There was a poster on Airliners.net saying he had been reliably informed that the ATOL licence had already been paid for, however, Monarch don't seem to have issued any statement.

Report on the dried plum that both United 747s are due to position out to Frankfurt/Hahn tomorrow with the flight plans loaded :)
Spoke with a Monarch employee about 5 minutes ago, she has been told they are still in discussions with the CAA and that further announcements are to be expected. She was, thankfully, very upbeat about it.

Just to add to this, if anyone is thinking of booking a flight using PayPal, check the airline's / tour op's T&C's. Monarch specifically exclude bookings via PayPal from their ATOL. They say that this because of PayPal's own consumer protection, but PayPal's protection excludes non-tangible items such as flight tickets and holidays.

N116UA (the PMI 747) departed to Hahn a while ago. Not sure about any of the other aircraft.

Media 'sources' report that talks with the CAA are ongoing with Monarch officials and the Greybull top brass in attendance. The reports also suggest that if a financial package cannot be agreed and extension will be sought.

Obviously without any direct quotes it is all speculation but it appears as if this is going down to the wire.

Fingers crossed for them.

United flight due into Manchester, tonight at 22.45 operating flight number UA2287 from Malaga.
This is a B747.

@Monarch has received significant further investment from s/holders. Close to announcing the largest investment in its 48-year history

CAA grants @Monarch a temporary Atol licence extension for two weeks to allow backers to raise "largest investment in its 48-year history."

Monarch reaches ATOL licence agreement and secures funding

(Luton, UK – 30 September 2016) Monarch has successfully concluded discussions with the Civil Aviation Authority (“CAA”) to extend its ATOL licence, for which it thanks the CAA. The company has also received significant further investment from shareholders and is close to announcing the largest investment in its 48-year history.

Monarch continues to fly and looks forward to welcoming customers on board.

Andrew Swaffield, Chief Executive Officer of The Monarch Group, commented:

“I am delighted that we have been able to come to an agreement with the CAA on the extension of Monarch’s ATOL licence and am excited about the additional capital coming into the group which will help us fund our future growth. I am immensely proud of the professionalism of the Monarch team.”

Congratulations to all involved...we can now put the razor blades away and instead look forward to a bright future for a great British institution :)

Last time Monarch were in this situation the announcement didn't come out until the next day so I'm glad I won't have a sleepless night to endure...

CAA says 12 day extension. I reckon that's more than enough time for them to conclude whatever talks with prospective investors and get the money pumped in.

Great news! A wonderful (and wonderfully) British airline. I hope that they can go from strength to strength and have a long and successful future.
Regarding the UAL 744 into MAN. I wonder if this is to ferry the crew back to the US? As the aircraft will have to be positioned back anyway, why not stop in at MAN to collect the crew who arrived in the last day or two? Better for UAL to utilise this flight than send a 744 across the pond empty and then have to upgrade the aircraft on the MAN schedule.

Having read many posts on the subject, it seems that along with concern for the employees of Monarch, there is also quite an affection for this airline.

[Edit] looking at FR24, I can't find any sign of UAL2287 (as of 22.25). FR24 MAN arrivals just states 'scheduled' (22.45 arrival).

So now a major PR offensive aimed at restoring some consumer confidence in the Monarch brand.

An article with a picture of a few smiling 'suits' shaking hands on the deal complete with numbers containing many noughts would be a good start. :)

From the BBC -

It seems that Greybull have negotiated a temporary extension until 12 Oct for the ATOL.
Greybull seem to have put more funds into Monarch and also seem extremely confident that major new investment will be forthcoming during that time.
The CAA must also have confidence in this, to authorise the extension.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
