Hi folks.

Had a discussion with someone today regarding internet broadband and I've been wondering which our users think is the best?

How do you rate the following with your provider?

  • Speed
  • Customer service
  • Price

I'm with Sky and have been for quite a while.

Speed

I believe other providers are quicker but what I have is fine for my needs. The only issue I have is when I switch on the router it can take a while before the wifi kicks in but that's most likely down to a very old unit.

Customer service

In my experience Sky's customer service has been outstanding. In the eight or so years I've been with them I've only ever had a couple of issues but each time they have been dealt with swiftly and efficiently, they're also very polite on the phone.

Price

I have the internet, phone and television all with Sky and I'm happy with it. I was originally with Virgin but it seemed to be extremely cheap for the first 18 months then suddenly I was getting letter every other month saying my bill was rising. I could probably get it cheaper if I chopped and changed but to be honest I can't be bothered doing that :)

Im with Virgin, the only reason why is because you dont need to pay line rental, which could cost upto £17.
Speeds
I get good speeds with it not dropping below 40mg download speeds ,with the lowest package you can get is 50mb dl speeds.
Customer service
Really good you can haggle really good with them if they hike up your bill if you say you are finding it hard to pay your bill, last time i got my bill from £22.50 down to £18.50.
I wont change from virgin because i use my mobile as a main phone so have no need for a land line.

I am with Virgin, but to be honest - I found that they are all much of a muchness. I have had problems with all of them.

My parents have just swapped to Sky because Talktalk who they were with previously had increased their charges. I have to say though, the Sky broadband speed in their area is shocking to the point where I think it resembles dial-up rather than broadband. It's truly shocking.

I have BT and have done so for nearly ten years. Before that I was with AOL. BT is all right but in my area I generally only get a download speed of 8-9 Mb/s. This usually serves my purpose as I'm not a gamer and the web sites appear pretty quickly as does video on the likes of YouTube and live football on BT Sport. Bristol, where I live, is supposed to be one of the cities with super fast broadband nearly everywhere but, although I live within the city boundary, I'm not on the Bristol (0117) exchange but on a small exchange just outside the city boundary which mainly covers outlying towns and villages just to the south of the city. It's a quirk of the area.

When I first had AOL, getting on for 20 years ago, it was on dial-up. If people think that the more laboured broadband areas are slow they should have tried dial-up. You could wait for a minute or more to load one page from the web. The first problem was getting a line after dialling.

Initially I was one of the small percentage of people in the UK who had an internet connection (about 25% of the population then I believe). I wonder how many people these days don't have internet connectivity via the various means that society now 'enjoys': a small percentage of the population I should imagine.

This is thing. Which is the best internet Broadband provider is so often dependent on your locality.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
