comiso, Southern Sicily, from May to October, positioning Thomas Cook Airlines as the only airline to operate flights to the South Eastern corner of Sicily from Birmingham.

This launch will also see the opening of the SENTIDO Acacia Marina - the newest addition to Thomas Cook’s SENTIDO hotels offering, and the first to open in Italy. The SENTIDO Acacia Marina will appeal to discerning single travellers and couples who value quality and service as well as varied cuisine, spa facilities and modern accommodation.

Packed with Unesco World Heritage sites and sandy beaches, the South Eastern corner of Sicily has a character all of its own. Just a 20-minute drive from the airport, the SENTIDO Acacia Marina is located close to beautiful beaches in the authentic Sicilian resort of Marina di Ragusa, with plenty of local culture nearby.

Sicily has been added to our Italy programme as demand for the destination continues to grow, and this this area of Sicily is waiting to be explored. Both of the hotels on offer are located in the area recently explored by popular TV presenter Alexi Polizzi in her Channel 5 series “Secret Italy.”

Sicily is our fourth new destination on sale for Summer 2017, following the launch of Mykonos, Costa Del Sol and Croatia earlier this year.

Seven night on all-inclusive at the SENTIDO Acacia Marina start from £629 per person based on 2 adults sharing and departing from Birmingham on 3rd May 2017. To book www.thomascook.com, 0844 412 5970, or through the nearest Thomas Cook or Co-operative Travel.*

Flights from Birmingham to Comiso start from £50 per person at www.thomascookairlines.com

Great to see more Italian destinations offered from BHX. Italy in the past has always been very underserved from most UK airports compared to other places like Spain. Then again with places like Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia seeing a decline, Italy is well placed to offer an alternative holiday in the sun.

It seems that Comiso is an ex military airport with a very limited network, Birmingham becomes only their twelfth destination. I hope it does well as Italy is very underserved and Sicily is supposed to be beautiful.

As it stands 2016 will have seen around 31 new routes. So far we've now got 20 announced for 2017 (15 from Jet2, 3 from Thomas Cook and 2 from Thomson), will 2017 beat 31? :)

Things are starting to go one step forward and two steps back

The big Thomas Cook press release bigging up 5 based aircraft in summer 17 appears to have gone up in smoke - revised schedule 4 based with some of the extra flights appear lost.

The extra aircraft was to help the new Luton flights so 4 times it was out all day but that is around 7 or 8 flights lost. Bodrum is bookable still but not Thomas Cook and Evelop is still on the Saturday Palma but Mytilene is back adding to new routes to Malta, Naples and Cosimo. Tuesday Heraklion is now Monarch. The flights lost Sharm on Monday, Faro on Tuesday, Heraklion downgraded, Wenesday Palma & Tenerife, Thursday, Larnaca, Friday Ibiza, Saturday Mahon with Zante now Mytelini and Sunday Ibiza. I suppose for one less based than promised it is not as a bad a loss it could have been

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
