The estimable Emma Thompson is providing endless entertainment she claimed while spouting off on that boat to carry a set of wooden cutlery with in her handbag wherever she goes to help save the planet no doubt if she actually does its a designer set kept in a designer bag and includes a wooden spoon hopefully not made from a tree from a rain forest. Never mind save the planet some of these people are on a different one.

Hello Glider pilot I completely agree that we need do to do more for our environment all our household energy at home is sourced from a company that is 100% renewable ironically they were one of the targets of the protesters. It's the hypocrisy of some of the leading lights that get to me and the fact so many people's daily life are interrupted not to mention the difficulty faced by the emergency services trying to help people in need of urgent help maybe in life threatening circumstances, however I think we are fundermentally on the same page.

I'm with the Co-Operative Energy for my household energy however you pay for it when you get your winter quartely bill come through, they are not cheap compared to the other energy companies and I have thought about switching a few times when comparing with the likes of British Gas, NPower etc etc however money aside for one moment I have decided to stay with the Co-Op. However there is only so much you can do.

As for the protesters. Good on them. Biggest civil disobedience protest in history. I loved the chap interviewed the other day when asked why he was here replied that he had come down five days ago to take a look and stayed ever since.

Hopefully the message will get through but we as consumers need to do our bit and insist on change if that is what we want. The no plastic message has shown how powerful we can be and there is shed loads still to do on that. Maybe if we swapped on mass to renewable energy companies the majors will take note.

We are very ethical in our house. Certain online retailers are a serious no no. In fact we all love shopping so no online. Use yhe local farm shop and butcher. Bought some trainers from an independent sports shop rather than a chain. Recycle everything. Grow our own and compost all garden waste. But still use a car and the occasional Easyjet neo from Sof'end.

I have nothing against protest but when it causes such inconvenience to so many, with people unable to get to work, shops and businesses losing money, an already grossly understaffed police force seeing thousands of officers taken off front-line duties, including some from other parts of the country drafted into London, protest can become counter-productive and alienate some of those who might otherwise have been generally suppportive.

As for recyling, like you my wife and I recycle everything and our general rubbish bin which is potentially emptied every two weeks often doesn't see the pavement for six weeks at a time, and we've got the smallest size available. It amazes us when some households, occupied by retired couples like us, put out the largest bins every two weeks that are frequently overflowing. Our minds boggle as to where they get all the rubbish.

Unlike you, my wife and I both hate shopping but we don't use the Internet - not for any ethical reason; we just don't like buying online.

Aviation is undoubtedly a major target for the climate change 'lobby' and the next airport to the south of BHX - my local at BRS - currently has a planning application to raise its passenger limit from 10 mppa to 12 mppa. There is already a significant body against such expansion, with noise, disruption to local lives and emissions the main points of objection.

In 2011 the objectors failed in their attempts to block a major planning application at that time. The mood in the country might be changing now so it will be instructive to see how the current planning application fares. Mind you, such an application is minute when compared with the new Istanbul Airport that will be able to handle 200 mppa in the future which makes a good point in that it's no use the UK doing its bit for climate change if othere countries don't bother.

You mention the police. Blame the home secretary. No one was breaking the law.

Over 1,000 arrested and so far 53 charged. We'll have to let the courts decide if anyone broke the law.

Without the massive police presence the demonstrators could have brought any part of central London to a halt for as long as they wished.

I respect your views although the disruption was localised and did not bring central London to a halt as somw of the hyperbolic press would have you think.

If the protests trigger real action to stop sea level rise which will cause disruption globally to a few billion people, a few days inconvenience in a few parts of central London, will have been worth it. Tackling this issue requires sacrifice of our comfortable lifestyles.

The protesters seem to be drifting away slowy but no doubt they will be back in bigger numbers in June for President Trump although strangely they mostly fail to turn up when the Russian or Chinese leaders appear.

I also sympathize with their objective over climate change but not the methods used.

I concur. It's the tactics some of us seem to disagree on not the objectives. History might tell us that the protestors were correct in their actions and were part of the catalyst that led to a worldwide re-think in the approach to climate change.

If they were and I was wrong then I'd not hesitate to hold up my hands, but I won't be around to do so if that time comes.

Or stop buying Chinese goods. It has been satisfying our consumer demands which have fuelled China's carbon explosion. If we had not transferred our industrial production there our carbon emissions would have not come down.

As for the state's their problem is golf. 10% of their water consumption is to water golf courses. So much water is now used on them in Nevada and Arizona that the Colorado river now longer has enough water to reach the sea.
