Cosmos Holidays brand to be dropped by Monarch

Other trade-facing brands Avro, the seat-only broker and bed bank somewhere2stay.com, will also operate under the Monarch name as part of the move.

A new agent portal, monarchagents.co.uk, will be developed ready for launch before the end of the year.

The new branding strategy will also see all of Monarch’s holiday product aligned with its flying programme and used third party carriers phased out.

Quite a remarkable turnaround for Monarch

Monarch on track for ‘double-digit million’ profit turnaround this year

The last few paragraphs are interesting with some believing it's a hint of a sale. There has been speculation (I must stress that at this point speculation is all that it is) that Easyjet may be interested in Monarch, mainly for the extra access into LGW.

Whilst it would be very sad to see the end of Monarch, if it meant we got an Easyjet base by default would people be happy?

“There are about 86 airlines in Europe and many of them are financially unsuccessful because their cost bases are too high and they need to be restructured. Only 30 of the top 150 airlines in the world are European, which is disproportionate to the number of airlines there are in Europe.”

Swaffield anticipates more mergers and acquisitions and said Monarch would “obviously want to be a player in that activity”.

“There will be fewer players in the aviation market but those that remain will be much stronger,” he said. “It’s not necessarily going to be all about size, but cost base, brand and segmentation. If your cost base is out of control, your future is bleak.”

that only works if its an airline we don't currently have represented at the airport. Ryanair could easily take them over.

Anyway im glad they are doing well and have not ended the way of the likes of BMI Baby and other before them. Lets hope growth is on the way once that are comfortable their cost base is under control!

I would hope not. Although their boarding proceedures may be a bit haphazard, the Premium economy product is excellent.

Not BHX specific but Monarch have said that there will be new routes next year and there is also the potential to replace Sharm if needed.

Slots have been applied for at both Lisbon and Porto, I think Lisbon works out at around 6x weekly and Porto at 3x weekly. I'd take either at 3x weekly :smile:

I think BHX has a good chance of getting one of these new routes, or both. Both airports are not currently served from BHX and they do good on routes such as Rome, so Lisbon should be very similar. A320 aircraft would be perfect for these routes .

Good to see Monarch starting to move again after a couple of years of getting back on there feet.

Monarch are a loyal BHX customer and i wish them well, i think most of us have kind of forgotten about them in the middle of all the recent excitement, but they do good things for BHX and have alot of loyal customers. After all they are British which we should be proud of, most of our recent expansion is of foreign origin.

With little prospect of TAP to Lisbon, Monarch stepping up to the plate would be ideal. As a hub airport would it be naive to even think there could be a codeshare between the two airlines?

The clear advantage would be to open up South America and African routes from BHX and journey times far less than the current hubs of Amsterdam or Paris.

....but don't forget, we now have Iberia Express into BHX which opens up the One World Hub with Iberia through Madrid with opens up major connections through to South America and Africa, TAP maybe therefore have missed the boat, and does not have the support of IAG and One World to help spread the risk!!

Monarch have just announced flights from Manchester to Israel. From MAN and LTN they will be flying to both Tel Aviv and Eilat next summer.

Israel is completely unserved from BHX, so those routes are out there for the future and worth keeping an eye on...

Yeah it would be great to see a scheduled route to Israel from BHX. I was thinking of going next summer with Turkish Airlines via IST. THe flight price was very reasonable but the cost of hotels and the cost of living in Israel has put me off, very expensive.

Also alot of the hotels are near the Beach but alot of them do not have swimming pools (Unless you pay alot and go into a 4/5 star hotel) and i also forget that Tel Aviv is a big city rather than a purpose built holiday resort. Defo one to consider in the future though, looks great on photos, a mini Dubai.

4 carriers on Madrid. Now this really will end in tears for someone, there is no way BHX or any UK regional can support 4 carriers to MAD! (And before anyone says anything, no, not even MAN!)

Great news about Lisbon, Madrid I have to agree is now overkill. :crazy: Lets hope someone makes money and that all 4 don't fail and BHX is left without a link to MAD. With the addition of an extra aircraft and the probable loss of some or all flights to SSH I think there are more routes or increased frequencies are a possibility. Great to see LIS on our Destination Maps now, and at 4x weekly a decent frequency..... but what is going on with MAD???? DY 3x weekly, RYR 4x weekly, IBX 4x weekly and now MON 3x weekly, that's 14x weekly in summer 2016... Question is, what are they fighting over. not all of them can sustain that but what is the prize? someone somewhere appears to be convinced their is a market to win here!!!!

.anyone thinking of heading to MAD this summer, some great ticket prices on offer I suspect!!!

User001 these additional MAN-LIS flights mean MAN has three operators on MAN-LIS and its a much smaller city than MAD.
